Friendly Question from a Bears Blogger
Hello, I am a regular contributor over at WCG SBN's Chicago Bears fan blog. In addition to being an avid Bears fan I am a student at Ball State University alma mater to your rookie QB Nate Davis. I am not here to talk about how great the Bears are or trash talk up our teams' meet-up in November, but rather I would like to know about Davis' progress in camp and hear what fans think about his chances of making the team and how he's coming along. Thanks!!

What I'm hearing is that everyone likes him
He may even make the roster. Right now, Huard and Davis are even. Although some are predicting him to the PS, I"m more incline to keep him, just to save him from signing with another team.

I never thought Huard would make the team. He doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense to me. But we’ll see. I’ve been wrong before.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

I'm with on this
you’ve been wrong before.
but Huard is nothing more than camp-fodder.

Camp-fodder
I think they signed him with the intention of keeping him if they didn’t land the QB they wanted in the later rounds of the draft. Another benefit to having Huard on the roster is that if he does get cut and the 49ers suddenly need a QB from free agency again (for whatever reason), there’s a guy out there that will already have an understanding of the system (and will likely still be there).

davis
he should at least make the practice squad , but he would be vulnerable to getting picked up by another team so we may keep him on the 53

He hasn't gotten a lot of snaps
because Alex Smith and Shaun Hill are fighting for starting QB. But from what I remember he has made some nice 40 yard or so passes.
Go 49ers

davis has to make the team.
if a situation arose where the 49ers actually had to use their 3rd string QB, the season is probably shot and we might as well just put davis in to get some game experience. playing Huard would be nothing more than a waste of time. therefore, damon huard has virtually no value to the team and will not make the 53-man roster.
I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.

Huard could help the team win a pinch
Knock the guys upside (that’s fair) but the 49ers wouldn’t win a game this year with Nate Davis at QB. The team hopes to compete for a playoff spot, if Smith and Hill are hurt it would be Huard’s job to come in and not lose games for the team.

Davis
He is doing ok in camp. Hope we get to see him get some reps in preseason. Oh and WE WILL WIN the thursday night game against you guys lol.
Fans stuck in the 80's are lame. Respect the past, live in the now.

Thanks
I think he can be a good NFL QB if given time. I am curious to see how he fares in preseason action so I might check back in after the first game (when is that by the way?) I hope he makes the roster and sits back and can learn for a year or two. Good luck with your QB battle and good luck to Singletary, he’s going to be a helluva coach IMO.

Yeah Ball State
I’m also an alumni but that was all the way back in 2002.
