I was reading the Golden Nuggets that Ninjames posted this morning and there was one article that jumped out at me. It was from www.examiner.com and titled “Looking into the free agent market: Running backs and fullbacks.”
Now this isn’t going to be another article about trading Frank Gore or trying to get Reggie Bush, so don’t worry about that, but there was one name of the Unrestricted Free Agent list that jumped out at me, Leon Washington. Leon Washington is in his fourth year out of Florida State, and while his rushing numbers aren’t that impressive (370 carriers for 1,782 yards) his punt and kick return numbers are impressive.
This is what he has done since being in the league:
Punt Return: 64 returns for 599 yards, a 9.4 yard average. No touchdowns.
Kick Return: 117 returns for 2,986 yards, a 25.5 average. 4 touchdowns.
While he is 27, which may be old for a returner, one can’t argue that his numbers are better then anyone else on the 49ers. Plus with Thomas Jones being the main back with the Jets, and with the rookie Greene starting to come alive, I don’t know if the Jets would want to bring him back.
Of course there is a down side. I believe that he was having contract issues that I don’t think ever got solved, and he is coming off of an injury.
Well I attached a poll to get peoples opinions, and please feel free to leave a comment below.
