Carolina loses coin flip: 49ers to pick 17th
Given that tails never fails, I'm guessing either Tennessee chose tails or Carolina chose heads. Whatever the case, the 49ers second pick will be 17th in the 2010 NFL Draft.
In other results, Jacksonville won the toss between them and Chicago (Denver holds this pick) and Atlanta won versus Houston. The revised draft order is after the jump.
1. St. Louis (1-15)
2. Detroit (2-14)
3. Tampa Bay (3-13)
4. Washington (4-12)
5. Kansas City (4-12)
6. Seattle (5-11)
7. Cleveland (5-11)
8. Oakland (5-11)
9. Buffalo (6-10)
10. Jacksonville (7-9)
11. Chicago (7-9) (Traded to DEN)
12. Miami (7-9)
13. San Francisco (8-8)
14. Denver (8-8) (Traded to SEA)
15. New York Giants (8-8)
16. Tennessee (8-8)
17. Carolina (8-8) (Traded to SF)
18. Pittsburgh (9-7)
19. Atlanta (9-7)
20. Houston (9-7)
21. Cincinnati (10-6)
22. New England (10-6)
23. Green Bay (11-5)
24. Philadelphia (11-5)
25. Baltimore (9-7)
26. Arizona (10-6)
27. Dallas (11-5)
28. San Diego (13-3)
29. New York Jets (9-7)
30. Minnesota (12-4)
31. Indianapolis (14-2)
32. New Orleans (13-3)

booo
now we’ll have to wait an additional 15 minutes to hear our second first round pick on draft night.
But they'll pay less $
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Dang, Carolina just never really wanted to help us out, did they? First, they go from a team looking like they could finish 4-12 to actually playing well and finishing 8-8 (and with a worse pick than us). And then they couldn’t even win us a coin flip! Just sticking it to the Niners all season long! Relentless…

I think it was an inside job and I want an investigation!
But seriously, it could end up being an opportunity. They could decide to trade down and pick up an extra pick in the earlier rounds.
I guess Carolina doesn't want to do any favors for it's old division rival.
It sucks that we didn’t get 16 but oh well. I just can’t wait for draft day.
mike iupati pick 17, why I think it's right
We need a tough MaFa, this dude adds it. IDK, if a true RT lands great, but this dude looks like a real NFL player. Now, I admit, I am watching both the NFL network shows, top 10 draft busts and top 10 rookie seasons, along with some beers, but man, I got to say this guy looks like a brick shiat house.
He could be, but
I think it will really depend on what he shows at the combine. He didn’t do all that much justice for himself at the senior bowl. Some holes in his pass blocking skills were exposed. He does do a remarkable job at manhandling guys at run blocking, but he needs to show something more in the big picture to warrant a 1st rd pick. We may still be able to get him even if we were to trade down the 17th pick & get an extra early round pick somewhere.

I really like him to, he could be a great pick up at either RT or OG.
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
If Iupati were to play T
it would likely be RT because it’s the side he already plays on, but I can’t see him being played at T for a while. He’s got some issues he needs to work on at his natural position that came up during the Senior Bowl. Granted is was just one game, but he did play against potential NFL players with experience. I would guess that David Baas will not be given anything better than a 2nd round tender and if he gets an offer sheet it will not be matched. With that in mind it gives good reason for the possibility of picking him up.
He did play RG in the Senior Bowl, it was just on today and I got to catch some of it. He definitely didn’t look so great in it though

That may have been it
I know they were trying him out in drills at LT and RT, but his natural position (or at least the one he played at Idaho) is LG.
Doesn’t mean he can’t make the transition to RT though. I think he’s got the size, strength and quickness to do that if a team is willing to give him a couple of seasons to learn it.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
Me too
he’d be an incredible asset on the left side. Just saying I think he could move over if he had a couple of seasons to learn.
