49ers-Packers Final Injury Report: Cheering For Jeff Reed? Really?
The San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers released their final injury reports today and it's safe to say the 49ers are a big banged up. Aside from Frank Gore's hip, the injury report goes beyond the usual probables this week. David Baas sat our Wednesday and Thursday practices, but then got limited work in today. Of all the day-to-day injuries, this one worries me the most. I'm really hoping he can go on Sunday.
The questionable list is filled out with Parys Haralson and Shawntae Spencer. Haralson actually sat out the entire week of practice, while Spencer followed Baas' practice pattern. One has to wonder how much of this is serious concern, and how much was given banged up players some time to get fresh given the short week. Initially I was concerned about these injuries, but as I think about it more and more, I'm hoping it has more to do with the short week.
The one injury that concerns me as much from a non-playing perspective as a playing perspective is Joe Nedney's knee. The team officially announced the signing of former Steelers kicker Jeff Reed. Although the team is getting a bit of a mixed bag with Reed, I'd have to imagine he's a better option than Shane Andrus. I wish Andrus could have succeeded but he really struggled in his limited time. However, the reason I'm really concerned is because of the fact that we kind of have to root for this guy (if you can't see it, do a google images search for Jeff Reed). If he kicks a game-winning field goal so be it, but I have to say that I'm hoping he's only around this week. Seriously, is he the missing cast member from Jersey Shore?
The injury report is after the jump...

you don't root for Reed...you don't yell "c'mon Jeff Reed!"
root for the field goal to be good. "C’mon Ball! Go through the uprights!"
I see a lot of confusion on the field. That's the worst part.

Spencer
I’m most concerned about this. Guys, realize Green Bay loves to go 4 and even 5 WR sometimes. If Tae can’t go that means Adams is Nickel and Brock is Dime. Unless Mays comes in as 3rd Safety over Brock…not sure which is better against Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy.

we need to stunt him more
he’s a beast, but doubled all game is not a good plan
Trust me, I have no idea either.

I am so glad the Niners decided to let Dre Bly go and sign Will James...
i mean who wouldn’t want a guy that has rarely been healthy and able to get on the field? lol
Is this the new Kicker?

dude just knows how to enjoy life
don’t be a hater…he’s a pretty damn good kicker (until this year)
He gets a bad rap for a couple things but he’s actually a relatively aware dude, and besides, aren’t kickers the drummer equivalent of the football world?
Actually..
drummers are the QB in any band, at least the great ones. We can at least coordinate all 4 limbs playing polyrhythmic phrasing in up tempo 19/16, while metrically modulating the time.

drummers are the O-Line in the band. You don’t notice them unless they are superb or elite, but if they suck, it’s pretty blatant and it ruins the rest of the team.

Drummers culturally..
led in Tribal Religious practices. In Africa, there is a Master drummer who is an Elder. In order to become a Master drummer, you would have to spend many years with the Elder drummer, and maintain his drums before even attpmeting to play them. Drums were and a form of communication. Contemporary music really doesn’t express the drums anymore, or else you would notice and recognize how the drummer didn’t setup the horn section properly with a Big Band.
Go look up drummers like Chick Webb, as well as a lot of the older drummers who played jazz and Big Band music. Webb’s band was one of the best of his era. He was not only the QB if the band, but it’s leader.

I'd say they're more like the tambourine player
If everything goes well, no one notices them. If they fall off beat they ruin the song. Laces out.
If you listen to the tambourine..
then you really should not post anything music related.

Apparently my phone spellcheck thinks “Cowbell” is supposed to be “Cornell”. LoL
That’s just hilarious to me.

In Latin Music..
you do need cowbell, especially for patterns to lock in the rest of the rhythm section. Tambourine is secondary to the bell pattern.
BTW, Walter Payton played drums. He started out as a drummer before he became a football player. He played drums all his life, and I remember watching a video clip of Payton slamming down some serious double kicks after her retired from football.

This comment totally took off on me. No disrespect to drummers (or drummer) intended, Keith Moon is my favorite person of all time
I'd agree that he was a pretty good kicker
He’s kicked game winning field goals in the play-offs and his field goals in the superbowl accounted for the steelers win margin. Maybe the release was all he needed as a wake up call.
Oh yeah I seen that guy on the Food Network
He’s pretty funny to watch actually. He’s always finding greasy diners that serve fried chicken, ribs and burgers. I’m getting hungry right now. Maybe he’ll cook up some good tailgating BBQ for us.
I lol'd

Darn you Singletary
Steelers fan here
Don’t be expecting Jeff “The Dispenser Slayer” Reed to make any FG’s from 40-49 yards. He’s oh-fer this year IIRC. Reed is also the Steelers points leader. Meaning he has scored more points than any other Steelers player. 50-54 yards, and 0-39 yards, they guy is $.
Maybe Singletary can do what Tomlin couldn’t: Keep his psychotic kicker in check.
Hope this gives you a ray of hope, be it a small one or not. :)

Who really cares about those 40-49 yarders…

Let's just punch it in!
I hope we don’t have to depend on our kickers, at least until Nedney gets back. Reed should be better than Andrus was this past season for us. Kindle
SO JEFF REED
likes to party.
He just parties a little different than we do.
