Redskins hire 49ers OL coach Chris Foerster
It remains to be seen whether Chris Foerster was to be blamed for the 49ers offensive line woes, but in the meantime, he's been hired away by Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins to be their offensive line coach. Coach Singletary had indicated in his conference call last week that a team had expressed interest in one of his coaches, but didn't say who. The folks at Hogs Haven seem to be relatively pleased with the hiring.
The team will likely be adding at least one, if not two, offensive linemen to this unit in the draft and free agency. Now we'll be getting a new OL coach as well. We'll have more updates as the coaching search moves along.

Mike Solari
former TE and assistant O-Line coach in SF is a possible candidate. Coached Seattle’s O-Line past two seasons (not impressive perhaps but they’ve had injuries too…) and before that 11 years in the same position in KC.
"Vernon is going to be a great tight end one day, but he's got to put the whole package together." - Thanks Sing for echoing this.
That's what Maiocco was saying too
Hopefully we don’t wait until he’s already been hired by someone else to offer him a contract
Agreed
I remember looking Foreseter’s stats up and he’s never produced a great OLine
besides Solari who else is out there?
Is there even anybody from college in the scope? Not an area i follow at all.
Was Cable a good OLine Coach?
I don’t follow the raiders, but i know he was the OLine coach before kiffin was fired. How is he?
Raiders had great production from their O-Line in my opinion.

I don't see Cable in SF with his temper and attitude issues...Not Sings style.

Maybe his temper issues
Singletary has more issues with egotism than with temper, it seems. I don’t think it would hurt to have an O-Line coach with some fire in his belly. I wouldn’t mind if they had a coach who was willing to punch a few of our O linemen, and I doubt Singletary would either.
Let's just say it would likely be an improvement
The Niners were 22nd in sacks allowed this year vs. 30th for the Raiders. However, we were last in 2008 and tied for last 2007. The Raiders were 24th in 2008 when Cable was OL coach for part of the season and 22nd in 2007 when he was in the position for the entire season. So maybe I got a little too excited, but at least it looks like it would be somewhat of an improvement.
What makes you think
That Cable would be willing to make that sort of demotion from HC all the way down to a position coach? I mean, he would make a great contribution to the team, but that’s nearly impossible.
Sometimes I lay in bed at night and wonder if McCloughan ever thought about becoming a gynecologist.

If the Raiders fire him he won't get a HC job anywhere else in the league.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
GET A "BIG UGLIES" COACH FROM COLLEGE
Oklahoma, Stanford and Nebraska are big time schools with high profiles that ran all over everybody. And their linemen had to coached/taught by somebody ’cause they surely did not get their technique from tea-leaves. Besides, we could really, really use an infusion of more youth on the roster
Never happen but
Kirk Ferentz from Iowa (head coach) was an O-Line coach under Hayden Frye before he worked his way up the ladder. Considering the constant talent at O-Line that has come out of Iowa…he’d be a stellar hire. He’s a great coach and motivator too. Great straight-forward guy.
He’s had big time offers from the NFL before (Coord, HC interviews) and stayed in school though. Never happen…too bad.

REMEMBER BOBB
Speaking of the late 9er line coach McKittrick of course. He proved time and again, and year in and year out that it was 97 percent coaching and the rest athletes. His guys were all over the lot in size. This players name escapes me now, but we had a tackle that played most effectively for years that was UNDER 6’4’ and did not weight 300 lbs with lead weights in his pocket. Giving up sacks, Hey, fogidabouit! Just remembered – Derrick Deese was it I’m sure
then again
maybe they were picking the right athletes. I’m sure they cut some linemen that MicKittrick deemed unworthy. Not saying it wasn’t all about the coaching, but there’s a lot of variables at play.
I'm shocked by this. Not saddened, but shocked.
I’m not sure even what to do.
Click my heels?
Jump for joy?
Regardless, I’m convinced that what the Niners should do is trade their 2nd-rounder to the Redskins for a future first.
Jason Hill is turning the corner!
Redskins
The Redskins have been good to the 49ers over the years. Remember they gave us a couple draft picks for Brandon Lloyd.

those days are over now that Vinny Cerrato is gone
Since he was in the Bill Walsh era, you can have him back.
"It was one of those things where everyone in the building was suddenly excited again," Cerrato said. "And all the women in the building were the most excited. They couldn't believe we were getting the guy from "Dancing With the Stars."

Smart move by the Skins ...
If you want the best, hire the man who coached the best. They must want an O Line as good as ours.

Maybe he fis he zone blocking scheme better than a changing one
Who knows. The scheme is Shanahan’s though.

I think so
I saw lots of “quasi-zone” scheming going on this year with the line. I think it takes a different kind of coach to coach straight up blocking instead of the zone blocking.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Unbelievable!
It’s like seeing a team hire the St. Louis Rams’ quarterback coach

Well, that's that. Mike Solari hired as OL coach ...

LET US SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH O-LINE NOW
Singletary seems to have established a position of letting his coaches actually coach. So if that holds true, Solari is coming in at the absolute perfect time to take a very HARD look back on what talent we have, use his time in the NFL to give first-rate advice on FA O-line acquisitions, and possibly see to it that we say good-bye to one or two guys that don’t belong. I, for one, am still hoping against all hope that we get a “proven” stud FA Tackle and FA guard that’s meaner than a junk-yard dog (and I’m tellin ya’ Solari knows who they are). From the draft then we need a top of the line tackle and ANOTHER “mean-as-a-snake” OG. Then look out!
Two, not one, (one drafted and one FA) gifted return men and more speed in the defensive back field, and we will be a team to be reckoned with. Take that to the bank.
