Should the 49ers trade for Asomugha???

What if? Now if you thought the headline was breaking news [howtheyscored changed it so you wouldn't be confused]. We have options this upcoming draft and trade-able players in Lawson, Jones and possibly Clements. As I read this article this morning, I started thinking about what to do with the 2 picks in the 1st round and possibly trade players.

Star-divide

I know naysayer may point to the fact that Al Davis will never trade his best player to the team across the bay, he's not crazy right?! Let me answer that right away... He's crazy, but it would make sense if he does make this trade with us. One would be the fact that the Jets are an AFC opponent and would only hinder their bid to play in another superbowl....hahahaha. Another reason would be our two picks in the first round. But the main reason this trade would make sense is money. Let's look at the facts the Raiders are hurting financially, they gave huge contracts to  Kelly, Russell, McFadden and Crabtree Heyward-Bey and have yet to get anything in return. Nnamdi would provide an instant return  The Raiders would possibly get 2 first rounds, a later pick and maybe 2 young players or even Clements. My question to you Niner nation, who and what picks would you give up to have Asomugha added to our D?

HAHAHA... I thought my headline would bring more attention to the poll

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

I just don’t want this thread to become 30 people saying “GOD I THOUGHT THIS WAS NEWS” instead of actually discussing the topic.

I’ve seen it happen.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

no worries...

2 1st rounders is too much

Seymore got 1 first rounder and that was a LOT. McNabb is pegged to only get a 2nd rounder and change. Boldin is a 2nd Rounder.

No way I trade more than 1 first rounder for him even though he is amazing. Sorry.

by hudd07 on Feb 2, 2010 2:07 PM PST reply actions

Semour is reaching his end of his career so I see your point, I think a 2nd rounder is too high for McNabb but that’s just me and Boldin, a 2nd round is fair.

But a 1st rounder this year and maybe a 3rd rounder would be good if we were to have a cover corner. Even though Clements has been a great niner, against the run, his coverage is suspect. I rather have Nnamdi and Spencer covering elite WRs.

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

by bayboy on Feb 2, 2010 3:00 PM PST up reply actions

I agree with you with McNabb, Seymour, and Boldin value.

The reason I brought it up is because all of your options to chose from in poll gave up both of our 1st rounders at the minimum except “other” choice, but that is vague, and doesn’t really assign a value.

It’s an interesting proposition though, but just iffy choices on poll. Maybe…

1. 1st and 3rd
2. 1st round
3. 2 first rounders
4. you are crazy, I don’t want Nmadi becauase I have a man crush on Spencer and Clements

by hudd07 on Feb 2, 2010 3:59 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah for sure. That would be so sick Namdi, Spencer, Goldson, and Berry sounds so good

49ers Al Grito De Guerra!!! hahaha

That with our front 7

I’d go so far to say best defense in league.

by hudd07 on Feb 2, 2010 4:25 PM PST up reply actions

Raiders have to want to part with him, and I highly doubt that will happen. He is too good at his position.

I'd part with a 1st rounder for him

but the Raiders won’t let him go. He’s one of the few great players they have available.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Feb 2, 2010 2:32 PM PST reply actions

… Since he showed interest in playing with the Jets, this might force the Raiders to move him to get a good trade and not renew his contract as the highest paid CB in the NFL.

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

by bayboy on Feb 2, 2010 3:06 PM PST up reply actions

I agree

I doubt the Raiders will let him go. Besides, at some point their will be a cap again. How much money will the 49ers have to shell out to resign him? I think the 49ers should use both 1st round picks to improve the line and then use the 2nd round pick on the secondary.

Don't trust this guy. He lies.

by urnext on Feb 2, 2010 10:43 PM PST up reply actions

yeah sure

If the Raiders decide to deal Nnamdi, they should get a ton for him. I just don’t particularly want the Niners to pay it.

by microwave donut on Feb 2, 2010 5:17 PM PST up reply actions

I would, however, deal our “shutdown corner” in Clements and his shutdown corner contract plus our 13th pick for Asomugha

Andy Lee for MVP! Hey, that rhymes...

by Ramah71 on Feb 2, 2010 7:55 PM PST up reply actions

too bad the Raiders wouldn’t

by microwave donut on Feb 2, 2010 11:34 PM PST up reply actions

Trade

a first and third for asomugha or a first and clements. Don’t know if Davis will bite, but maybe our 2011 first rounder for Asomugha if Davis gets desperate. The Raiders are the definition of the stupidest team in the world.

by Jayd92009 on Feb 2, 2010 4:43 PM PST reply actions

They just might spring for just a 1st rounder, his contract is massive and i’m sure Al wouldn’t mind if it dissappeared.

by Hoopers Judge on Feb 2, 2010 6:42 PM PST up reply actions

you are crazy

If Al is willing to pay Russell’s contract, or DHB, trust me Nmadi’s is NOT a big deal. He is the only guy on the team that deserves it.

by hudd07 on Feb 3, 2010 12:50 PM PST up reply actions

Raiders are one of the more financially secure teams in the league

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Feb 3, 2010 1:15 PM PST up reply actions

No reckless moves..

Did you guys see how they literally manhandled Peyton Manning? And Kurt Warner? I say let’s keep our roster intact except for additions of excellent draft picks, boosting the Offensive Line, Cornerback, Safety, and Kick Returner/RB positions. We need someone to push Coffee aside and find a slash-type runner to keep defenses defending against both Gore and a Spiller. Spill some coffee on opposing defenses!

by HuddleGenius on Feb 2, 2010 7:02 PM PST reply actions

I Agree !

No sense giving the farm away so soon. Keep all our draft picks and use it wisely. As far as Free agency, Do it right this time as last year was a major bust in picking quality players. When drafting Coffee, they got Decaf instead of Columbian. Still don’t understand their logic in their picks last year. What a wasted Draft !!!

by LASVEGASNINER on Feb 2, 2010 7:24 PM PST up reply actions

Crabtree, Davis, McKillop, and even Coffee weren’t wasted picks at all. I’ll agree that Coffee struggled a bit, but decaf can be pretty good when brewed right, don’t you think?

I’m kidding. I hate coffee. It’s too bitter for my “undeveloped” 13 year old palate. I’m not opposed to Coffee, however.

Andy Lee for MVP! Hey, that rhymes...

by Ramah71 on Feb 2, 2010 8:00 PM PST up reply actions

LOL good about coffee I needed that lollol.

49ers Al Grito De Guerra!!! hahaha

by 49erSalvatrucha on Feb 2, 2010 8:34 PM PST up reply actions

I don't like the bitter taste of coffee either

Absolutely love the smell of fresh coffee beans though and I don’t mind drinking “mixed” drinks (cappuccinos, lattes, mochas, etc).

mostly because they add so much sweetners that it cuts the acid (which is what provides the bitter taste).

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.

by smileyman on Feb 2, 2010 9:19 PM PST up reply actions

Decaf can taste good, but it doesn’t give you the kick – I want me something with espresso strength inside it. (That’s true for running backs as well)

As to Coffee, right now I’d say he isn’t worth beans. He might improve with better brewing (er, I mean, offensive line) but you would really have to add a lot of sugar and milk to make that option palatable to me.

Right, Ramah, 13 years old is too young to start drinking coffee. I started on a regular basis sometime between 16 and 17. And to connect it to the other famous off-topic: don’t start drinking coffee until you have to shave your beard.

by Rabbit T on Feb 2, 2010 11:49 PM PST up reply actions

Don't think it would take that much

reportedly he want to trade Asomugha to the Lions last year for Ernie Sims and a 3rd round pick. If we were to give up Lawson, Jones anad a 3rd possibly a 2nd I think he would take the deal.

by Diplitomus on Feb 3, 2010 6:37 AM PST reply actions

a 2nd rounder and lawson...

I would say make that deal yesterday… we’d be able to improve our OL in the first round and get a KR/PR in the third round and add depth all around the team in later rounds. I like the sound of that!

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

by bayboy on Feb 3, 2010 9:35 AM PST up reply actions

Would Do

But not for anything more than a 2nd and either Clements or Lawson. Preferebly Clements

"Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Cannot coach with them. Can't do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win!!!"

by nocal81(Vincent) on Feb 3, 2010 2:27 PM PST reply actions

But Again

If we did trade Lawson and kept Clements while signing Porter our back 8 would be darn amazing with

Porter
Willis
Spikes
Brooks
Asomugha
Clements/Spencer
Goldson
Lewis or FA/Draft pick

"Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Cannot coach with them. Can't do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win!!!"

+1

by bayboy on Feb 3, 2010 4:56 PM PST up reply actions

NO WAY

Al Davis is a maniac who demanded 2 firsts and 2 seconds from the bucs for his COACH! (granted i like gruden and for Tampa it was totally worth it) but Nmandi will NOT have that kind of impact with SF. 1 over priced Corner is enough.
This is beside the fact that I believe our back 4 should be:
SS-Gholdson [we HAVE to resign him, only Patrick willis is more valuable on Defense, i vote enxt season willis and gholdson are both captains]
FS Clements
CBs- Joe Haden (UF)[ Going to be an amazing cover corner in the league for years]
Tarrell Brown [excellent development in coverage throughout the season]
Shawntae Spencer (secret weapon to guard Larry Fitz)

by srDUBS on Feb 3, 2010 7:48 PM PST reply actions

I don’t think we have to worry about the cards anymore lol

49ers Al Grito De Guerra!!! hahaha

by 49erSalvatrucha on Feb 3, 2010 8:44 PM PST up reply actions

Hopefully so. i hope they fall completely apart this offseason

by srDUBS on Feb 3, 2010 9:14 PM PST up reply actions

Hopefully Haden is still there when we pick, I agree he could be a great cover corner… but I can’t see Clements playing any safety position. I like him more as a press corner than safety. Brown has potential to develop into a good corner but he’s going to need more coaching and time. Spencer is coming back from an injury and has played well but he’ll be a free agent soon, how much are you willing to spend to keep him around, he’s good but he’s no Asomugha,

But if Haden does not happen I don’t mind trading expensive and unproven talent (1st round draft pick) for a Superstar Corner… I would throw Brown, Lawson, Jones (WR) and even Clements on the potential people we can add to a trade for a chance to get Asomugha in a red and gold jersey.

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

by bayboy on Feb 4, 2010 12:17 PM PST up reply actions

Haden is not a very good prospect

He’s good in press coverage but his instincts aren’t very good.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Feb 4, 2010 1:59 PM PST up reply actions

On the contrary

I hope the Cradinals continue to improve, along with the Rams, and the Seahawks, because we play them six times a year, every year. That is good compitition to help make us better. If they all stayed sub-par our level of play would falter. Just look at the NFC East. Their worst team would dominate the NFC West exept for the 49ers of course. Giants,Eagles,Cowboys, and Redskins been getting quality regular seaon practice in against each other. They are all solid teams.(Food for thought).
As for Namdi Asomaghua, he comes with too big of a price. Believe it or not we are still rebuilding. We are not one Cornerback away from a title. we need so many pieces. I like Clements at either Safety position with Goldston. Spencer, and Brown with Bly, and some FA/Draft CB would be exellent.
I would prefer keeping Clements at Corner, and drafting USC SS Taylor “Ronnie Lott” Mays with the 13th pick. I have a gut feeling he will be great in San Fransisco. WE MUST GET HIM. Players like him are rare. We can get an O-Lineman with the second pick, or FA. I truthfully wouldn’t use any of those picks on the O-Line. There’s too many skill position players available….Peace…Stelf Bombz

The Redskins are not a solid team. Just because they have a crazy owner who makes all these free agent acquisitions that somehow always fail but still hype up the team doesn’t mean they’re good, or “decent.” They finished worse than the Raiders, Bills, and Browns this year. The NFC East is over-hyped because they’re all decent teams, and they play in the east. By the way, how’d those NFC East teams do in the postseason? Well, they played each other in the Wild Card, then the better team got demolished by the Vikes 34-3.

Trust me, learning english isn’t a waste of time. It is actually sort of useful.

Redskins have a pretty good defense

lousy offense though. Giants play better than they are. They’re still riding the hype from their Super Bowl win. Eagles and Cowboys are both really good teams. In my opinion the AFC North is the toughest division in football right now.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
