Golden Nuggets: Vernon Davis, curling motivator extraordinaire

Ninjames has a few things he's taking care of today, so I thought I'd dive in and handle the Nuggets for a day.  For those that don't remember, a while back we mentioned that Vernon Davis was named honorary captain of the US Olympic Curling team.  Until recently this job consisted mostly of running PSAs for the sport to get more folks interested.  Davis has added a couple new duties to that now that the Olympics are underway.  Davis recently gave a pep-talk to the team and it might have helped, as yesterday they got their first win of the games.  I can only imagine what that talk was like from Mr. Click-Clack.

I'm at the Winter Olympics ...

… on work business, which is why I haven’t been commenting here at all in the last few weeks (wait – you didn’t notice? You didn’t mourn my absence? Oh thanks, guys, thanks a lot …) I want to go down and grab Vernon if I get a chance. Go Vernon, go USA, go GB, go Canada (and all that).

I did notice.

I thought you abandoned me, and quite honestly the Nuggets became a much darker, horrid place and I considered giving them up. :[ Don’t leave me LondonNiner.

Keep the Nuggets going ...

… You’re not my type, dude – you’re male, and American ;)

I understand.

I prefer good dental hygiene.

And I hope we’re close enough at this point where I can totally joke about that because saying “and American” pretty much said “oh and all of their stereotypes you fat lazy idiot.”

Gonna go cry now, by the way.

ha ha ...

… you know that I don’t take anything seriously, mate, and love you all very much on this website. I don’t think you’re a fat idiot, and I actually do have incredibly bad teeth ;)

It's all good

I’ve only recently begun fixing up my teeth. Also, you just called me lazy in a round-about way.

Looks like Vernon is making a difference

The U.S. men just won their 2nd in a row. Don’t go anywhere Vernon, the women are up next and they need two in a row!

I gotta admit, the Japanese women curlers are almost enough to get me to take up curling. The Japanese idea to take the over-the -hill members of the gymnastics team and turn them into curlers is a huge step forward for the evolution of the sport imo.

The Russian skip ...

… is meant to be the most attractive girl in the Olympics. Personally, I think that is a sleight on Great Britain’s Chemmy Alcott …

If it's the same person I'm thinking of

Chemmy is a really good looking girl. Very young though (I think she’s only 19). Cheryl Bernard of Canada is gorgeous. More my age too, I think she’s 43. There’s a brunette on the Danish team who is rather stunning. A couple of the U.S. ladies are also pretty fine, but one is married with two kids and the other is engaged. Can you all tell I’ve been watching a little too much?!? :P

by Mangoman on Feb 20, 2010 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

It's scary how the Danish team all look like Courtney Love.

  • BTW correction of my statement about the Japanese team being gymnasts> I looked over the NBC transcript and the announcers I heard saying that were actually talking about the Chinese team (during the Japan/Canada match).

LOL

Yeah, kind of the dumb blonde rocker look. There’s one in particular. In last night’s match against Canada, she was so made up it looked like she was gonna go partying after the match. But the brunette on the Danish team is hot. Wait I said that already. :)

Oops wrong

Chemmy is an alpine skier. The one I was thinking of is Eve Muirhead.

Right - Eve is a child ...

… but Chemmy is all woman

OMG

All I can say is TALLY HO!

Yeah she’s quite a lady. Athletic, tough, beautiful, pretty well spoken, what more do you want? I think the comment about her bottom did it for me though. :P
