Why the 49ers need a great draft / free agency
It doesn't matter what position the 49ers are in the draft they need to have one of their best ones.
- First of all if they ever want tot be a good team they need to build with a very young and strong secondary.
- Vernon Davis Frank Gore Michael Crabtree Patrick Willis Etc. Are still young but are not going to be in there primes forever so we need to get good players fast. Because there will be needed time for all the pieces to fit in and everybody to get on the same page, so we can be good for a longer period of time.
- To be realistic I think Mike Singletary can be a coach of some kind, but I don`t think a head coach is the right fit for his talent. Maybe a positions coach or a coordinator. = GET A NEW COACHING STAFF WHERE NEEDED.
- I like Greg Manusky, but an upgrade would be ok if comes available. OC and HC are the main problems I think if we get a good balance of play-calling then we will be the team that we want. Mix up the blitzes that we bring and we can be where we want to be.
Here is what a lot of people want to talk about the QB situation. Your going to say a lot of things, but is Cam Newton really NFL ready, I think yes. For one reason accuracy. When you have a guy who can run and pass accurately. Its a great thing (Michael Vick)
So what does this all mean it means that if we can get an NFL ready QB that can run and some improvements to the O-line and secondary then we will be good. I am not saying Cam Newton maybe Jake Locker Ryan Mallet Kellen Moore, somebody that you can get without having to trade much value in doing so. Also making smart decisions with the picks and moves that we make!!!!!!!!!!! GO NINERS!!!!!!!!

fa/draft moves
We’ve actually drafted fairly well the last few years, and gotten quality players. We have netted some great FA pickups, such as Justin Smith and Takeo Spikes, and Ted Ginn was a good pickup, for special teams if nothing else. The big problem is the coaching staff and playcalling. Few adjustments are made and “rah-rah” coaches only make it so far. Teams that have had quick turnarounds (Chiefs/Rams/Bucs come to mind) have quality coaching staffs, especially the Chiefs. We need to look to a team like the Chiefs and take note. Even if we blow things up, we need to keep the schemes and systems similar, for continuity’s sake.
Good example with the Chiefs
It didn’t take Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis very long to figure out what Johnson and Manusky’s game plan would be and stuff it. What we’ve got are two coordinators and a head coach still feeling their way around at that level – none of them have a Plan B ready. Agree with Dilon that we need to do something now – we got Nate Clements in his prime and wasted what could have been his best years before we got some talent around him.

Nate Clements is a walking liability............
is an overpaid solid tackler, not a cover corner by any means.
if he is the #1 corner, this tam is in DEEP do do.
He's talking about when we signed him
We wasted his prime by not getting good enough players around him so when he fell back to the pack he wouldn’t be as big of a liability as he is.
raye was the OC that game.

I agree with most of your comments; however, I question the last ...
In my view the existing “schemes and systems” are wholely non-competitive. On offense, Raye’s “system” has NEVER been effective throughout all his years as an OC. Mike Johnson’s play-calling is certainly better that Raye’s, but he is still running Jimmy’s “system” and he lacks real imagination for two reasons: (1) it’s tough to be imaginative with antique components, and (2) Mike is still fearful of taking risks, as you would fully expect from a first-time OC. It takes time to develop guts and understand probabilities. If you want to see imaginative offensive play-calling and guts on display, watch Sean Payton.
On defense, I think that we face a lot of the very same issues. Manusky learned a lot from Wade Phillips but, again, he is a first-time DC. Like Mike Johnson, I think that he is still fearful of taking risks, pulling out the stops. He invariably makes that conservative call, which, from an OC’s perspective, is pretty easy to forecast, making it easier for the opponent to make a successful offensive play call. If you want to see defensive play-calling perfected to a science, watch Dick LaBeau’s defensive calls — Pittsburgh drafts very good players that fit Dick’s system, but his play-calling is as close to “magic” as I’ve EVER seen.
Accordingly, I think we need two things: (1) a coaching staff that does have modern “schemes and systems” AND the ability to teach same; and (2) both an OC and DC with significant NFL experience who have the wisdom and guts to make the not-so-predictable calls.

mj is hindered by sing as far as risk taking
we need a qb that can execute imaginative plays

It takes talent to take chances, LeBeau and Peyton have one of the most talented teams in regards tothat side of the ball.
We can’t use Westbrook like bush, and we shouldn’t talk about our defense vs Pittsburghs

we have talent on offense except for qb.

This entire topic is pointless...
as it applies to every team in the league. You need a great draft and FA period so you become more competitive every year, ultimately becoming good enough to win a Super Bowl. We’re not much different than any other team in the league, and a good coaching staff would do more for this team than the draft or FA could possibly acheive.
super amen
but in the response to the post, #3 should have been #1.
Bottom line? Any players the 49ers front office brings in will be ruined one way or another due to Coach Sing’s inability to coach. Just like there’s no way anyone can deny the fact that Alex sucks, there’s no way anyone can deny that Coach Sing is incompetent. Listen to that man’s monday press conferences for cryin’ out loud. If his press conferences doesn’t spell out stupid, I don’t know what does.
His excuse during post game interviews is that he needs to “watch film” before he can give an accurate response. Well, what excuse does he have for his poor monday showings? How did he ever become a motivational speaker?
Oh goodness… I need to stop. I’m being so mean right now.
