As I sat at the bar yesterday and watched the early games I started thinking about the 49ERS game that was coming up soon. The San Francisco 49ers had possibly one of the worst let down season in recent memory. They had numerous weapons on offense and a defense to match or even better it. Of course, the secondary wasn’t all that great, but they weren’t horrid either. Then, the game had begun.
They scored on the 1st drive of the day! I couldn’t believe it. A. Smith looked pretty darn good yesterday! Smith made the deep passes as he played without fear. He took charge of the team and helped out any way that he could (like running downfield and trying to make a block for Dixon). He played the way he should have been playing since he got here! On a ranking system of 1-10 I’d give him an 8.
Crabtree probably had his worse game this season with only 1 catch out of the 5 times he was passed to. Ginn Jr. couldn't catch a ball either. Thankfully we had the Vernon Davis to Alex Smith connection reborn as they connected for a 42 yard TD pass along with a total of 70 receiving yards. Westbrook caught 6 passes for 87 yards and one TD. Josh Morgan also had a pretty damn good game with only 3 receptions for 82 Yards along with a TD. Dixon had a pretty good game with 14 carries for 60 yards. Not too bad for our rookie running back. I LOVED what he did when the right side was stuffed. He just ran back to the left and had open field for days! Also, had A. Smith made it downfield and made the block, then Dixon could have possibly made the TD.
Then the defense had a spectacular day! D. Goldson, R. Smith, T. Spikes, and N. Clements all had 1 interception each for a total of 4. Then T. LaBoy had a sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery all in one play. P. Willis had an O.K. game. It wasn’t anything special for him, but he is still the leader of this defense and was 2nd in tackles in this game with 7 total tackles. There isn’t much to say about the defense as they’ve been the most consistent part of our team for about 2 years now.
All in all, the game yesterday surprisingly caught me off guard. I honestly didn’t hold my breath for a win this past Sunday. I still supported the 49ers all the way, but from how the season had been thus far I just didn’t expect much. So for us to be a game behind from first place (again) I think we can still make the playoffs. Even if we lose to San Diego on Thursday, and win the rest of the games we would be in the playoffs. It would be nice to get into the playoffs this season; Even if we don’t win a game in it.
