49ers sign G Brian De La Puente to future contract
We have our first "blast from the past" signing of the offseason. The 49ers announced they've signed former Cal Bear, guard Brian De La Puente to a future contract. Basically that means they have his rights and if he makes the team, he'll get an actual contract. The 49ers originally signed DLP (much easier to type) as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2008. He had his ups and downs in training camp, and made it to the last round of cuts. The 49ers could not sneak him through waivers though, as he was signed by the Chiefs to their active roster.
Since then DLP has spent time on the Seahawks and Panthers practice squads. DLP is 6'2, 308 lbs, and given some of the question marks at the guard position, should get a decent shot to provide some depth for the team out of training camp.

Maybe he’ll be better than Tony Wragge
Tim Tebow = 1,432,219 season tickets next year. Who wouldn't pick him in the 1st round with those projections?
Hopefully
49ers Al Grito De Guerra!!! hahaha

Was he actually off of the Panthers PS?
Last I remember he was still there. Just curious
I blog the Carolina Panthers at www.catscratchreader.com
we signing him to our practice squad?
OR are we wanting to give him an honest look to compete but if we dont see potentail we cut him?
He's one of the 80 guys that will go to training camp
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Go Bears!
Nice to see a Cal guy get on the 49ers
He was 5-15 with the Oakland Raiders and got fired before his second season was over. He went 7-6 in his one year at Tennessee in a season when the SEC wasn't terribly good. He lost at home to UCLA; the Bruins only road win in the Pac-10 came at Washington State.
This could potentially be a player that will be part of the depth chart in 2010.
Practice squad? Maybe, starter? Possible too. The new OL coach worked with this kid on the Seattle team. He was a part of their PS as well last season. This signing after the OL Coach hire, would lead me to believe his hand is in on this one. This guy is a bigger guard, so maybe he has something that our new coach likes. I read this in the link posted by ninjames.
Tribute to #44...............The Elmira Express!!
I liked him when he was with us
and for what it’s worth I always sign him as a cheap backup G in madden…
