Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

The Official Mike Vick Thread

Well everyone knows about michael vicks "conditional reinstatement" but now we just need to sit down and look at the teams that realistically might sign him. so here it goes...

49ers : well we do not have starter we can rely on and would it really hurt to sign Vick for cheap as a backup if all goes bad? i think not...

Bears: they are pretty confident with Cutler i dont see them even getting involved with vick

Bengals: Carson Palmer?? and Vick would not fit in that system. just no.

Bills: might not be a bad idea, just signed T.O. now get a big name to throw it too him....might feel up the stands

Broncos: no. they said they WILL NOT sign him

Browns: umm i dont think those guys in the DogPound would like Vick too much...haha

Buccaneers:  Nope

Cardinals: Comming off that super bowl i think they are putting everything they got in Warner

Chargers: Philip Rivers is good enough. why spend money on a backup

Cheifs: nope. cassle...

Colts: P Manning....

Cowboys: nope romo

Dolphins: possibly? throw him in that wild card and use his athleticism...i can see this one happeneing specially with an injury prown chad

Eagles:nope Donovan

Falcons: hahahaha, no.

Giants: nope eli

Jaguars: i mean. maybe? but i just can't see it happening

Jets: i think they have experimented too much with QB's, they just want a solid QB at this point

Lions: shoot, at this point anything will help them...maybe

Packers: nope arron rodgers is the future...vick would just inturupt

Panthers: Maybe because of there recent QB woes.

Patriots: too classy of an organization to even consider it

Raiders: who knows they are dumb enough to give him a 10 year 200 mil contract...haha

Rams: nopee Bulger

Ravens: I kind of can see him playing there. he fits there style and could play a good backup role

Redskins: Maybe againn. any decent quarter backs would help them

Saints: Nopee dont see it

Seahawks: Maybe hasselback is getting kinda old. what is he like 80?

Steelers: Maybe as a backup if big ben falls of his bike again....

Texans: maybe vick can be the guy to finally make them a playoff team for the first team...but they seem to cheap to gamble with there money

Titans: I think this would be a perfect fit and a good learning experience for vince young

Vikings: nope they have all there money set for farve

Vick stuff

For future reference to everybody, this would certainly qualify as a “unique angle” on a post. Even though I have the front page Vick post, this is a one way to look at something a little more broadly. I wouldn’t expect this to be a comment in the Vick post. Any questions on posting FanPosts, feel free to email me (ninersnation@gmail.com).

And I say Raiders!

Patriots are what now?

To classy… LMAO, are you serious? I guess cheating is the new classy huh?

Vick signing with the 49ers seems very plausible and could be effective too.

As the old adage goes...
If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin’.

Yeah...

It’s not like the 49ers have never cheated the Salary Cap.

Well, we're waiting....

Are we really comparing

salary cap infractions against Spygate? Really?

by Blank x2 on Jul 29, 2009 9:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Both...

… were forms of cheating. Both resulted in punishment from the league, and in the 49ers case, beyond.

Yes, Matt Hasselbeck is 80 years old.

Dang.

How many Super Bowls did he accumulate in almost 60 years of playing?

Plus Mora coached Vick in Atlanta.

by 49er16 on Jul 28, 2009 4:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Indeed.

I actually want the Seahawks to sign Vick, though of course not to play QB.

Vick-lite?

More like Vick is Wallace-lite. Wallace is a far better passer than Vick, and a comparable runner.

by Fearless Frog on Jul 29, 2009 2:32 PM PDT up reply actions

well

Vick has won a game in Lambeau, in the playoffs (against Favre!).

No, I’m not going to bring up the “we want the ball and we’re going to score” game, because Wallace wasn’t QBing the team. But I will say Seneca has won as many games in Lambeau in the playoffs as Hasselbeck (and Steve Young).

No, this doesn’t make Vick a better passer than any of the three guys above. Just saying, he was on a team that did something not many teams can brag about: Beating Favre in Green Bay in January.

by Andrew Davidson on Jul 29, 2009 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't follow.

What does Favre have to do with anything? Who cares about that old fart anyway now that he’s officially retired? lol

"Part, fools!
Put up your swords. You know not what you do."

by Fearless Frog on Jul 29, 2009 2:46 PM PDT up reply actions

once upon a time

Brett Favre was pretty tough QB to beat in Lambeau, during the playoffs. Vick was the first to guy to succeed.

That says something about the special kind of "it’ Vick had.

I think Vick has earned the right that Seneca should appreciate if someone calls him Vick-Lite is all what my point was.

by Andrew Davidson on Jul 29, 2009 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, I see.

Meh, I’m one of the few who support signing Vick, so suits me fine either way. ::Shrugs::

by Fearless Frog on Jul 29, 2009 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Eh.

As previously stated here numerous times, wins shouldn’t be attributed to a QB.

Based off of this, it looks more like the Falcons’ defense, or Favre’s poor performance (in terms of ball-security) won that game for the Falcons than Vick did.

by sfgfan on Jul 29, 2009 3:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree

that wins are not a QB stat. But Vick’s stat line isn’t impressive from the game, but watching the game proved to tell another tale.

this article, better put it in words.

Hardy Nickerson even said this about Vick:

"But the Vick Factor showed up big. The cold didn’t affect him at all, and he gave us fits. We were in scramble mode all night, and we just couldn’t handle him. It seemed like everything we threw at him, he’d make us pay."

and for the record, I’m just getting all my pro-Vick stuff out of the way, because it’s unlikely he’ll sign with the 49ers, and this is probably the last chance I’ll care to mention anything about the guy.

by Andrew Davidson on Jul 29, 2009 3:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Wins don't count for QB's

I’m sorry, this is the stupidest idea floating around the blog. If this were remotely true lets just rip Joe’s name off our own All time QB list and hope the franchise can finally lands a Dan Marino.

by bignerd on Jul 29, 2009 5:20 PM PDT up reply actions

wins

Wins require a complete team effort. The 49ers had some great defenses in the 80s that were just as important to winning as Montana. Oh and while Montana was a good QB, he certainly had a decent pair of wide receivers and running back….and some solid offensive linemen.

by David Fucillo on Jul 29, 2009 5:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Wins = QB stat

its not to say great QBs don’t win games, or aren’t responsible for winning games, its just saying that a win is not a stat.

PFR tracks a QB’s record, and no other positions, so that supports the case that it is a stat. They have Vicks record 38-28-1.

either way, its a debate that isn’t questioning great QBs winning records, it’s questioning if a QB’s team wins a game the QB is automatically given credit for the win.

I don’t really care about the debate so much. I know that Joe Montana, to me, defines what a successful QB is all about: cool. That’s not a stat either, but it doesn’t make Joe any less great.

by Andrew Davidson on Jul 29, 2009 5:41 PM PDT up reply actions

But wins aren't a QB stat.

They just aren’t. QBs are no more responsible for a win than the TE who caught a pass, the DT who provided pressure on the opposing QB into making an errant throw, the CB who held tight coverage to prevent a 1st down conversion, etc.

"Part, fools!
Put up your swords. You know not what you do."

by Fearless Frog on Jul 29, 2009 8:25 PM PDT up reply actions

that's cool

again, I’m not saying a win is a QB stat.

but I do think QBs play a magnified role on a team. The QB touches the ball on every play when the offense is on the field. He leads the team and guides the team. Football is a team sport, but the QB is a key position. While wins aren’t stats, its hard to argue that QBs aren’t an important ingredient of a team winning the game.

They wouldn’t be the highest paid, and elite ones wouldn’t be so hard to find if it were otherwise.

by Andrew Davidson on Jul 29, 2009 9:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Not a whole lot of insight in this post

But at least there’s no shortage of poll choices!

Vick should be a Viking, now that Favre retired again

These are the teams he could help win now (assuming his skills haven’t deteriorated.)

Vikings

Rams

Titans

Redskins

Panthers

Jaguars

49ers

Bills

Why?

We lost every time we saw him in town.

Only because

he was usually throwing three or four touchdowns against us.

wow

well if he is saying that then that must mean he knows who’s calling and asking. You know the more i think about it I can see him playing for the 49ers. I know they have stated that they do not want him but if you think Coach Sing wouldn’t listen to Tony Dungy advice then you are sadly mistaken. We all know Coach Sing i a christian and so is Tony Dungy so the bond that they have means even more(some might not believe that) but as a fellow believer in the same thing the one thing that we take seriously is a bond of togetherness and listening to one another just like any other believe I guess. I think Coach Sing gets excited about having Vick as an option in that backfield..I mean come on would you rather have mike vick running the wildcat or Mike Robinson? And don’t say we don’t run it because we did. I personally would rather see him on the redskins so that I can watch him play. But best guesstimate? DA RAIDERS!

So, I take it, by the poll results so far,

49ers fans are open to signing Vick?

by Fearless Frog on Jul 28, 2009 9:39 PM PDT reply actions

no way

I didn’t vote in this poll. but what’s more is I don’t even want to watch Vick at all. Seriously. I cringe at the thought of having to watch him on the opposing team, muchless on the Niners. If the Niners sign Vick, I quit.

so he killed a few dogs…big deal

Chuck Norris has only lost in one thing. 1 on 1 with Monta.

haha

I really don’t care about dogs. What I care about is not rooting for and ex-con. I will never watch any game that vick plays in, except those games against the Niners (if he signed with the rams or hawks i would throw up a little) . But like i said if he signs with the Niners then the next day I cancel my Sunday Ticket subscription and take up golf, bet that.

by jfainsf49 on Jul 29, 2009 1:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Wait, so you don't dislike Vick because he killed dogs,

but rather, because he’s a convicted criminal?

wait hold on

Point is: The Niners are the only team that I give a shit about, that means little to you and rightly so, but I’ve been rooting for them for a solid 15 years. If they hire a person fresh out of prison as their potential starting qb then I quit, I’m sticking with my guns.

by jfainsf49 on Jul 29, 2009 3:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, well, that being the case...

…sign him to a long term deal. And while we are at it, why not sign Donte Stallworth when his contract is up?

dude

surely you jest! my eyes are bleeding!

But like i said if he signs with the Niners then the next day I cancel my Sunday Ticket subscription and take up golf, bet that.

by Andrew Davidson on Jul 29, 2009 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Duhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Of course Niner Nation is OPEN to sign him. No offense to either Hill or Smith, (well…..maybe the latter!)
The fact remains that I really don’t think that the Niners staff is really SOLD on either guy. And although we did pick up Nate Davis in this years draft, he’s not ready yet. A project if you will. I see nothing wrong in haveing a few more coals in the fire to see what doesn’t pan out. Yes….Vick’s been gone for 2 years, but, he DOES have starters experience, which says a little something. I believe the hardest part for Mike would be getting back into Game Shape. The position coaches in SF can take care of the rest.

Besides, with all the sanctions Goodell has on Mike, we could sign him for a song. (And no even a top 10 hit!) 2yr league minimum at least to give him a chance to really show us what he has.You never know….maybe the 2 yr layoff has slowed his legs a little and given him more incentive to work on his passing skills. Kinda like a couple guys I knew from a while back. Do the names Young, (Steve, not Vince) and Cunningham mean anything to you? Thought so. Lastly, this country prides itself on allowing its citizens a second chance. The PARTIAL re-instatement is only a start. To really be given a second chance, a team will have to give Mike a real shot at his position. What better place than San Fran. where the chances for sliding back into trouble are a lot less and with good stand up mentors in Dungy and “MAD” Mike, there’s no telling just how far Vick can go.

see that's why your not supposed to inhale paint fumes

this i what i think could possibly explain Convicks reinstatement: this was a preemptive move by goodell to make him look like a good guy. How so? Well if he hadn’t reinstated the shmuck, lots of people would have called him a racist. However, I think the Goodell may very well know that no team will sign him because of his actions. No team will sign Convick and you can take that to the bank.

Mike Vick

Why is Singeltary so against signing Vick? I think he would help this team right away if he is in shape.

by Lannyt on Jul 29, 2009 11:53 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed.....

A 70% Mike Vick is about the same as an 80% Hill, or a 100% A. Smith. ’Nuff said.

To jfainsf49 and the rest of you haters out there......

Get off your high horses! I bet a dime to a dollar if Plax got off on his charges with suspended sentence, you’ld shout from the rooftops that we should pair him up with Crabs and Bruce TOMORROW!!!!!! Come on now! let’s cut the BS. There have been tons of guys who have brushed shoulders with the law in this laegue, who were given second and more chances, for far worse than Vick has been dealt with, and I guarantee, they helped in whipping our tail a few times in the past. And even went on to have pretty good careers. Case in point, a guy who we merced for and he helped us win a Super Bowl. Some cat named Deion or something. Several run ins with Texas Police. Everything from Public Drunkeness to possesion of controlled substances. Yet I highly doubt you wailed when we signed him in ‘94. All he did was make a decent Defensive backfied, into a Super Bowl winner. Or how about one of the NFL’s baddest men….Ray Lewis? Not only was Ray implicated and indicted for a MURDER, but, he has taken his lumps and become one of the NFL’s greaatest proponents against violence of any kind. Yet, if he were still available, I’m sure your sense of morality would decry we NOT pick him up…….right? Just sayin’……..STOP WITH THE “N.O.M.T.” stuff. It’s sickning.

BTW: “N.O.M.T” stands for “Not On My Team”, for those less informed.

Yeah, I just don’t agree at all with your take on the Patriots. I have no idea if they’ve come out and said one thing or another, but if any team in the NFL would be willing to take on someone like Vick, instill in him a win-first mentality, and be able to use him extremely dangerously, it would be them.

by InTimmyWeTrust on Jul 30, 2009 11:06 AM PDT reply actions

This.

If there is a single team in the league that can take on a “troubled” player and not ruin the team chemistry, the Patriots are it.

by sfgfan on Jul 30, 2009 11:41 AM PDT up reply actions

in response to that

see: Moss, Randy

How many TDs did score for the Patriots? And he’s the guy that said “I want to play when I feel like playing” or something along those lines.

I totally agree the Pats would consider Vick, if they thought they could make him dangerous. Imagine Vick spelling Brady for 10 plays a game? Vick’s arm could easily hit Moss downfield, and Alge Crumpler was a terror with Vick at QB, so I’d imagine Welker’s drags and digs would be well received too. Some please don’t let the Pats get Vick.
