Shaun Hill
It was a mistake to get rid of hill, I was angry when they benched him last year. He was a big reason we had the success we did at the beginning of last season. That being said i still support smith as our starter with who we got now, although I would love to see nate davis eventually get his chance. When stafford comes back and if he struggles I wouldn't be surprised to see hill take over the starter role for Detroit this year.
Good luck Shaun, oh what could of been.

Stafford
Once Stafford is healthy and able to play, the Lions will let him work through struggles. To think otherwise is a little crazy.
yes that is possible
hill is doing better with detroit than stafford has done, its about winning, and detroit has played well with hill and hill is showing he can really spread the ball around and create a good passing attack for the lions.

The 49ers started the 2009 season hot by winning three of the first four games of the season. Their only lost in that span was against the Minnesota Vikings in a last second, 32-yard touchdown from QB Brett Farve to WR Greg Lewis.
Still at least he has a positive record as a starter
He might have had a bad game, but I didn’t think he should have been benched. He’s not the greatest, but at least we won games with him

We didnt lose any games because of him either
Which is why we started 3-2 last year (even though he is “supposedly” less talented than Smith) with a weaker OL, weaker talent at WR, an OC that garbles plays, and all the other excuses presented to defend Alex Smith performances this year.
so....
that negates everything else he ever did? houston game planned well against us that game, and the o-line was atrocious in the first half. with that kind of thinking smith should of been benched after the first half of the chiefs game. part of that was jimmy raye not getting creative and everyone knowing what was coming by the time we got to houston, you have to mix things up before people zero in on what we are going to do.
m robinson been perfect at qb this year
lol, he made one pass.
hill is a leader at qb, smith does not seem to be a leader.
Alex Smith could be a great QB if...
the Coaching staff didnt get in his way. Let him run the offense like Peyton Manning, I think some might be surprised…. do we have anything else left to lose? See what happens!
i agree
he seems to perform at a higher level when he is calling the plays.

He's had 7 different OCs.
Every single one of them got in his way??
u cant b serious if he cant get the ball

pretty obvious now that the problem all along wasn’t Hill but Raye

To think people’s reason for getting rid of Shaun Hill was to move onto a so-called capable starting NFL quarterback.
because...
We don’t need multiple Shaun Hill posts. Your post was basically posting comments from another article and then there was a poll on what the team’s record would be if Hill was here. I’d be happy to add a poll here, but I really don’t see why a second FanPost was needed. First in time is first in right.

Shaun Hill gets a coupl emore weeks
He played a great game last Sunday. If he puts together 3 constitutive wins, I would say the job will be his until he starts playing poorly again and then they will put Stafford back in. Hill has always been a bit Streaky, but while he is hot, expect to hear that “Stafford isn’t quite ready to start yet”.
Great backup...but not your franchise QB
I really respected Shaun for what he did here in ‘08 and the first few games of ’09, but the rest of the NFL caught up with him – they know that he can’t throw deep with velocity, that his passes have a higher arc than most NFL QBs. That’s what the Falcons saw last year, and that’s what the Texans exploited before he was benched.
Mind you, a weak-armed QB can succeed with these traits if he has a tall WR that can fight off DBs for the jump ball (C. Johnson). Shaun is succeeding right now because the other team has to account for Megatron, and when he’s covered Shaun can throw shorter passes, which he excels at – all 3 of his TD passes Sunday traveled less than 5 yards in the air (one was a 20-plus; however, all but 5 were RAC).
I still believe that Shaun is great coming off the bench, something he has proven this year, and I’ve always liked his leadership abilities. Even in the WCO, though, you need to be able to deliver the ball with authority 20 or more yards down the field to keep the defense on its toes – and I don’t think Shaun can do that on a regular basis enough to be a team’s regular QB. He’s best as an EXTREMELY short-term starter and sage backup to a younger QB.
I voted yes not because I believe it but because I’m not interested in what would have been. I’m interested in what is. And the team is 0-5. This is the same kind of question as “what would have happened if we had drafted Aaron Rodgers?” And it’s not the important question. It might be the least important question. Where would we be today if we had drafted Jake Plummer instead of Jim Druckenmiller? It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what would have happened. The thing that matters is that we didn’t. We didn’t draft Rodgers. We didn’t keep Hill. The important question is: “Was that a mistake?” If the answer is “Yes” then the next question should be “Who made that mistake, why did they make it, and what can be done to ensure they don’t make another one like it?”
What would have been just isn’t that important.
"I just struck out looking three times, but in any other ballpark those would have been home runs." - Aubrey Huff
Smith, Carr, Hill, heck why not throw Dilfer in there...it wouldn't matter, IMO.
The problem is more far reaching than the QB (it’s really ownership, but that’s another story). Niners are just not a very good team. Bad teams fumble the ball away. Bad teams have guys who think they’re Deion Sanders after they pick off a pass. Bad teams can’t block or tackle worth a dime and usually come out sluggish.
Fans were chanting “we want Carr” who ironically like Smith has more INTs than TDs. No thanks on the cast away Texan. N. Davis/Troy Smith (both of whom doesn’t know the play book yet) would be an option just to see what they have when/if the season is mathematically lost.
