Bowl Games Gameday Thread (Part 2): January 2nd, 2009
We are down to the last two bowl games this evening and the last day before we start hitting the major bowl games.
We will take a look in to the teams in The AutoZone Liberty Bowl and The Valero Alamo Bowl.
The teams that will be facing off in The Liberty Bowl will be The (7-5, 3-5) Arkansas Razorbacks and The (9-4, 7-1) East Carolina Pirates. The Razorbacks finished 4th in the SEC - West while the Pirates finished in 1st place in the C-USA - East. Despite the difference in records and placing in their respective conferences, I think this should be a pretty decently matched game.
The last game of the evening will be The Alamo Bowl which will feature The (6-6, 4-4) Michigan State Spartans and The (8-4, 5-3) Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Spartans finshed in 5th place in the Big Ten and The Red Raiders finished 3rd in the Big 12 - South.
After the jump we will look at all four teams and their key players, stats, along with other information regarding the two games.

Petrino
I’m in no way a Falcons Fan and I wanted to spit upon seeing him. He was just a disgrace in the NFL as was Saban.

bowl games
have not been kind to several QB’s…
Snead played poorly, Robinson wasn’t great, Canfield unspectacular…Mallett doesn’t look good so far…
"Vernon is going to be a great tight end one day, but he's got to put the whole package together." - Thanks Sing for echoing this.
I have seen that so far
in a few games. Balls going through guys hands, drops, poor protection. Def. not favoring QB’s raising their draft stock…

No doubt...
That Cotton Bowl as an awful bowl. I haven’t seen that much awful offensively in a premier game in a LONG time. Snaps were getting screwed up, communications breakdowns were all over the place, and both O-Line’s were getting blown out of the water. Neither Snead or Robinson looked like high school prospects, much less NFL prospects.
I’ve seen enough from Robinson to know that when the entire system doesn’t collapse, he can play good ball. Snead showed some good passes. But dear lord, that was lousy play.
ECU
looks great. Skip Holtz, I mean c’mon did we see this team not continuing to improve under him?!?

Arkansas
was not expecting this level of speed and size from a C-USA team.

Yep and that's on the coach
One of the big duties of the coach is to say “Look I know you’re going ‘Ha Conference USA they’re whimps!’ Well these guys aren’t and we need to not take them too lightly.”

Interesting
The announcer noted that the Razorbacks failed to realize that the other team might be what they are. Seems to denote the coach not doing his homework and not helping his kids understand who they were facing.

I like Ruffin
Ok there’s some bias there cuz he’s a hometown boy (From Virginia Beach). On that note Bly is from the same school my daughter went to. She wasn’t as good a CB as he was, darn her! LOL

Wow
ECU’s kicker missed 3 field goals at the end of the game… How bad that kid must feel…
Seaking of kickers
the Niners have a new kicker for this week again. Schmitt is out, Nedney is out, now we have Shane Andrus (whoever that is)
Tim Tebow = 1,432,219 season tickets next year. Who wouldn't pick him in the 1st round with those projections?
Cousins is throwing some good passes
