Shaun Hills secret Surgery......

Was anyone aware of Shaun Hills Injury/surgery?  Apparently Shaun Hill has been playing the past two seasons with a Index finger injury, which prevented Him from throwing spirals.  It also kept him from performing deep passes.  Im not sure when but Hill received  an operation where  bone marrow from another part in his hand was used to fix where he dislocated his finger now he can throw a deep ball.  Here's the link  http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=4411536.  Thats like music to my ears A game managing qb with zip behind his passes.....Id love to see shaun hill in a commercial boasting about his rocket laser arm....

SDoesn't matter, people will still knock him on not playing a full season

I was aware of the injury but not the surgery.

I never knew...

so exactly when did he injure it was it in practice or something?

I’ve mentioned it a few times during the offseason. I really don’t know how much of a difference it will make for a game. Not having a broken finger is obviously a huge deal, but there’s no real way of knowing just how severe or nagging the injury was while it lasted, nor how much of an effect it had while he was dealing with it.

I imagine that there will be no change as far as the basics are concerned. He still likely won’t display much of an arm, but he’ll continue to make quick reads and release the ball quickly. If his accuracy is improved, all the better, but – again – he’s been throwing high percentage passes to begin with, so the improvement is probably not going to bring much back in results. More importantly, if it helps him hold onto the ball (read: fewer fumbles), then I think that in particular will be the thing to watch.

But we’ll really have no idea until we see a lot more of him actually playing.

Whoah!!!

Why on earth haven’t I heard of this before now??? Thanks for letting us know! Wow, he was already performing at a high level, could he possibly get better? Could we possibly have a franchise QB in our ranks? I will say one thing, this explains why he hasn’t gotten more playing time.

I can't decide if this comment was made jokingly or not.

But for the sake of my remaining faith in humanity, I’m going to assume that it is.

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

I just read it from John clayton comments

Apparently it was dislocated and bent and effected him from the throwing the ball longer. He had a bone draft done this offseason and it seems sucessful. I was wondering why he tossing the longer during Practice and now I know why. Just when you though he couldn’t get any better, he does !

such high hopes for him thats good. I like to see that! I honestly could care less who starts between hill and smith as long as they manage the game but as far as the finger I don’t think it will make that big of a difference. Everyone knows that he isn’t the best at throwing the long ball but if it does help then great but i expect shaun to do what he does and thats short to mid range passes.

I always felt.....

that the difference between alex smith smith made poor passes and Hill made good reads was do to lack of confidence. It may sound weird but I feel Smith is so confident in his throw power that he feel he can get it over defenders and to receivers once he see that window no matter the distance. Hill on the other end do not have that confidence so he shys away from those smaller windows and depend more on the quick dump offs which I think is brilliant. I just hope that added zip don’t result in forced passes and gambles if not needed.

Exactly

You hit on the noggen regarding confidence. He doesn’t fully understand the defensive schemes yet and tries to hard. But he also doesn’t see the whole field due his lack of confidence which is way he throws into coverage or holds the ball to long. He needs more seasoning before he becomes the starter. He will some day.

by LASVEGASNINER on Aug 21, 2009 8:45 AM PDT reply actions

You have to blame his mishaps in that regard, on people not having confidence in him.

I understand Smith COULD be better since he throws a better ball, but he has no coolness to him in the pocket………..I’m on the Shaun Hill Bandwagon for sure!!

feelin the optimism

We can compare and contrast Alex and Shaun as much as we want. The bottom line is we can only judge a tree by its fruit. Hill consistantly performs better. Therefore, I believe Hill to be the hands-down favorite to win the starting qb position. Make some room for me on the bandwagon!!! Moreover, Hill just seems to be a likable guy. Good attitude.
