San Francisco 49ers vs. Minnesota Vikings Open Thread
San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings, Sep 27, 2009 10:00 AM PDT
Date: September 27, 2009
Time: 10:00pm PST
Location: Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN
Records: 49ers (2-0) Vikings (2-0)
Bodoglife.com Spread: Vikings -7; Over/Under 39; Money Line: 49ers +245, Vikings -290 - Even if I was picking against the 49ers I'd still take them to cover. I think it'll be a defensive battle. So much so that I'd probably even take the under, even at 39.
Weather: Room Temperature with a little AC
TV Broadcast: FOX - Sam Rosen, Tim Ryan
Radio: 107.7 The Bone, 680/1050 KNBR - Ted Robinson, Gary Plummer, Rod Brooks
Spanish Radio: KIQI 1010-AM, KATD 990-AM - Mathias Godinez, Melvin Moran, Marcos Gutierrez
Vikings Coverage: Daily Norseman
Week 3 Prediction Contest: If you missed out on the morning games, you can still make predictions for tonight and tomorrow.
Injuries
49ers: Questionable - LB Marques Harris (toe); Probable - G David Baas (ankle), LB Ahmad Brooks (knee), RB Glen Coffee (hip), RB Frank Gore (ankle)
Vikings: Out - LB Erin Henderson (calf), Questionable - WR Percy Harvin (illness), LB E.J. Henderson (shoulder); Probable - RB Adrian Peterson (back), TE Jim Kleinsasser (hand), S Madieu Williams (shoulder)
Inactives
49ers: CB Marcus Hudson, S Curtis Taylor, LB Marques Harris, C Cody Wallace, WR Brandon Jones, WR Jason Hill and DE Ricky Jean-Francois
Vikings: WR Jaymar Johnson, CB Asher Allen, S Husain Abdullah, LB Erin Henderson, C Kory Lichtensteiger, DT Jimmy Kennedy, DE Jayme Mitchell, and QB Sage Rosenfels
49ers Stat of the Day: Today the 49ers can start a season 3-0 for the first time since 1998. Also, check out what Florida Danny had to say earlier today about the 49ers 2-0 start.
While the first two wins were certainly huge for the 49ers, today's battle in the Metrodome is the highest profile game to date for the 49ers. The two teams are meeting in the only matchup of 2-0 squads this week and as previously mentioned, the winner will leave week 3 with some serious buzz. As the stat of the day shows, the 49ers could roll to 3-0 for the first time in 11 years. Minnesota is playing their home opener and I'd imagine the crowd will be fired up for Favre's first home game. I would not expect a shoot-out today as both defenses will be keying on the run. So, it could very well come down to who can make more plays: Shaun Hill or Brett Favre. We'll find out soon if that's a good or bad thing.
GO NINERS!

ESPN's NFL Countdown
Just did a rehash story of the “the Catch” – the most exciting thing about the catch?
It was one of the first chances for a young Chris Berman to announce an important game. Here, look at this spot on the sidelines – that’s where Chris Berman was standing. Here, look at this old footage – that’s a young Chris Berman starting his epic historical career. Some people call this “the Catch” – ESPN remembers this moment for “the Standup” – the emergence of one of their favorite sports announcers.
Berman was there! Holy (site decorum) that’s so (site decorum) amazing. Look at how (site decorum) awesome Chris Berman was!!!
(I finally changed the channel. Leave it to ESPN to eff up one of my favorite football stories.)

that's the problem with morning games
I drink coffee instead of beer, but I drink it reflexively as if I were drinking beer. A full pot later I’ve way too much caffeine by the end of the game.

There’s been a lot of talk about him experimenting with Rugby style kicks to get the bounce he wants. A ball dropping after 25 yards and rolling just as long inside the 20…that would be a great weapon for a punter.

not really
because of the shape of the football. bounces will usually be erratic. you can increase your chances of a good bounce with line drive kicks, but it impossible to always get the bounce you want

the refs are impartial and deserve respect
no wait, they would call offsides if our d-line even thought about crossing before the snap.

The LB blitzing up the middle was offsides on the pass to Norris and the opening sack of he game? I see Sing is yelling at the ref about it. Pretty easy to see.

For those who like to blame Hill
His guys have dropped two and he’s been pressured quickly a couple other times. He can’t throw and catch it.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Inaccuracy can create drops.
Remember Alex Smith’s astronomical WR drop rate? If you throw behind guys, at their feet and over their heads…then they’re going to end up dropping passes.
My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.
D's going to really wear out at this rate
"Those boos really motivate me to make something happen." - Bonds
Not Hill's fault
look at the line push at the snap…. Min is in our backfield virtually everyplay. Snyder, Baas and even Staley are getting worked.
This would be why we like to run more than throw on the road
So why isn’t Raye sticking with the run until we get 1 first down?
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
