2009 NFL Bye Weeks
I'm in the midst of an email fantasy football draft with some other bloggers and had a thought. An important issue in a fantasy draft is keeping in mind the bye weeks of the upcoming season and I find myself Googling this info every season. It's easy enough to find, but why not provide it for everybody here at Niners Nation?
|
Week |
Teams |
| 4 | Arizona, Atlanta, Carolina, Philadelphia |
| 5 | Chicago, Green Bay, New Orleans, San Diego |
| 6 | Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, San Francisco |
| 7 | Baltimore, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, Seattle, Tennessee |
| 8 | Cincinnati, Kansas City, New England, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington |
| 9 | Buffalo, Cleveland, Minnesota, New York Jets, Oakland, St. Louis |
| 10 | Houston, New York Giants |
At some point I'm thinking we'll have analysis of the particular bad weeks for fantasy purposes. For now, just consider this potentially useful information.

the way I avoid it is to avoid having players from the same team on my team. With that, it usually doesn’t cause a conflict in bye weeks.
I think that is the mistake people make, they draft the best players rather than drafting the players that make the most sense for their teams in terms of byes. And trading in my fantasy team, at least, has been rare. so you gotta draft right

drafting for bye weeks
Obviously the first pick is a best player available, but after that I make a notation of bye weeks and will sometimes bypass a player b/c of a bye. I won’t drop a player way down my list, but rather it works as a tiebreaker when a couple guys are looking appealing.

and if ever I get stuck with a repeating bye week, I just gotta trade or pick up a player. usually it ends up that i might have a very weak lineup for a week and i just gotta eat that loss for the week

The concept of drafting to avoid bye weeks is overrated.
I almost prefer to have just about all of my top guys on the same bye week. I’ll give up a week to have the optimum line up the other weeks.
Don't sweat it. I'm illiterate.

did you sign up for my fantasy league?
the concept of drafting to avoid bye weeks is overrated if done incorrectly.
for example, drafting 2 WR with the same bye week is far less damaging than taking 2 QBs with the same bye week (since in most leagues you only start 1 QB, and at least 2 WRs)

I did not
I play in a bunch of money leagues online and only want to prepare my draft lists for that particular set of scoring rules.

Completely disagree
Bye weeks are way overrated, I don’t see why it’s better to have your bye weeks spread out than everyone having the same bye week. I try to completely ignore them. The only possible exception for me is maybe if both of my QB’s have the same bye weeks. Even still, if I think those are the two best QB’s I can get then I go with them.
