Info?

I’ll move this to the front page. Can you add a comment with what the so-called “major announcement” is now that we’re probably into the interview?

Yes No Problem

It’s not as big of a deal as KNBR was making it out to be. But Jerry Rice will be playing in the Nationwide pro golf association and will have one of the tournaments named after him “The Jerry Rice 127 classic” Apparently Rice who has been playing golf since 1987 will be attempting to go pro.

WTF??..

Rice on the Nationwide tour? I saw him on TV playing that Tahoe tourney (which I think Romo won), and he didn’t look that bad. Had a decent short game for a celebrity. But wow, the Nationwide has a lot of good players, even some that have won on the regular tour but have struggled in the past year or so.

Good for Jerry.

Well, we're waiting....

I Won't

question anything Jerry Rice attempts to do. Weather it was being the best receiver in football or venturing into the private sector Jerry Rice has succeeded in everything he has attempted to do. Sorry Tiger Woods you have just been replaced as my favorite golfer.

From the PGA\Nationwide site...

http://www.pgatour.com/2009/tournaments/h099/09/29/rice/index.html

Looks to me like he is just hosting one event on the tour, not “Officially” joining it.

If he plays the Hope next year, I might go check him out.

Well, we're waiting....

He Did Say

That he is going to attempt to play in the nationwide and want’s to see how it goes following that initial tour event. “I have been playing golf since 1987 and really think that i can take my game to the next level” That has the feeling of someone who has spent some time preparing and practicing to become an official Nationwide member. Now he is going to have to have a sponsor in this first event and if i am not mistaken will have to finish somewhere in order to earn his card. I could be wrong regarding that though

At 46 years old...

Though in great shape, that’s tough. Down where I live, they hold a Q school at some hard courses here, like the Pete Dye TPC Stadium course which the Pro’s hate. I think the first 30 qualify for the regular Tour, and the second 25 qualify for the Nationwide.

Who knows? One thing that could happen is that he joins the Champions tour years from now. John Brodie didn’t do too bad on that tour, even winning one or two IIRC, before he got ill.

Well, we're waiting....

Thanks

I wasn’t sure what he had to do in order to earn the card. But i am right with you on this. It is going to be incredibly difficult for him to qualify for either, but he has been playing religiously for 22 years now and we all know practice makes perfect. I for one started playing when i was 15 and am now able to play a full 18 in Indian Valley with a very small handicap.

Good for him

I had a HECK of a time listening on their website....

And Here I Thought He Would Be

Announcing a Crabtree signing LOL. Or maybe even him suiting up for the Niners.

I have to admit...

I kind of was too even though it wouldn’t really have made sense.

Yeah

As they were “marketing” a major Rice announcement i was thinking a bunch of things and didn’t realize it was a Rice “plug” but this is still some good stuff. I wouldn’t mind watching Rice do what he does on the green.

I did think

that he was going to unretire from football.

I too,

was certain it was going to be 80 was suiting up again or had agreed to be a mentor to the now signed Crabtree. I guess this news comes in a close 22nd though.

Not much football talk,

But I did catch his assessment of the Niners so far this year and thoughts on last weeks game. He things ( rightfully so) that the Offense should have found a way to that one last 1st down to put it away.

I Really Wanted Him To

Break loose on Crabtree as we all know he isn’t a big fan of what Crab’s is doing right now. One thing i know about Rice is that he is outspoken when it comes to controversial issues around the league

What a let down.

I thought he would announce a Tree signing and/or him joining the coaching staff as the WR coach. Oh well.

by Riceball on Sep 29, 2009 3:16 PM PDT reply actions

Yep

That’s what I was thinking too.

by GeeMunster on Sep 29, 2009 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I was hoping

he would announce that he was Crabtree’s new agent.

Did anyone else hear this podcast?

Very in depth. Maiocco’s there too in the discussion.

I've seen Jerry swing it

He likes to hit driver off the deck. He’s got a nice swing… he could make it as a pro if he puts in the hours.
