Draft Day Regrets
I'm going to take advantage of the small rift growing between Crabtree and the fans. Most of us were there in front of their TVs when Crabtree was selected by the 49ers. The reaction of the fan base was predominately excitement for the young wide receiver. Crabtree had a terrific career for the time he was there, I don't doubt that he will be successful in the NFL. The problem of the draft (as the broken record plays) was that the 49ers didn't address positions that were thought to be team needs. With the 1st pick, I would of applauded picking either Maybin or Oher, but since Scot McCloughan was going BPA...he decided to draft our least needed (besides punter and kicker) position.
This FanPost may come across as another "49ERS DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!! >=-C" fanpost.
It's real purpose is to spark discussion of other rookies that you wanted the 49ers to take over ... so and so. If you can follow that up with an update of how he's doing in training camp.
Found this on the ESPN 49er's forum...an excerpt from twitter.com/YahooSportsNFL
More on #Oher:Fans should thank #49ers. San Francisco was set to draft him and instead took #Crabtree when he fell. They may regret it.1 minute ago from web
2nd: Teams will regret passing on Michael #Oher. He's very nimble. Watched #Suggs throw everything at him in 1on1's and get stonewalled
Suggs is pretty good, and for a rookie to do that to Suggs.. he must be pretty talented.. and the 49ers DO need a RT.. We might regret this
Did want Deon Butler over Glen Coffee too, we'll see how that plays out.
Rashad Johnson instead of trading away 2nd round pick.
I can go over every pick and say who I would of rather taken(which I probably will end up doing), but what are some other opinions?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

From the looks of things
Crabtree was an unecessary pick, IMO, and remember it’s my opinion. We needed depth at OLB, CB, OL, and S, so this pick should have been traded or used to shore up a position where we are lacking. I had gotten over it but the post brought it out!!

I was psyched to take Oher ...
… but that doesn’t make Crabtree a worse pick.
It’s way too soon to start second-guessing this pick.
I don’t know how you say that Crabtree is an uneccesary pick. Even if you really like Josh Morgan (as I do), our other top WR is in his last season.
But you know, maybe Oher never gets his brain around the complexities of an NFL playbook – that’s a legitimate concern about him. So let’s not start talking about how he solves our RT problems forever just yet.
Yeah, I agree with Ronaldinho that it's a bit premature to make decisions about this draft yet.
It can be said that the 49ers had several needs that could have been addressed in the first round – QB, WR, OT, OLB, DE, CB come to mind. The best 2 QBs were gone, and while there were a couple of players at each position left, Crabtree fit the bill of BPA as he was considered a top 5 talent, and also fit a need.
Also, I hate how the 49ers drafted basically all the players I wanted the Seahawks to draft. Crabtree, the opportunity to draft Everrette Brown, Glen Coffee, Nate Davis, Bear Pascoe… That would have been a dream draft for Seattle, in my opinion. The only exception I had was Coffee in the third, who I still think was probably a late 4th round pick at best.

First days into training camp... too early?
I believe majority fans on NN had the Pass Rusher and OT as the 49ers 2 biggest concerns. McCloughan drafts neither..hopefully he knows something fans don’t. The Crabtree pick made sense, like I said I wanted Deon Butler, but the overall draft didn’t make sense because of the previous stated reason.
Yeah, I don't actually think the 49ers had an especially good draft.
They upgraded on talent in some places but still, there’s a reason FootballOutsiders blasted their draft. I suppose drafting an OT was made a lesser priority once they decided to sign Marvel Smith, and are heavily banking on Lawson and Haralson to take big steps forward, for better or for worse.

Manny Lawson
I actually think Lawson was just as good Everette Brown at the time. Brown was proclaimed a pass rush specialist who had coverage problems. Lawson has never been given the chance to legitimately pass rush and he is decent in pass coverage. Lawson also wouldn’t have to learn the system and have the rookie growing pains that Brown may have. So looking at that the front office probably thought Lawson was just as good as Brown if not better and that two #1 draft picks for next years “strong” draft class was a better option
you've got style
but I don’t really follow the drafties so I cann’t help ya pal. Just so I’m clear though, are you saying you didn’t applaud the Crabtree pick and you would have applauded a Maybin pick? If so what do you like about Maybin?
and up rode a camargue horse named Victory, upon the magnificent beast sat a triumphant rider, that rider's name: Noodle Arm.
Once he signs a contract with the Bills his 1st step will be one of the fastest in the NFL. His heart and desire is unmatched. As much as I like to talk about Maybin here’s a Highlight reel.

Something many who didn’t follow Maybin last year now can finally see.
Crabtree at ten would have gooten us more picks
Robiskie and butler the CB would have been two possibilities and I think the team would have been better off with a trade at 10 if they didn’t get Crab. I’m not saying he won’t be good or great, I just think a team would have given up a lot to have him!

Remember
It’s very probable that the Niners did shop the 10th pick when it came up, but nobody bit or gave them what they wanted. Smart teams always look at every angle, so lamenting over a lack of a trade is a little ridiculous. The Niners did what they thought was best. They may have been wrong, but they made the choice after exhausting all of their other options. Guaranteed.
How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!
Here's an article on it

At least to me, McCloughan seems too overjoyed with the selection.
Asking price for the 10th pick, a 1st rounder for next year and their 1st rounder from this year. I don’t think any team was willing to bite at that.
