I'm still pissed...
OK..its been several hours after the game and I have not watched one damn additional highlight from the day. I know only week 3, but seeing all the specials this week on ESPN, etc. on how the 49ers franchise was back made this one really hurt. So yes I know we rode our D on the first 2 wins and hard to go against leaving it all up to the D at the end...but 3rd and 6 and not even trying to get it? I mean with Brett Favre as the opposing QB, that was just asking for it...and now...like probably many other Niner fans I have to avoid watching any football news all week because there will be non stop Bret t Favre is great BS with this miraculous catch in the Vikings opener. i think that is what makes it hurt even more that we let one of the most annoying non team guys in sports beat us and even more horrible will be all the Inside the NFL type review features to be shown this week on what a gamer Favre can be with the game one the line..disgusting!. Not to mention the Vikings "late' 1st round pick Percy Harvin making an impact on the game and I'm not even going to go there about our "early" 1st round pick.. So special teams for special teams in the blocked FG / TD for Niners to the return by Harvin...but I just can't help but think that was way too much time to just give someone like Favre in not even trying to get a 1st down on 3rd and 6 It wasn't like it was 3rd and 12, just 6 yards and then hand it to Favre for a chance at some miraculous crap.. Is it too much to even try for a little screen or 5 yard slant to Vernon. I know getting to the playoffs will alleviate this game, but just seems like NFL teams that go all the way towards the playoffs at the end of the year don't have wacky let down type of losses earlier in the year like this one. Loving the D with Wilis and the strong secondary, etc..but such a major lack of faith to even try for 6 yards is scary. And another thing, as it was obviously a major point of concern all preseason on the message boards...pass rush!!! I don't know how the secondary even held up the way they did with all the time Favre had back there. Only week 2, but it's hard not to be real let down on so many levels with this week 3 disaster. Wish week 4 game was tomorrow to get this bad taste out ASAP.

Why so serious?
because seriously, I doubt anyone thinks the Niners are pushovers currently.

49ers make
another rookie have a breakout game like reggie bush!
How many times has Joe Montana thrown an interception in a super bowl?

Who was the last breakout addition on offense?
Frank Gore, and then who? Niners need playmakers, not free agents they need new blood. Crabtree has set us back a draft and I hope the NINERS BRASSS see they need playmakers on Offense and Defense
BKA optimist prime- Got the Semi runnin' on 49er koolaid!!
Blasphemous beings, the NINERS will never forget!!

This just burns me too
Nice post! I don’t know how we let that one get away and i with you, no espn, nfl network nfl replay whatever, I don’t want to watch Mickey Mouse channel make bragg how Brett Fart is making a comeback story. Personally, i hope we see them again and this time we will put a hurt on the Vikings.
Comeon Crabtree, nows the time to show this franchise what your made of and so far nothing.

It felt like I got socked in my stomach.
Thank you for a great article I’m the only Niner fan I know and that made me feel much better next week when we destroy the Lambs can’t come quick enough why why would they not try a pass on 3rd oh well it hurts so bad I can’t even watch highlights if I hear his name one more time I’ll start pulling my hair out honestly. That jerk ripped my heart out threw it and scored the game winner with it. Singletary is a God. Is anyone in the HOF as a player and coach?

Just another remider why I've hated that
sad sack of $#!+ for all of these years! I’m with you on that 3rd down, shoulda been a play action pass into the flat or something. Also, at the time of Dre Bly’s broken up pass on 4th down to get the ball back, I had this horrible feeling that by him not picking it off and taking it to the house that we were still vulnerable.
We gotta turn this feeling on its head tho, and look at the bright side (yes, there is a bright side). None of the so called ‘experts’ were really picking us to win, and short of them all being wrong (damn it!) I don’t think anyone now is sleeping on us. Also, given the way coach Sing was talking about it (in terms of getting a taste, chewing on ‘it’ and swallowing this loss) I think we’ll be ready to go the rest of the way.
Frankly, I’m equally upset that Gore is out again; he is the caboose.

I am too, brother, I am too
and will be for the rest of the season … until we play them again in the playoffs
I seriously want to see some Vikings’ blood next time.

Prevent Defense
Anyone else yelling at the T.V. saying no, no, no, please not the Prevent Defense. I have always said that the Prevent Defense only prevents your own team from winning! Why change the style of your defense for the series. I hate to say it, but our defense and the play calling for that last series lost us that game. Oh well, let’s hope they feed off the lose, and not collapse from it.

playcalling
the play calling needs work, im fine with the prevent, im not fine with the offensive playcalling, yes mr singletary i understand u want to run it up the middle and hit em in the mouth and all that, but do you not understand that if u dont mix it up with an outside run now and then that you will get no where up the middle and be stuck with a beat up gore the rest of the season, i wanted to see a couple more outside runs specially with coffe. yes running on 3rd down when they could of ran a screen or soemthing short which hill is good at, just make sure u make the catch and boom clock keeps going, hell leave them with a timeout, 1 timeout isnt going to make that big of a diff.
overall though we should all be happy with these niners, and hopefully our offense can mix up the runs a bit more, i really think that would make a big diff.

Proud of our players
They went out there and almost won the game on pure grit. It was a Singletary type of Smash mouth Game.
But where I’m dissappointed is with Raye Play calling. How many times does it take to understand that if it’s not working, you try something else. You cann’t put a square peg in a round hole. A little something different can work as well than straight down the middle. We’re to predictable.

Does one Mike still listen to the other Mike?
I know that Ditka’s first inclination was to play smash mouth and Mike was fed at the hands of Ditka to start his career and Ditka realized that letting the QB open it up is good. I just don’t think, if they are still in touch and I think I remember reading that they are and still have tons of respect for each other that Ditka wouldn’t say to him “Mike, ya gotta be willing to open it up some man!” SO I think it’s solely on Raye and Ditka might say “Let your Coordinator coordinate”
Just thking out loud, sorry

Big block of text is big block of text.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

A Viking perspective
…pass rush!!! I don’t know how the secondary even held up the way they did with all the time Favre had back there.
Just to put some perspective on the issue, we over at Daily Northsman tend to disagree with you on this topic. We are all complaining about how little time Favre had to throw and how great your pass rush was. We’re worried sick that if we see pass rushes like that all season, Favre will be hurt and out in no time. I don’t know if it helps you feel any better, but I just wanted to offer a view from the other side.

and...
…not to mention, your D-line did a phenomonal job against the run. Don’t worry ‘9er fans. You’ve got a playoff caliber team here. You will most likely run away with your division.

We're still hurting from last season
We couldn’t get to the QB at all…..
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Why does everyone think we can't get to the QB?
Did you not see Favre on his back all the time?
Just because we aren’t getting sacks doesn’t mean we aren’t getting pressure on the QB.

Then why are we "still hurting" from it?
That made me think just the same as ‘dew that you were saying that it’s the same thing this season. Pressure is as good and sometimes better psychologically than a sack. We are doing quite well on pressuring, even Franklin had Favre going “Sh** it’s baby Sapp!”
