Does this make San Francisco the favorites for the division in 2010? Hey listen, I understand that it’s way too early and we have not even wrapped up the 2009 season yet. But, it’s never too early to think about next season, especially considering we didn’t make the playoffs in 2009. It’s an honest question to ask. We were not that far from Arizona this season, at least in terms of talent. Take Kurt Warner out of the equation and how good is Arizona? My answer is that they are average at best. Add the fact that they are going to actively shop Bolden in the off-season and then your taking away two of their three best offensive players away. With Matt Leinert most likely taking the helm next seasons is it possible that the 49ers QB situation heading into 2010 is thatn the Cardinals? Alex Smith proved himself to be an above average QB this season, Matt Leinert is yet to prove he can do anything in the NFL. Add the maturity factor in terms of players like Glen Coffee, Michael Crabtree, Chilo Rachal, Dashon Goldson, Ahmad Brooks and Tarell Brown then we are already better than we were in 2009. Can you say the same thing regarding Arizona; minus Warner and possibly Bolden? I don’t think so

San Francisco also has two 1st round picks and a multitude of opportunities in the free agent market. There is a distinct possibility that the 49ers are going to greatly improve their roster even prior to April’s draft, this of course depending somewhat on the College Bargining Agreement (CBA0. I see no reason why the 49ers can’t add a tackle or guard as well as a #3 WR and possibly a Safety via the draft. Names included are Michael Roos, Marcus McNeill, Bobbie Williams, Logan Menkins, Darryn Colledge and Stephan Neal in offensive line. Terrell Owens, Malcolm Floyd, Steve Breaston and Michael Jenkins at WR. As well as OJ Atogwe and Daron Landry at Safety. If we grab one from each of those positions than we are in great shape going into the draft. Just an FYI I will be posting my 49ers mock at the end of this thread.

Arizona really doesn’t have much space to add many players via free agency, they may indeed pick up a 2nd or 3rd round pick in a Bolden trade, but lets be serious; how is that going to make them any better? With Leinart at the helm you are going from one of the top 5 QB’s in the NFL to one in the bottom 3rd in the NFL. That is a dramatic downgrade from the 2009 season. If Arizona didn’t have Warner this season I don’t believe that they would have finished above .500 and that’s to argue against. You take away a 4,000 yard passer who completed 70% percent and had a 2.5-1 TD/INT ratio and replace him with a QB that will complete less than 60% and have a 1-1 TD/INT ratio. That seriously limits what you can do offensively, no matter the scheme. Arizona’s offensive line is average at best and the running game, despite coming on at the end, cannot be expected to carry the load. Even without Bolden, Arizona has a darn good receiving corp with Fitzgerald, Breaston and Doucet. Breaston is also going to be a restricted free agent if the CBA passes. But as of now they don’t have a TE worth a darn or a QB that has proven he can do anything. The Cardinals defense got absolutely lit up in the final two games and in my opinion is below average. All this equals .500 at the absolute best. Even without any upgrades this off-season San Francisco is better than Arizona. I mean theoretically you could take the two 1st round picks away and not add one single free agent and San Francisco would be favored. Whose with me on this?

Okay onto the all important Mock Draft

1. RB- CJ Spiller Clemson

1. OT- Brian Bulaga Iowa

2. CB- Donovan Warren Michigan

3. QB- Tim Tebow Florida

4. DE- George Selvie South Florida

5. SS- Justin Woodall Alabama

5. TE- Colin Peek Alabama

6. OG- Brandon Carter Texas Tech

7. WR- Shay Hodge Mississippi

Keep in mind this mock draft is with an assumption that the 49ers will add a G, WR and S via free agency. I will update it on other threads if those circumstances change when free agency starts.
