49ers Unofficial Official 2009 depth chart
At some point this week (I'm guessing), the 49ers will post what they consider their "official" depth chart for 2009. For now the site says the official depth chart hasn't been released.
The good news is that we do have an unofficial depth chart that seems likely to be pretty close to official. In that game release I received from the team, it includes a page with the unofficial depth chart. A couple weeks ago it would have meant a lot less in terms of week 1 starters. At this point though, even with a couple signs potentially in the offing (a TE and RB/FB), we probably have a pretty good take on it. I'd imagine most of us could write this on our own, but it's still worth posting what the team is saying.
The one thing I still find particularly interesting is that they only list one player at nose tackle (Aubrayo Franklin) with no backups. I'm curious to see how the team rotates players in to keep Franklin fresh. Will we see a line of Smith - Sopoaga/Balmer - Sopoaga/Balmer on occasion? On nickel it will be just as interesting. Maybe go Smith, Sopoaga, Balmer, McDonald? Just one of many things we'll find out on Sunday.
Underline: rookies
Italics: drafted rookie who has yet to sign
[player]: injured

I thought Roman was the backup SS not FS. He sucks at FS
Also, I don’t think they will go for another RB or TE, at least for now.
Soap and Balmer both back up Franklin
I like seeing Brown as Clements. Maybe the 49ers will trade Clements to someone like Detroit for their 2010 or 2011 1st round draft pick?

I like your style Eastbayjim!
I would totally hope they trade Clements… Way too much money for not enough profit! Also what the hell did Shawntae Spencer to to beat Bly? Did anyone hear about anything miraculous that he did? that’s just not smart in my opinion… WE should start Brown opposite to Bly and that would make me feel comfortable… Now we have to wait for Spencer to play a couple sh_tty games before they give the job to ether brown or bly… aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa get your ish together 9ers it’s GAME WEEK SUCKAS!!! R U READY FOR SOME FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL?????
whooooooooooooooooooo
Huh?
Like, honestly, give me a real complaint about Shawntae Spencer other than the fact that he doesn’t make the highlight reel? He’s a very solid corner who isn’t prone to making mistakes. Sure, I like Brown over Spencer but I’d feel comfortable with Spencer or Bly starting on the right, and even to an extent I’d love to see Brown starting on the left.
Do you really think they would actually put Sims in if Staley was hurt ? I think they would move Snyder to LT and put Pashos at RT and leave Sims where he belongs,on the bench. (he actually belongs at home watching on tv like most of us !).
Snyder, at LT?

offensive tackles
If Staley got hurt week 1, I don’t think Pashos would be moved into the starting lineup right away. He still has to learn the playbook.

tuckforce: I listen to the radio braodcasts and Gary Plummer kept saying that although Bly looked pretty good he was often out of position.Either he doesn’t know the defense well enough to please Manusky and Sing or else he is too much of a freelancer and got in the doghouse that way. Sing did say that Spencer knew the defense better than Bly,in his statement.
a covert passing team?
just two tight ends, just two real running backs (Gore, Coffee) and 6 playing receivers? Ok, if that’s what I’m told. Go 60/40 Niners!
He doesn't count yet
He hasn’t signed. If he signs, they’ll have to cut someone.

apologies
Correct he has not signed and thus does not count. But they’re including him on it anyways, so I figure I will as well.

Is Smith really the backup SS?
I thought Roman was playing with the first team when Lewis got hurt….

I think...
… Roman is the first backup at both safety spots. Smith will probably have to ease his way into the rotation.
That's what I thought
But I hope Smith is a better FS than Roman.
