Allen Iverson playing football

I realize this has absolutely nothing to do with the 49ers, training camp, or anything like that.  Of course, with the talk of Michael Vick, maybe it can be considered nominally related (for comments made in this video).

Anyways, it's always interesting to consider the big what-if questions in sports.  The ones we almost never get answered are what an athlete in one sports could have done in another sport.  From what I've read and seen, Allen Iverson could have been a world-class participant in numerous sports.  Here we get some high school football highlights.  Since then folks have called him the best high school football player in Virginia state history.  Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's still interesting to watch some old school video and wonder what might have been.

He might have been a solid DB...

but from those clips alone, I couldn’t even see him starting for a D-V college team at quarterback.

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

clips

Some of the clips do seem poorly chosen. Early on they’re talking about how much of a playmaker he was at QB and they show him throwing an interception and then an incompletion.

I could be wrong

but I was under the impression that he was the one who made the interception and forced the incompletion

Plus...

He has never weighed more than 165lbs (soaking wet). Does not have the body for football at the next level.

Rec'd

He could’ve been a Reggie Bush type, I’m sure of it. Or, if you like, Charles Woodson.

needless to say, Allen made the right choice:

Defensive back, maybe.

Iverson would have chose football over basket ball if he had the choice

Unfortunately he hit a 6-5 all american linebacker with a chair at a bowling alley. All colleges backed off except for Georgetown, and they wanted him to play point guard. I am a HUGWE AI fan and I read this a while back I’m sure it can be found. Only player to be number one at QB,FS, and PG and his cross town rival played QB as well a one Aaron Brooks.

LOL

A.I. has serious issues playing team ball in basketball where he is the absolute center of focus on the team. Dudes a great athlete, but he chose the right sport.

if you think about, and I’m sure if you look at most athletes, many of them starred in multiple sports…I’m just saying. I know most of the better athletes back in high school were the ones that played multiple sports and it stands to reason; they were basically playing a sport year around.

Vick and allen can put on a show

AI go away. Doesn't have what it takes inside for betterment of the team. Ask the Pistons.

This is high school. He would have been killed by faster guys in college. Yeah I have a nice time running around guys that are nowhere near close to professionals too.
