Why isn't Michael Robinson or Delaney Walker more productive?

First off, I'm bias.  I love me some Michael Robinson.  I thought he was a great draft pick after watching him run over guys in college and later in pre-season games.  It seemed like whenever he got carries (mostly preseason) defensive guys left the field bruised up.  Robinson has been one of the 49ers best special teamers, but so far his offensive claim to fame is a costly fumble.  So my Robinson question is why hasn't he improved on offense?  I really thought fullback would be his best position and that he could fit the mold of an old school versatile fullback like Tom Rathman.  He's a good receiver and a powerful runner, is he crap in pass protection?   I don't get it.  Would he have been better if converted to strong safety?  Based on special teams he seems to have the size, athleticism and open field tackling ability to play SS, has there ever been a thought of converting him?  Would it be just too hard to teach him coverage techniques?

Delaney Walker.  This guy has looked like one of the best receivers whenever he's been on the field, so why doesn't he play more?  Does he look good because he comes in as a third (slot) receiver and isn't getting covered by the defenses best corners?  With the improvement of the 49ers receiving corps will he get even less playing time?

If you have some insight into why either of these guys aren't more productive in the offense I'd like to hear your thoughts because I'm missing something
