The NFL announced its nominees for their various weekly awards, and 49ers rookie safety Taylor Mays was nominated for Rookie of the Week after his performance in his first career start this past Sunday. Mays finished the game with 11 tackles while also recovering a touchdown on a beautiful play after a Dominique Zeigler punt block.
It's only been one start for Mays but he's certainly taken a positive step forward early in his NFL career. Coach Mike Singletary indicated yesterday that Mays would continue starting at strong safety.
