I wouldn't be surprised if someone else has posted a fanpost/shot of this article. But this was something I was pondering this morning and had to bring up to everyone here on NN. This makes me wonder, if we were to cut our loses and move on without Alex next year, it could possibly come back to haunt us. In reality, we should have had low expectations for our OL this year. Their inexperience is showing in a big way right now, but a good deal of their criticism is falling on Alex Smith and on David Carr after this past weekend. Now I'm not saying Carr is a good QB. He's probably got more flaws than Alex and Troy Smith combined. But I don't care if it's Carr, Alex or Peyton Manning, if you've got a line that has had this kind of showing in front of you, you better have some good mobile instincts or you'll go from MVP to dog in a heartbeat! This is why I don't see it out of the realm of possibility that we give Alex at least another year or two to see if this OL can do better for him. When we look at QB FA's for next season, I'm not sure how much better we can get other than with Michael Vick and/or Donovan McNabb. At worst if we re-sign Alex, and find someone to take over as starting QB, we have a serviceable backup. Thoughts?
