Mystery Solved?
First, the niners signed another guard to the practice squad today. Drew Radovich finally solving the mystery of why Khalif Mitchell was cut with an open practice squad spot.
Second, Sing made a few comments about Shawntae Spencer.
"Shawntae was named the starter because of the technique he uses and his familiarity with the defense."
"I think Shawntae is better than he's ever been."
Has anyone reviewed the pre season games and seen any of this? Im gonna have to trust Sing here but I definitely didn't notice it myself.
For anyone wondering about why they haven't heard of Drew Radovich, its because hes never played an NFL snap before. He came out of USC last year to the Vikings. 6-5 305 (small for our beef line) and age 24. He was drafted as a tackle, but it would appear the niners are going to use him as a guard. He was an undrafted free agent for the vikings and I believe he was injured in his first year. That's all I got on him.

I actually do believe that Spencer’s technique is quite good. His footwork has always impressed the hell out of me, and he has pretty good cover skills. His knocks have been an inability to hang with the speed and burst of the league’s top-tier receivers, not really having a nose for “playmaking,” and – of course – being pretty fragile.
If he’s as good as he’s ever looked, that’s a very good cornerback to have in the starting lineup against most teams. Hopefully he can avoid the injuries, but at this point I wouldn’t exactly count on it.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

Keeping up.
Spencer has the physical tools to keep up with most WRs (i.e. decent speed and burst to go along with size). I honestly think his biggest bug-a-boos in years past are his injuries and just flat out inexperience. It’ll definitely be interesting to see what he’s learned sitting out last season and how he applies it, and more interesting to see if he can stay healthy.
