100 in 100: Joe Haden (17 of 100)
Since we took a look at how Brandon LaFell got the better of Haden in yesterday's 100 in 100 piece, I felt it was only fair to take a look at some of Haden's better qualities this afternoon.
In some of the earlier Mock Drafts of the year, a lot of folks had Joe Haden coming to San Francisco. While I never have agreed with this pick here because I feel like Nate Clements and Shawntae Spencer do a very good job, he is the best Corner in all of the Corner's that are coming out this year. I feel that if the Niners are going to upgrade our secondary next season, they will have to get a safety with a bit more range. Cornerback is not a very high area of concern, but it is still a concern as far as the future is concerned.
Haden does play with a very physical mind set and he doesn't shy away from contact. His coverage sometimes does come in to question though. If he can work on a few things before coming in to a training camp, he may have a positive step in the right direction. Haden may have the skill-set to be an above average Corner in the NFL, but at this point, it is hard for me to see him in that elite class. He takes alot of chances much like Dre Bly, and sometimes it works in his favor and other times he is exploited by it.
The Florida Junior started all three years while there. In '07, Haden as a True Freshman started 12 games only missing one due to an ankle sprain. As a Sophomore in '08, Haden started all 14 games and again only missed one game in '09 as a Junior.
Below, we'll highlight some of Haden's collegiate career with some video, stats, and honors.
The feed here highlights Haden's ability to make plays on the ball as I mentioned above. He has some of the tools that it will take at the next level but again, has to fine tune some of what he does negatively. This is one of those players that I see could go either way in his talent at the next level. It is always a gamble in any pick, but some players are more of a gamble than others.

SUMMARY AND PROJECTIONS:
Most have Haden going very high in the draft and some even have him going top 10, including myself. BUT, I will say that just because I have him going that high, it doesn't equate to "I think he's a top 10 talent". He will have alot to live up to as far as expectations are concerned and some times that can make or break a player.
Possibilities -- 1st Round; Chiefs, Browns, Seahawks, Bills, Jags, 49ers, Giants, Falcons

I dont think I would be okay with that pick. It ignores our real problem in the secondary. We need a 1st or 2nd round pick spent on Safety not Corner.

I want a later round pick for CB though just for insurance purposes
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
I like Walter Thrurmond from Oregon in the later rounds. He’s big, physical, and can step in front of passes to deflect and or pick them off. Plus he does returns also. He would have been a top prospect but he got injured.

I don't know which mock draft site it was
But one of them had us picking Thurmond in the 1st round. . .Whoever that is apparently hadn’t had enough to drink.
Yeah, that’s definitely WAY to high for that. I have never seen a mock with him going higher than in the 4th. I would stay way from whatever site you saw that on as a source, that’s for sure.

Seen mocks with him going to niners in 2nd and 3rd.....
Never as high as the first. That’s blasphemy.

I agree with Safety in first
but if there isn’t a guy there, and Haden is available, I wouldn’t be against it. It’s BPA for me afterall. I’m not sure why everyone hate him so much. I think he is a good player, but like 99% of college players, has holes that need to be coached out. A shut down corner opens up sooo many opportunities for our defense. We won’t need safety help to that side so it allows us to play the run more aggressively. I’m all for a Safety, but 2011 draft we will need a CB, so if the #1 CB is available a year early, who cares, let’s grab him.
Its not that I hate him because I don’t. I hate the pick and with a 13 I don’t think he is BPA. I think he is highly inflated. I would take Patrick Robinson, Kyle Wilson, Brandon Ghee, and Perrish Cox over him.
And I am sorry but Joe Haden doesn’t = “shut-down corner”.
I just don’t think Haden is a BPA high or even mid 1st round. I’d take Dez Bryant, C.J. Spiller, any of the high projected linemen, and a few others over Haden. I think as far as BPA is concerned there are guys better than Haden.

He kind of reminds me of Nate Clements, not a shutdown corner but a pretty good one but I rather have Eric Berry.

He's smaller than Clemments

you say whaaaaat?
i would stay as far away from dez bryant ,because i think he has dion sanders agent and i think anybody he’s connected with will be looking 4 top money just like crabtree THOUGHT he would get and spiller 2 me is a reach that high.We need 2 protect alex smith first and then address our secondary.
hey drew?
do you think the niners will look at sharper .d (new orleans) since there choosing not 2 franchise him i know he’s kind of old but he’s a ball hawk??
I’m not a fan of taking 1st round CB. The majority of the time they get rushed into the starting lineup and get toasted. Yes, you have to draft in the 1st round to land a Revis or Bailey but those guys really don’t come around that often.
I really like the what the current 49ers regime has been doing, taking a talented prospect in the 2nd or 3rd and developing that player for a few years into a good starter. When short on talent, they sign a veteran player for a season.
Namdi was also a first round pick and is better than revis and bailey I think because no one throws to him anymore lol

Are you going to do Brandon Ghee later on?
I feel that Ghee will be the best CB out of this class.

He’s on the list but it’s closer toward draft time… I think I have him in the late 70’s somewhere on the list.

How about Kyle Wilson
I’d prefer him in later rounds than Haden in first, but like I said above, if we have chance for #1 rated CB in draft, I’m all for it especially because in 2011 we will be dying for CB help.
I don't think Kyle Wilson makes it to our 2nd round pick
Wouldn’t surprise me if he got drafted in the 1st
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.
Wilson has gone in the 3rd in some good mocks like Walter football and Drafttek. Bottom line, he’s a 2nd rounder, and yet no worse than Haden.
I speak fluent English and Arabic and have a working knowledge of Spanish. Yet a certain GrahamCrakalaka cannot distinguish me from Mike Fox. My God, the Dodgers suck.
I think he'll be a 2nd or 3rd rounder
He has great game speed.
If he runs a good 40 (he should) he’ll start rising up draft boards (or at least MOCK draft boards).
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.
