question -
is this just a freak thing, or is there a chance that this happened, at least partially, because the Niners were so reluctant to let Westbrook and Dixon get any extended playing time? Has Gore simply had too many carries over the last few years because we were too scared to let the backups play? Is there a chance his body is just worn down? I guess we’ll never know.

But I don’t think bones work that way. Boxers have thicker bones in their hands from microfractures healing and filling in some of the air pockets/compressing the bone (which is a little porous). I think the hip was just a freak thing. Someone falling on it wrong, or whatever.
Never know
I don’t think anyone studies the wear and tear of hips outside of 60+ year retirees with diagnosed pre-existing hip conditions.
