Niners on the radio (in the UK)
I know there's at least a few 49ers fans in the UK who use this site, because a couple of others, aside from me, responded when Fooch built his map recently of where we all live.
I also imagine there are others who lurk, viewing the site but not posting. For all of you, just a quick heads-up that our season opener on Sunday will be live on BBC radio.
BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra (which is only available on DAB radios or through your Sky TV box) will be broadcasting an NFL show every Sunday night this season, and the game they have chosen for the first week is 49ers@AZ.
Our game is not on Sky on Sunday - in fact we're not mentioned in Sky's list for the first four weeks of the regular season - so you can turn the radio on instead if you want commentary, unless you subscribe to NFL Gamepass in which case you can watch all of the Niners games anyway.
Just to wrap this up into one, single place where you can find out what's on and where, Sky are doing one game at 6pm (UK time) and another at 9pm every Sunday, plus any games on random days (like tomorrow's opener between the Titans and the Steelers and also the Thur, Sat games later in the season) and Total Access is continuing (sadly a day behind the States). But we have lost the red button option, I believe, which makes it less likely that we'll be able to catch Niners games.
Sky are not doing the late Sunday games (the ones that kick-off 8pm Eastern time in the US) but they have been picked up by Channel 5. Nobody is doing MNF as we stand, although that affects SF just once I believe this season?
Channel 5 are also doing a Saturday morning magazine show. Oh, and Neil Reynolds, a well-known pundit this side of the pond, has just launched a blog on the BBC website.
Apologies to the vast majority of users of this wonderful site who may be bored senseless by all of this, as it matters to you not (unless you visit our shores on business or whatever and are here in a hotel room on a Sunday night!)
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

If you can only get the scores before the bookies close, you can wipe them out. Wouldn’t that be sweet.
Frontline news : Football fan beats the odds !!!.
Ha ha - that would be nice
I could afford to move to San Francisco!
Trust a Vegas resident to think of the betting angle, by the way! ;)
This actually happened...
In the 80s in Ireland the betting shops had just started offering bets on American sports. They would tabulate the scores from those published in the UK and Irish newspapers, which are a day old (i.e. you see Tuesday’s scores on Thursday).
One problem: The betting authorities had completely failed to realize they were a day old. So you could technically bet on yesterday’s game. Well, one guy who must have had a buddy in America to get him the scores made a killing. The best part is that he kept this going for several weeks, throwing in some big losses now and again to throw the authorities off the scent and ended up making like 50 grand before somebody figured out what was going on.
Thanks
I had know idea bbc were covering the game. i dont have sky so i only watch the sunday and monday night football on FIVE.
You won't be watching MNF on Five this season
But I do understand that Five are planning some sort of Saturday morning magazine show.
I am actually starting to wonder whether Game Pass would be cheaper than Sky, since I don’t think we’ll be seeing a lot of 49ers games on Sky this year, with the lack of red button effectively cutting by a third the number of games they will be showing, reducing by a third the possibility of seeing the Niners. So you may not be missing out on much, Shovel!
Enjoy the radio broadcast my UK friend!
I lived in Mexico
In one of the local bars they had the Sky network with all NFL games available.
The only problem was that one had to practicaly fight someone to watch a Niner game….damn Cowboy fans.
I’m thinking there has to be a pub or some place to go.
Well good to here there are some Niner fans representing in the UK.
I have a friend living outside of London who is also a Niner fan. He’s a cheeky fellow.
Sky used to show one game at 6, another at 9
… but both timeslots had an option where you could press a button to select another game, with a choice of two there. So that made three at 6, three at 9 (UK times) which meant six games per evening plus the late Sunday game, plus MNF etc. Now the red button option has – apparently – gone. I imagine that’s how you saw the Niners in Mexico, and that’s what you would have beenv fighting the Cowgirl over. But if the red button option has gone, we’ll be significantly less likely to see the 49ers. Still, being on BBC radio on Sunday is cool.
Does your cheeky friend live north or south of London? I could start a UK club!
Not sure
I’m not sure. He just moved there. I’ll check with him. He works for the NSA so he is hard to get in contact with.
He’s a real goofy dude. But loves the niners.
I’m sure he would be happy about a club.
I think its cool you get it on the radio. I’ve had to listen on the radio a few times here in Oregon. It’s actually not bad.
Sorry for delay in replying ...
… I missed this. I work in west London; live in Herts. Are you a 49ers fan? Your profile only mentions the Red Sox! Good to see a fellow Londoner on here though!
I'm getting it live here in Australia
Games comes on 6.00 am Monday morning
I will glued to the screen hanging over.
Will there be a match day thread happening?
