DB in Free Agency? Or wait for the draft?
Just a thought, but should we be trying to spend some of our cap to get a DB before the draft? ESPN just reported that Dunta Robinson from Houston and Leigh Bodden from New England won't be franchise tagged this year.
Should we try to maybe try to get a proven DB such as Bodden or Robinson? Or should we still wait and try to get someone early in the draft? Or both?
I, for one, would love to see us try to go after Robinson. If I'm not mistaken, we have plenty of cap room, so we could definitely afford to go after one of them. I know we still need to lock up Willis and Davis long term (right?), but we still have money we could use in FA. Just wondering about what everybody else thinks.

And I do realize most of our draft talk is about us taking a safety....
but our CB situation could use a boost. Robinson in SF would make me very, very, happy.
If Oakland really considers making Nnamdi available I’d give up one of the 1st rounders for him.
Thing A
I'd have to think long and hard about it
but getting one of the top CBs in the league would be nice. I can’t believe he only got signed for three years for that kind of money.
He’s said he’s interested in playing for the Jets. Can you imagine him and Revis on the same team? Ouch.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
Dunta Robinson ...
Had a really bad year. He’s worth a flier though, but not at the price he thinks he’s worth.
bodden please
why would they he got torched in detriot and in new england he hasnt vplayed good since cleveland and dunta robinson is looking 4 clement money
please
Nnamdi is all hype 2 me honestly i dont know why more QBees dont attack him and where cool at CB we need a safety and a DE lets get pepper we can give carolina 2rd pick 4 him and sopaga and 2 bologna sandwiches.
What?
Nnamdi is NOT hype.. QB’s don’t go after him mostly because his man is completely covered… He’s a class act playing on a disgraced franchise and has done nothing but bring it every game. Peppers is the opposite, always complaining wanting media attention.
I would much rather give up a 1st round pick for Nnamdi than a second round pick and 2 "bologna sandwiches’’ for Peppers.
What makes you think Nnamdi is all hype?
Personally I think Nnamdi is better than Revis.

Revis may have had a better season this year
but Nnamdi has been better for longer.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
First Off
Cap room doesn’t really matter if there is no CBA. Secondly, the free agent options are incredibly limited as many possible unrestricted free agents would be off the market without a CBA. I would love to go after Asamghua, he would be a great fit a long with Brown and Spencer, though he would cost something in return. In terms of the safety position, i really think the 49ers should consider taking one of the many quality players at that position in the draft, the least of which would be Nate Allen from South Florida, who i think is going to be a great pro. If we move Goldson to the strong side, draft a free safety and sign an okay safety such as Sean Jones or Josh Bullocks for the short term, that would fix our issues at safety. Either way i say release Michael Lewis

I dont think it would be a good idea to switch Goldson to SS
he played really well at the end of the season but it took him a while forget everything he learned from, watching Mark Roman play. Why not just draft a SS?
Go 49ers
I meant to include
that this would be barring a hold out, and getting a new CBA in line with what we have now.
I don’t want to try to understand how it would work, so I was gonna keep it in terms of how the NFL is currently.
And the #3/4 CB has a lot of potential

Is it me......
Or am I the only one that is considering us stealing Darren Sharper from N.O. A report came out that they are letting him “test the market” and Darren Sharper commented that from his experience, if a team is willing to let you test the market, they are willing to let you go as well. Just something to consider….wouldn’t you want Sharper in the Niners secondary?
I wouldn’t mind

Interesting
And I think I’ve bounced around between yes and no a number of times in my own head over the past two minutes LOL

I wouldn't want him
He’s not a coverage safety. He’s the guy who will gamble and sometimes come up big and sometimes not.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
I'd be pretty happy if the Niners made a run at Nnamdi
Hes the most consistent corner in the league IMO. Revis may have had one monster year, but Nnamdi has been a shutdown corner pretty much since hes come into the league. But im sure it would cost more then just a 1st rounder, just based on the guys talent level. He would shut down a whole side of the field and make the SS issue a little less of a problem.
Imagine Nnamdi, Spencer, Goldson, and maybe Berry…. damn that sounds so legit assuming we trade Clements for Nnamdi and a pick

why not both.....
Just a thought to spread out. since we have 2 first rd picks….lets go for the stars. Trade 1 to Oakland for Nnamdi, then in the draft….(wait for it………..)pick up MYRON ROLLE of flo. State. First off….he’s not rated that high in this years draft, so we might not even have to use our top pick on him. Second is his work ethic. The guy is a beast in the study dept. as his Rhodes scholorship clearly outlines. so, even ifhe isn’t great off the bat, his upside is unfathomable. So chew on having to face this outfit: Nnamdi, Nate, Goldson, Rolle….Not a usual day at the office.

What's the situation on free agent safeties?
I remember Collins, Atogwe, Bethea all being theoretically available (but not if they are UFA or RFA), but considered unlikely to be let go by their current clubs.
I could see, with the two first picks, taking a standout RFA, but it depends on who that is.
