Jeff Ulbrich reportedly hired by Seattle Seahawks as assistant

John Clayton is reporting that the Seattle Seahawks have hired former 49er LB Jeff Ulbrich as an assistant coach.  Mike Sando speculates it is as an assistant special teams coach, but details have not yet been revealed.

It's a shame Ulbrich ended up at a division rival, but such is life.  Best of luck to Jeff, but not too much luck to whatever unit he ends up coaching.

Good for him

I know he wanted to get into coaching right away. Probably better for him to go to another team than to coach his previous teammates.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will get picked in the first round.

It means the Hawks are Taking the Niners Serioiusly

Now they have someone who knows the team. I think this is a sign of how next season is shaping up in terms of expectations. The SF 49ers will be the favorite to win the division. They are now the most stable team of the four, indeed.

That was my first thought....

they want some inside information, the Bill Belicheat way

I doubt that.

More like Pete Caroll was probably familiar with Ulbrich since both were in Cali for this entire decade, there were openings in the coaching staff, and Ulbrich wanted to coach.

Holmgren would have drafted Crabtree.

Man, that is sort of not good. He knows our schemes and defense inside and out.

Just change a few things.

Peyton Manning did this to a former teammate.

(Deep Breath)

Ulbrich should have been hired as one of the Niners’ assistant coaches. Players have to swallow their pride being coached by a former teammate. I want togetherness, the same familiar Niner legacy, because the Hawks are just going to pick his brain for their own purposes.

Wouldn't work. Can't work, not that soon.

The way I look at it, he is apart of a division rival, It has always been site decorum the teams before and their staff and their players.

He right now is one of them. You have to love players like Ulbrich and what they bring to a team. However, I am a SF 49ers fan, nothing else, and he is on the coaching staff of the Seahawks so (site decorum him). As far as a retired 49er, he was great for the organization, when winning was hard to come by.

I calculate that this will have 0 (give or take) impact on our season next year. Good for him, though.

Some real classy comments

I say good for Jeff. He gave all he had for a decade, and took his demotion from starter to back-up/special teams duty without so much as a whine. He was a class act through the bad times and the worse times (he really didn’t get to experience the good times much.) His rookie year was Jerry Rice’s last year in a 49er uniform. He was on the roster in our last playoff game in 2002. And he gets to join a very select group of guys in the 49ers “10 year club.”

Right on Jeff, great success in your new job and I hope the Seahawks have an outstanding special teams unit this year under your direction (although I also hope they have one of the worst offenses and defenses in the NFL.) Cheers.

What?

Maiocco said that he wanted to come to the 49ers but there were no openings.
