Al Davis West ?

McCloughan could fall into the Al Davis trap

We all know Al Davis's penchant for drafting athletes instead of football players. Often it seems that he bypasses true football talent in order to take players with high measureables ie: "athleticism, speed " instead of looking for those players with true game ability, heart, and high football intelligence!!  We've seen that  play out in draft after draft , and as a result , they've been bottom feeders in the NFL for many years. Now I don't think that McCloughan is off the deep end like Davis, Al lives on his own planet !

But, when you will eliminate so many solid prospects from consideration because they may be an inch ortwo short, or a few pounds less than the norm. you make the same mistakes Davis makes but with a different  set of measureables .    Scott says he wants a certain criteria which seems to be " big" players, (height , weight),  instead of Al's (athleticism, speed). The difference being Davis, will only " target " certain measureables , while McCloughan will " eliminate" all those that don't align with his own  set of measureables!   Both fall into the same trap but on different ends of the spectrum.  Players "skill , tenacity , and heart " should  be foremost in considering  a prospect.  Games are more often than not  decided by those with  relentlessness, guts , and toughness (  " heart"  } in the fourth quarter, and that is not limited by shirt size ! ( It's not the size of the dog in a fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog) !!!

Bottom line is , I would hate to see us pass up  players as naturally gifted and explosive as Brandon Graham, Dexter McCluster , C. J. Spiller and on and on , ( Deshonne Jackson comes to mind), because they don`t measure up to an arbitrary standard of size. A size  set by Ron Wolfe, and adopted by Scott McCloughan !!!   I want the "best " [ football players] on our team regardless of size !!!
