Nate Davis? Yea!
This is somewhat of a follow up to my other post, Nate Davis?... Yes, Really. In that I was talking about how much I liked Nate Davis and we voted on if we wanted to see him get some first team snaps. Well for 354 people, the day has come. Now we delve into the subject of what Singletary is pondering with this move, or if its as benign as he wants it to appear.
What did interest me is the play of Nate Davis. It makes Alex Smith look like a fool. He rolls out, well he reads well, he still gets the accuracy off with the power. Of course the critics here will start yelling "IT WAS AGAINST THE 3rd TEAM!" and that is true. He also only ran a handful of plays, but he executed them well and showed boundless potential.
Now Shaun Hill wanted to get more snaps in, but Sing is limiting him to somewhere around 12, and Alex has a hurt digit so Sing is holding him out all together. What I am asking though, is this Sings plan to really see what Nate can do? Alex's injury is almost nothing, and Shaun I'm sure wouldn't mind a few more snaps to warm up for the season.
But we want Nate! (at least I do). I want some first team snaps to judge this guys potential and were finally going to get it. Nate Davis playing a full game, we can see how he holds up in a longer situation, how he plays with more snaps, how he plays against starters and so forth. I typically despise mancrushes like I've seen people have with Bear Pascoe and Thomas Clayton. But I may have one with Nate Davis. But I think Sing has one too, and I think he wants to get Nate in early enough to see if he is all he seems to be.
Here's to not having to use a 1st rounder on a QB next year.

yea i think i agree
people don’t realize before his learning disability was announced he was projected to go in the first round. So if he is figured to be up there with josh freeman, sanchez and stafford. why is everyone acting like we should limit him while the others have been thrown in the fire and been playing fine thus far???
you tell me another QB outside of those four that has impressed anyone???
sanchez is going to get the start
stafford, they don’t want to rush but could possibly start
josh freeman, they have said is the best QB the bucs have but don’t want to rush him, so leftwich will start.
so you kind of have to stop with this whole pity party because the round he was drafted in, let me ask this… no learning disability (which he has shows no signs of hurting his game) do you think he would have dropped to the third round?
iono i am ok with him sitting the year or even the first half of the season but if hill is playing bad and we are not winning, than it wouldn’t hurt davis to give him a couple starts if things go bad, then go back to hill and let the kid re-adjust.
we are not going to have another smith situation on our hands. he was thrown in if he was ready or not and HAD to start every game and was demanded to win, we are not in that situation we have a QB that can start and win games in hill, davis is just the best QB on our roster so far so people want to see what his limit really is.

I agree especially in the current Offensive scheme
Nate hands the ball off to Gore.
Nate hands the ball off to Coffee.
Nate hands the ball off to Sheets.
Hey whaddya know? Spurlock is all alone in the secondary. Davis to Spurlock…TD.
Not exactly rocket science. This ain’t Bill Walsh’s West Coast Offense.
Give Hill a chance but ditto for Nate if Hill disappoints in the first 4 games.

I don't think our coach is dumb enough to put it ALL on the QB to win
So this is a great situation for all of our QB’s to be in. Frankly I don’t think it’s him being a rookie but a matter of how much of the playbook he was exposed to in the offseason. I am also confident in Hill being the QB of choice, I don’t think he himself has had enough reps with the first team, so I’m actually against Hill not playing more than 12 snaps and not the first half. Our offense has not gelled at all, not even Gore should be held out the entire game. I know its preseason game 4 and starters don’t usually play but our offense hasn’t shown any continuity. It’s good to get the kid reps, but are you aware that he wasn’t exposed to much of the playbook due to the Smith Hill competition? Well that is the case, so I’m in between on him gettting his chance, but I also want to add that other players like Sheets and McKillops need reps with teh first team O. I would personally like to see the two starting 11’s play the first half!!

Hmm..
In that last sentence when you say " Here’s to not having to use a 1st rounder on a qb next year" was that you saying cheers with your cup of cool-aid, because I’m right with you man, cheers!
Nate Davis is the sugar to the watered down cool-aid I’ve had to drink the past couple of years. So here’s to the re-uprising of the 49ers. Go get em Nate. Ok, maybe i put too much sugar in my cool-aid =D

nate davis
nate4s niner nick name should be “rocket man davis” because he throws rockets from the pocket. and from every where on the field. smith is a disappointment, nate is the future qb for our team.

Nate The Great
As Ball State alum and fan I am so excited that things are going well for Nate in San Francisco. This guy is the real deal. He will continue to amaze you with his arm and playmaking ability. Seems as if he fits the exactly the mold that Sing is looking for in a QB.

Nate's performing
as well as I knew he would in the NFL after having the privilege of watching him for three years at Ball State. I would say in another year or two he’ll be ready to start and will eventually be a top second-tier QB in the NFL.

Love this guy
If Sean Hill can’t learn how to get the ball down field this year then start Davis. That’s right, at the end of this year.
We do not risk anything by putting him in there. That guy is stone cold on the football field, he’s a straight baller(and I’ve never used the term so appropriately).
He leads the two minute drill as calm as he would be playing in the schoolyard.
Smith does not have a bad arm, but Nate has a much more natural throwing motion. Nate will be the talk of next years training camp and Smith will most likely be traded. At this point I have to agree with Martz in saying Smith’s only chance is with another team.

By the way as a question to everyone
Do you think Davis’ play in the preseason will make it more likely for us to trade a 1st round pick to improve our team this year?
by goatfather on Sep 6, 2009 7:34 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why trade them?
We need to use both of them…just not on QBs.
My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

nate better than stafford?
some guy on nfl.com said nate is better than stafford and had a better preseason than him as well. i agree with the 2nd part, but i haven’t seen stafford enough to decide who’s better. any thoughts anyone?

From a physical "tools" standpoint
Stafford is much better.
He’s got a stronger arm and can fit the football into tighter spaces.
But after he gets raped (sacked) like 50 times this season he may turn into Alex Smith.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.
