The official Fearless Frog eats crow FanPost

You've all grown weary of my incessant snide remarks against the 49ers and heaping of praise vs. the Seahawks over the last few months. Up until the matchup today I didn't even think the 49ers would come even close to winning. As evidenced by the sound beating that Seattle took today.

Star-divide

I suppose that the cruelest irony of it all was that I didn't even get watch to game; family obligations forced me miles away from my residence - or even anywhere near a TV - for most of the day. However, you can all be assured that this was my face throughout most of the game after extremely sporadic updates I heard through the radio after sneaking out to my car on occasion:

More importantly, congratulations on the legit win. I'm already looking forward to the next match-up.

And of course, feel free to rail away at me or the Seahawks in the comments and kiss Mike Singletary's shiny Hall of Fame ass some more and remind me that Seattle's staff has Greg 'nancy pants' Knapp.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

looked oh so wonderful today, we’re lucky to have him, and we’re lucky Seattle players sometimes forget how to tackle him. That’s two 200 yard games vs. Seattle, I hope he’s healthy for the rematch (same for Hasselbeck as well).

That's why you shouldn't talk crap BEFORE the game

My most important “superstition” is that talking crap prematurely eventually gets back to you.

I never talk to anyone during game days.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Sep 20, 2009 9:34 PM PDT reply actions

Well, considering there were about 4 of us...

who came over and talked, and all four have been gracious in defeat, I’d say it is no different than those stupid bets the mayors of cities make for the Super Bowl.

But, we were “invited” over, and if you look at the original thread it was very deep with Niner smack aimed at us before we engaged and returned fire. Regardless, none of OUR (as fans) smack talk has any bearing on things. I’d like to believe in karma in the sports world, but considering we’ve lost our basketball team the same year the Stealers won their 6th championship, I’d say there is little to karma and justice in sports. It just is, in that moment in time, what it is.

Just a superstition (to me at least)

I remember a certain baseball game where I called my friend to talk smack when my team was up only to see them lose the game.

It also happened last year in the NBA finals too…..after those two debacles I’ve decided to keep my mouth shut till after the game is over

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Sep 20, 2009 10:44 PM PDT up reply actions

The NBA no longer exists. Dead to me completely.

But David Stern can die a long painful death to a debilitating cancer, and I would feel there IS karma in the sports world/universe, and wrongs have been righted.

Yep. That strongly. Die, David Stern, Die. Slowly and painfully!!!

But yeah, I hear you on superstition… hard not to believe in it on some levels…

Check myself, why? Because I made a suggestion and a hawk fan didn’t like it? At the time of my comment I didn’t see his sig or avatar, so I don’t understand why you’re speaking on it at all. How about the comment hudd07 made about Hass holding his back, no one called that classless. I do not care how a sea hawk fan feels about a post I make, especially when they’re bent out of shape about NOTHING. Please reread the conversation maybe you’re mistaken, the classless comment was made because they were rubbed the wrong way in another post and I could care less, but if you want to play Nanny to these babies go ahead, I for one do not believe in supersticions, if I did the ranting prior to the game would have been posted whether fun or not. let me send you some money for diapers and pacifiers. AKA.............Optimist Prime

by rlott#42 on Sep 21, 2009 11:26 PM PDT up reply actions

The issue here is..

Winning with Class, and losing with class.

So far, just on this alone, Hawk fan wins between youse two.

I don’t care about your beefs with Hawk fans. That’s on you. But my bet is between Frog and I, and you have nothing to do with it. In fact, Frog was cool enough to help make this a fun week throwing the smack bone for youse all to chew on, and he manned up, and other Hawk fans did as well. So far, you’re the one with the problem, and I don’t have one with Frog or Hawk fan, no matter what they posted. If you noticed, I’m not even gloating over the win. I’ve read Frog’s vitriolic takes on the 49ers, and it doesn’t matter. If Frog hadn’t manned up, then I would call him out on it. But he did, and so did other Hawk fans. What more do you want? You got a win, they came in here and manned up, and are taking it with class. SEA hasn’t been in the Division long enough for me to have a lot of bitterness as well. I’ve taken on Ram fan during the Martz era when they owned us, and I grew up during a time when the Rams used to beat the 49ers all the time. I’ve jawed the DAL fans too. The point of this was to really create a fun rivalry that brings us all together as fans of the NFCW teams we represent, as fans. Neither Frog nor I determine an outcome of a game. Nobody does except the players, coaches, and FO’s and such. When it works in our favor, great. I’ve been on the side where Frog is today many times wearing sigs and avs. Too many times really to the point where the opposing fan didn’t even care because it was a win for them no matter what, and they were sad to see the 49ers become a mess of a team. Even they missed when they were a good team. Now all of the sudden we have some hope, and this win was sweet, but there are 14 more games to go, and if the 49ers win the Division, then we as fans can finally have something to say.

Until then, win with class. That’s the 49er way. You can lose with dignity too. I as a fan have many times lately. If you still want to throw more fires into the log, then do it in the original thread, and call them out for posts there.

Well, we're waiting....

by drummer on Sep 21, 2009 11:58 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Obviously you didn't read the conversation, I didn't call out anyone

Making the suggestion of Gore as the avatar is not at all classless. I know this was between you and FF, and you comenting on it is making it seem more than what it actually was. I didn’t call anyone out in this conversation, ninja socks called me out on this conversation and I still didn’t, class had nothing to do with the suggestion and that’s all I’m saying. I have been a niner fan my whole football watching life. I have a circle of friends that like the pats, Cowboys, Steelers, Rams, Bills, Bears, Chiefs (yeah they are alive) and Packer backers. We gloat in wins and we take it in losses and I have been the butt of jokes for a long time. If they can dish it they should be able to take it. It’s football, classless would be celebrating injury, and even mentioning the hit would be classless, reread this entire thread, there is not one post that I remotely appear classless. If you think I did go to that post and reply. I will review my actions and adjust accordingly. You are actually being ridiculous, if that’s the REAL concern. So if my class offends you take it to the thread, if any, where it happened, if you think it happened here that’s too damn bad, I said nothing classless. As far as which thread is concerned people had a problem in that other post and I responded there. Again why no mention of the classless comment about Hasselbecks injury in the SAME conversation? CHECK YOURSELF DRUMMER, RLOTT#42 DID NOT TYPE ANYTHING CLASSLESS!!!!!

Up until the matchup today I didn’t even think the 49ers would come even close to winning.

Why not? Apparently you don’t follow the NFL too well. If you did you’d know that most of these games are ‘up in the air,’ especially early in the season.

One minute the Bears are being laughed at for their showing in GB, the next minute they’re beating the SB Champs.

One minute the hapless Benglas lose to Denver on an impossible play, the next minute they travel to Lambeau and beat the Packers, a team many analysts picked to reach the Super Bowl.

That’s how it goes in the NFL.

Wait

Two gracious Seahawks fans? Am I alive? I really respect that. I’ve always been a gracious loser. When I went to Arizona State I lived in the dorms with jackass Vikings, Seahawks, Cardinals, and Broncos fans. It was the 2006 season so we it was the year we beat all those teams (except the Cardinals I believe), so that was sweet retribution.

But now? Well I’m stoked on the win and I feel bad for Seattle. The injury situation just keeps getting worse. I can’t say we haven’t been there as Niners fans, but it sucks for them nonetheless.

Great game, I think the division is stronger this year. I was glad AZ beat Jacksonville. I hope the NFC West starts beating people outside the division to get some respect. Right now no one gives a shit about any of the teams and it pisses me off.

So I bet there are a bunch of UW alumni who grew up down here (I have two very good friends who also are Niner fans, grew up down here, and went to UW, and my brother also went to UW for grad school). On the flip side there are probably a bunch of Cal grads who grew up in Seattle (my gf for example went to Cal and is from Olympia)

iPhone

Don’t want to take it too far off topic, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that AT&T’s exclusivity deal with Apple ends soon, meaning the public may see iPhones outside of AT&T soon. Not sure if I remember right or if I dreamed it, but it’s what I seem to remember.

For the most part, I seem to get 3G on my current phone (even though I don’t use it) all around the Bay. I have to admit, though, that I don’t venture into the Berkeley/Oakland Hills all that often.

by sfgfan on Sep 23, 2009 9:45 AM PDT up reply actions

I should have waited

but it was really time for a new phone.

I’ve found that typically in the flats or in SF I get 3G pretty consistently – but even then I feel like the coverage isn’t as good as verizon’s was – especially inside buildings and stuff like that. I was disappointed with how badly it worked at Candlestick on Sunday – probably a function of the thousands of people all jamming the network – but still I could barely even check scores from the other games.

It is a win-win..

People like yourself were able to jaw with Hawk fans here at your own board without the threat of getting banned, and say, if you were on the losing end with a sig and av bet (Frog suggested the av as a condition prior to the game and pic), you wouldn’t have to wear it over there like Frog has here.

The other win-win was that it was entertaining, and fun to finally interact with fans who don’t myopically focus on one team. I can equally disagree with 49er fans here like I would a fan of an opposing team. Frog doesn’t bother me as much as a myopic Homer who hates to hear what they don’t like to hear, even if there is truth behind it. Or, try to obfuscate facts to suit their opinions.

The point you miss is that Frog came in strong, Hawk fans followed suit, and made this week fun. I somehow doubt you would want to be in Frog’s shoes, over at Field Gulls, because I doubt you have the character to pull it off. Frog and others manned up, and that seems to be enough for a lot of people here. If it’s not good enough for you, then all I say to say is this:

Eric Berry anyone?

by rlott#42 on Sep 29, 2009 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know how I got labeled "hater" on that one...

I was asking a couple reasonable questions.

The information I’ve come across has been that he hasn’t put it together prior to this year, and very little of it blamed anyone else (QB/OC, etc) while most of it blamed his inflated ego, lack of adjustment to the NFL game, and general douchebaggery— which your coach CALLED HIM OUT ON last year.

Or am I incorrect here, and his prior struggles were all the fault of others?

And as far as the “better QB/Better OC/Better offense as a whole” argument, look directly north to Seattle and see what Carlson did as a rookie with a banged up offense, a very limited playbook and a rotation of injured/ineffective QB’s last year. I’m just saying individual performance is individual performance, not that our guy is way better or anything like that. I’m simply saying Carlson has been a rousing success while Vernon has been a disappointment, overall, to date.

Again, I’m not even a “hater” I just think he needs to prove for more than 3 games that he has humbled himself and become a better player, figuring out how to be a competitor at least close to equal to his incredible athleticism. But if he has “figured it out” on multiple levels, he is a major force to be reckoned with.

by Tyler Jorgensen on Sep 30, 2009 9:38 AM PDT up reply actions

I guess we'll wait.

Carlson played with a banged up team, but he was in Holmgrem’s offensive system. The TE downfield was apart of that. Davis was used on two yard outs and 3 yd turnbacks, and that’s just idiotic, to have a TE as athletic as he and not use him downfield. Wallace is a better QB than Smith, Smith is poo, and we don’t need to discuss JTO.

I'm looking at an NFL Re-cutter thing right now that's clearly showing DeMarcus Ware toss aside Davis effortlessly and

sacking Shaun Hill while Joe Staley is staring at both of them, no doubt in awe of the domination he just witnessed.

I said at the time which was J Porter

Regardless I am content with Davis, he is on the team I root for not yours. I don’t need tp justify the pick to you. You said you’d take Mare over Nedney but your kicker blew the game.

He said he would take Mare over Nedney???

WTF?

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

I don't recall that, but in any case, Mare was far better than Nedney in 2008.

I don't think you have seen the Joe Nedney video

Can someone provide the link?

Mare was tied for second in the league in touchbacks, behind only Sebastian Janikowski.

But he was more accurate than Janikowski, connecting on 24 of 27 field goals attempted, if I’m not mistaken.

Week 3 of the 2009 season

I’m sure you would have rather had Nedney that game….

No.

He gave us field position with kickoffs all game and shot 4 field goals. The fact that he missed 2 was irrelevant when we missed so many other opportunities to score.

Mare didn't blow the game.

The defense choked like Michael Vick’s dogs at the end, and the offense didn’t do much when they got past midfield.

Frog, dude.

Where have you been, man? In all sincerity, I hope that game didn’t put a hamper on your willingness to post over here. Smack-talk aside, your views always provided a welcome (and much-needed) balance to the conversations over here.

Between the early success and your recent absence, the voice of reason has been notably quiet as of late.

Oh, and put in a request over at Field Gulls for a ban lift! ^_^; I have intelligent things to say, but I just didn’t foresee getting the boot for one well-intentioned post in a gameday thread. =(

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.
