FedEx Orange Bowl Gameday Thread

We got a pretty good crowd last night for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and I would guess that we will get the same this evening for the Orange Bowl. Just one more game after tonight before we get to the National Championship Game. This evenings matchup should be nothing short of exciting. There are some dynamic players coming of both sidelines which should make it even more interesting. The Orange Bowl has been revered as one of the most prestigious bowl games. The history of the Orange Bowl goes all the way back to 1935 and in that time have been some fantastic knock 'em down drag 'em out slugfests.

Tonight's matchup features The # 9 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets against The # 10 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes. Georgia Tech finished 1st in the ACC Coastal Division with a (11-2, 7-1) record while Iowa finished 2nd in the Big Ten with a (10-2, 6-2) record. Like I mentioned above, there will be several key players in this game. Below the jump we will look at some of these players, their stats, and other relative information to the game tonight.

Good prospects...haha

Tim Tebow = 1,432,219 season tickets next year. Who wouldn't pick him in the 1st round with those projections?

Iowa is the underdog though

Lets Go Hawkeyes

Ive been pumped about this game for the past month. I swear I have the strangest variety of favorite sports teams, lol

He would have more that is for sure

but look at his Avg per catch above. Imagine if he had Case Keenum or Pike or one of thsoe guys throwing it to him. He would probably have 2000 Yards receiving and 90 Catches or so…
Nesbitt’s Comp Rate is less than 50%

Bulaga is so far

winning the matchup I care most about

Would be funny if we ended up drafting both and they play against each other in practice next year

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Jan 5, 2010 5:45 PM PST reply actions

Morgan is getting a consistent push

But Bulaga isn’t letting him do much more than that.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Jan 5, 2010 5:46 PM PST up reply actions

yup

And even though I’m kookoo for Jerry Hughes there is no comparing the talent between Morgan and Hughes.

Morgan is almost as good as Orakpo IMO

Gimme 1 round!

I’m looking for 91 and didn’t see him

Yeah

He was rushing standing up on that TD pass

Plus Morgan has more of the size we would want for a DE in a 3-4 scheme

by Camraman926 on Jan 5, 2010 5:54 PM PST up reply actions

Well I want Hughes as an OLB

and we can get him in the 2nd round quite possibly. He’s got great instincts and speed and is only weak against the run… and the entire rest of our team is strong against the run to make up for that but can’t get pressure most of the time. Morgan would be great as a 3-4 DE though

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Jan 5, 2010 6:06 PM PST up reply actions

Morgan is more of a 4-3 DE

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Jan 5, 2010 6:07 PM PST up reply actions

Georgia tech may disagree

They run a 4-3 defense and use him as a DE.
When they go with 3 down linemen they stand Morgan up.

He is much more effective from the 4-3 DE position than from the 3-4 OLB position though.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

He’s dominating the other inferior D-linemen

He was having big problems with his thyroid in the middle of the season

Only “controlled”

From what ive heard

Their entire D-Line will be back, they will lose at least 2 guys on the O-Line, 3 if Bulaga comes out. Almost everybody should be back, at least 17 or 18 of the 22 starters, which would make Iowa an early Big Ten favorite for next year. The thought of it just gets me excited

yep

Angerer, Dace Richardson on the OL, Their RT whose na,me escapes me, Possibly AJ Edds at LB, not sure if he’s a junior or senior. Otherwise this is a very junior and senior heavy team, and since their best DL (Clayborne) already said he’d be back, id imagine most of the team will return, and make a serious statement next year for the Big 10

by Drew Kerr on Jan 5, 2010 6:03 PM PST up reply actions

As an Iowa Fan I think the thing I like most about Stanzi

Is the fact that he has a short memory. The guy can throw a few picks and then lead his team to a comeback. I think it was the Mich State Game this year when he threw like 3 or 4 picks in the 3rd quarter, and then led his team back to win on that last play slant. The guy is great mentally, which is hard to find in college quarterbacks sometimes.

The RT is a senior, so he'll be available

But Bulaga is MUCH better.

whoops ...haha

too bad, you have been missing alot. But if he keeps playing this way, you wont miss anymore. He’s been killing it

by Drew Kerr on Jan 5, 2010 6:13 PM PST up reply actions

Because Bulaga is a monstrous run blocker

And he has the speed to pass block too.
Would be a good LT or an amazing RT.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Jan 5, 2010 6:14 PM PST up reply actions

We don't know yet

Bulaga isn’t as athletic (fast) as Campbell, Okung, or maybe even Trent Williams.

He could fall if he doesn’t do so well in drills at the combine.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Jan 5, 2010 6:17 PM PST up reply actions

Actually

He’s run a faster 40 than Campbell lol. He runs a low 4.9

He and Campbell are significantly faster than the others

and he’s a couple hundredths faster than Campbell. Or was at least.

I'm not talking 40 time

by SportsChicken on Jan 5, 2010 6:20 PM PST up reply actions

Oh ok

On the 3 cone drill and the 20 yard shuttle Campbell would likely beat him. I’d put him up against Okung and I’d wager he’d smoke the shit outta Williams

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Jan 5, 2010 6:24 PM PST up reply actions

The way he is playing yes

With a game like this he could leapfrog Okung into the top 5. But he could still have something people don’t like and slide to 13 where GODDAMMIT WE BETTER TAKE HIM

There was RARELY any pressure from that side when Sims was in and I remember vividly Darnell Dockett working Staley in both games. Well what little he played in the second one before Sims came in and held his own like he had every other game he hadd played in

Hawk fan here in Iowa...

…loved the game last night, enjoying your salivation over B Bulaga, but would like to point out that in GTs running scheme they do A LOT of chop cut blocking, which is why they were on their heads so often.
Their lines were way to small for Iowa (we’re used to playing Wisconsin and Ohio State for (site decorum) sakes. Leading up to the game everyone said we would get run all over, but our guys had the power AND the speed to overcome Coach Johnson’s triple option flexbone spread whatever he calls it.

I dont think he has ever played RT

Pretty big transition when you’re talking about going from college to pro. That’s the main reason Staley was not good over there. There is an adjustment to the speed of the game. Staley has that down. I say it makes more sense to throw Staley to the right side now that he has the speed of the game down. Start Bulaga at the LT position.

There hasn’t been an good act since U2 performed at the SuperBowl in New Orleans and there hasn’t been an act from this generation since the NippleGate debacle.

I demand performers who have actually released an album this decade at some point.
