49ers 3 - Broncos 0: LIVE from London Thread #2

Nn_in_london_medium

We're early in the second quarter with the 49ers nursing a 3-0 lead. Troy Smith has shown a solid arm and excellent timing on some short slants. The 49ers need to get some points on the board soon because this Broncos squad is capable of an offensive explosion any time.

On a side note, Wembley Stadium is amazing. It's apparently the most expensive stadium in the world, costing  £1.5 billion in 2007. At today's exchange rate that's over $2 billion.

At the half I'll upload some pictures to this thread.

GO NINERS!

Going to be honest

There isn’t a QB in the NFL who would have a great performance week in and week out with this play calling and this team.

I'm not operating on "if's"

Given the current team and play calling, there isn’t a single QB who would be great every single week. Obviously some could perform better, but this isn’t a top 10 offense with a great QB.

+1

that Troy Smith generally doesn’t look as lost as David Carr did last week. In fact, he seems to run the offense with more confidence than Alex has. Not saying he’s better than Alex, just saying that Troy’s play is highlighting an Alex weakness.

Not in Niners games

Because we generally don’t have the kind of rushers to cause blatant holds. In other games, holding has been called frequently. In week 5 I heard that more holding calls were made than any other year in NFL history before that.

Was the new positioning of the refs on the field this year to sit behind the QB.

The defense is not fine, it would be if the 49ers had an offense that kept them off the field, but when the 49ers defense is on the field there’s no pass rush and there’s no coverage. The only thing the defense is good at is stopping the run and allowing teams to win in the closing minutes of games.
