Official NN User Mock Draft Thread 2.0 (02/07/10)
Here's the new draft thread guys. Rec it up so we can keep the discussion going.
1. ST. LOUIS RAMS
St. Louis (1-15) - Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska- The Rams will have a hard time pondering this pick until they look at their options of a QB of the future. Hands down the most dominate interior lineman out of this draft. Defense wins championships, wait, according to the Superbowl it's false, but according to the Jets it would be best to put one together until another Manning comes along. (rlott#42)
1. RAMS Ndamukong Suh, DT (smileyman)
The Rams have two glaring needs this offseason. One is at the QB spot. One is on their defense. My guess is that they find a QB in the offseason to act as a stopgap while they fix their other problems, especially since their head coach is a former defensive cooridinator. In this draft there are two clear consenus picks for best overall players. The first is a boy named Suh, and the second is Eric Berry. No safety has ever been drafted in the top 5 of the draft, and this year will not be the year that it happens. The Rams have a fairly solid defensive line, and by adding Suh they will dramatically increase their ability to apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks which will in turn help out their secondary immensely.
1. St. Louis (1-15 Ndamukon Suh, DT-Nebraska (chikmagnet_565)
I believe the Rams currently have the worst QB situation in the NFL. Free Agency, however, hasn't started yet. So we don't know what the Rams will do about their QBs.
Will they select one with the No.1 overall pick? Possibly.
Will they acquire one through a trade? Possibly
Will they pick up a FA QB? Possibly. With that said, the only thing I can do here is give them the BPA that gives them the most value. And that's Suh (although I believe Eric Berry may be a better football player, Ndamukong Suh gives them more value).
1, Rams -- Ndamukong Suh DT (Drew K)
This pick will be the one that doesn't move for me. Suh will be signed before the draft even kicks off. Spagnualo likes his defensive line and he's going to love it with Suh.
2. DETROIT LIONS
Detroit (2-14) - Russell Okung LT Oklahoma St.- The Lions have a 70 million dollar Qb, that finished his season on the IR. They also have a defense that can't stop the run or pass. This pick coul be McCoy or Berry, but I think the hits to a highly paid Qb would be the first issue to address, especially since Okung seems to be a sure fire LT. (rlott#42)
2. LIONS Gerald McCoy, DT (smileyman)
The Lions have struggled mightily over the past decade, but I think they're starting to move in the right direction. Their offense has shown that it has the ability to put up big points, and I think that Stafford can become a big star in the league. The kid is tough and plays with grit, something that I think few of us thought he would do. Drafting McCoy will immediately improve their run defense as well as help out their secondary.
2. Detroit (2-14) Gerald McCoy, DT-Oklahoma (chikmagnet_565)
The Lions just gave Matt Stafford a $70 million contract. You'd think that they want to select a LT to help protect their investment, right? Wrong. The Lions are inept (shocking) and they believe that Jeff Backus is actually a good football player (they gave him a beefy 6 year, $40 million contract in 2006). They even selected Brandon Pettigrew over Michael Oher last year. Unfortunately Matt Stafford will continue to get pounded for the foreseeable future. At least they're still getting a good player in Gerald McCoy though, perhaps he'll help them go from being the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL to 31st?
2. Lions -- Gerald McCoy DT (Drew K)
McCoy is not a Ndamukong Suh, but who really is? McCoy is very talented in his own right but for whatever reason hasn't received the same "hype" that Suh has. The Lions will see past this and be very pleased with this pick.
3. TAMPA BAY BUCS
Tampa Bay (3-13) - Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma - Arguably on the same level as Suh, however, he did not almost single handedly make McCoy whiff on the Heisman trophy. The Buccs have not had a presence on the defensive line since Sapp. The scheme is the same, but the defense is not getting it done. Eric Berry could be an option here, but when the Buccs were on top the DL could not be replaced, the DB's, however, could have been. (rlott#42)
3. BUCS Derrick Morgan, DE (smileyman)
I originally had the Bucs picking Okung here because I thought they needed upgrades on their line. While they do need some upgrades there, they've actually got a fairly solid line with two young tackles who are improving. Football Outsiders actually ranks the Bucs offensive line better than ours for run blocking (we're ranked 32nd, they're ranked 29th), and much better at pass blocking (we're ranked 24th in pass blocking, they're ranked 11th.). Their pass defense is middle of the league but their run defense is horrid, giving up almost 160 yards per game on the ground. Derrick Morgan will be an instant upgrade for them and should provide a dramatic help in their run defense.
3. Tampa Bay (3-13) Eric Berry, S-Tennessee (chikmagnet_565)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are incredibly stupid. They had their season victory (vs. GB) already and were just about ready to lock up the No.1 overall draft pick which they would have used to select Ndamukong Suh. This would have given them the best player in the draft while addressing their No.1 need. Unfortunately they decided to pull off two meaningless victories and they ended up with the 3rd overall pick. Now they aren't even going to get Gerald McCoy. I blame Raheem Morris for realizing he was about to be fired and pulling of a few victories to save his own [site decorum]. Way to screw the franchise over Morris, you [site decorum]! Anyways, in this mock they are forced to select Eric Berry which will make NFL draft history (no safety has ever been drafted higher than No.5 overall). Eric Berry isn't a bad player, don't get me wrong, but he won't provide the same impact a guy like McCoy or Suh could.
3. Bucs -- Russell Okung OL (Drew K)
Freeman struggled to stay in the pocket and deliver passes on time and accurately. Okung will help build the confidence of the young talented Quarterback.
4. WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Washington (4-12) - Bruce Campbell LT Maryland- Shanahan has a decision to make concerning Campbell at QB. I think the Skins will use the franchise tag on him, however that could bring a huge 1 year price for an avarage QB. I also don't think Mike will reach for any QB in this draft and I think D LeFevour will be the QB he likes most. So, the skins will shore up the LT position, with Samuels not as durable as he has been. (rlott#42)
4. REDSKINS Russel Okung, OT (smileyman)
The Redskins have shown flashes of greatness but haven't been able to do anything consistently. They have a pretty good defense, but sorely need help on the offensive side of the ball. I originally had them picking Clausen here but I think they stick with Campbell for one more year (he'll be an RFA this year). I suspect they'll still have a top 10 pick next year and so can grab a QB next year. Levi Jones is in his 8th season, and Mike Williams is a converted guard. They could use a stud LT.
4. Washington (4-12) Jimmy Clausen,QB-Notre Dame (chikmagnet_565)
This pick was tough. I think it will be more clear once FA starts. If Shanahan decides to keep Jason Campbell as his QB then this pick will probably be an OT. If Shanahan doesn't feel Campbell will be an effective QB for him then this pick will be either Jimmy Clausen or Sam Bradford. I'm giving Clausen the edge here because he played in a pro offense at Notre Dame (led by a current NFL coach). He will transition into Shanahan's offense easily, IMO. Why do I think he's a good fit for Shanahan's offense? Well, he has a very strong arm and puts a lot of heat on his short/intermediate throws (while maintaining his accuracy) and he's mobile enough out of the pocket to extend some plays (remind you of anyone?).
4. Redskins -- Eric Berry SS (Drew K)
Berry is the missing link to the Redskins having one of the best, if not the best, secondary in the NFL. Their current Strong Safety situation is hurting. Berry will be the BPA here for the Skins and Shanahan will pull the trigger. Campbell will more than likely be the starter in Washington one more year.
5. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Kansas City (4-12) - Dan Williams NT Tennessee- In a previous mock, I had mount Cody going to the Chiefs, I think it is pitiful when a no name RB from the Browns carves your defense up for almost 300 yards. Williams can anchor the NT position for years to come. (Trading down is my number 1 option, with Cody's stock plummiting) (rlott#42)
5. CHIEFS Eric Berry, S (smileyman)
The Chiefs have struggled all around. They need help on the offensive line, they need an inside linebacker, and they need a safety. I think they reach for the best safety in this year's draft class, and one of the best defensive players to come out in years.
5. Kansas City (4-12) Russell Okung, OT-Oklahoma State (chikmagnet_565)
I'm very shaky with this selection. The Chiefs selected Branden Albert with the 15th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. He hasn't exactly panned out (to say the least). He seemed to improve late in the season however 2 of the last four games the Chiefs played were against the Bills and the Browns (not exactly tough opponents). We all know that the Chief's signing of Matt Cassell was a huge mistake, but that mistake will cost them $63 million. They're going to have to protect that money.Perhaps they'll move Albert to RT and put Okung at LT?
5. Chiefs -- Rolando McClain LB (Drew K)
The Butkus Award Winner is like having a coach on the field for the defense. The Chiefs defense lost them a few games this past season and there is not really a true leader on the defensive side of the ball. McClain will step in and give them that fire on defense a team needs to make the playoffs.
6. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Seattle (5-11)- Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame- Pete Carrol would love to have Clausen fall in his lap at this selection. A no brainer for a new coach that wants to implement a new system. (rlott#42)
6. SEAHAWKS Joe Haden, CB (smileyman)
Like us the Seahawks have the luxury of two 1st round draft picks, and they're going to desperately need them. They have the 30th ranked passing defense. Their run defense is decent but the pass defense is killing them. They have issues on offense too. Hasselbeck is getting old and they don't have a replacement for him. Their line struggles as well (25th in running, 22nd passing). With the first pick here they grab a player that can help out in their secondary where they have needs at nearly every position.
6. Seattle (5-11) Sam Bradford, QB-Oklahoma (chikmagnet_565)
The Seahawks have 4 glaring needs: Offensive Tackle, Quarterback, Defensive end, and Running back (probably in that order). I don't feel any OT available here is currently worth the 6th overall pick. This could certainly change after the combine, but for now I'll give them Sam Bradford. I don't know how Pete Carroll feels about Sam Bradford, but we should probably know, as some inside info is released as we approach the draft. Derrick Morgan was also considered here but I feel his stock was hurt quite a bit when he was dominated by both Bryan Bulaga and Tony Moeaki (a TE) in the Orange Bowl.
6. Seahawks -- Jimmy Clausen (Drew K)
Clausen makes the most sense here... Bradford is a spread-style Quarterback and the one thing we know about Carroll is that he tried very hard to stay away from "spread-ball" when he coached at USC. With Hasselbeck getting old and brittle, Clausen will be the best fit for the Hawks number one pick.
7. CLEVELAND BROWNS
Cleveland (5-11) - Eric Berry S Tennessee - Cleveland will either select the BPA or the best WR on the board. With Berry falling here and the draft deep wih WR's the Browns choose to bolster their passing defense with the pick. (rlott#42)
7. BROWNS Dez Bryant, WR (smileyman)
The Browns have issues everywhere, but especially on offense. Their starting QB only completed 53% of his passes, their starting WRs are Mike Furrey and Mohamed Massaquoi. Their offensive line is actually pretty good, and Quinn is only in the 3rd year of his contract. I think that Holmgren will give him another chance, and he'll draft some help on the offensive side of the ball.
7. Cleveland (5-11) Dez Bryant, WR-Oklahoma State (chikmagnet_565)
This pick could go a variety of ways. The Browns aren't very good at anything. They have a great LT in Joe Thomas and a monster NT in Shaun Rodgers, other than those two? Not much else (perhaps CB Eric Wright deserves some mention but I don't think he's THAT good). What do the Browns need? Some WRs could help, perhaps some more help on the defensive line, some secondary help, a pass rusher would also be nice. It came down to Dez Bryant and Joe Haden for me. Personally, I don't think much of either player....but I'm not the one making the selection. I'll give them Bryant for now because they have ZERO talent at WR right now (I'll probably change this selection the next time I update though).
7. Joe Haden CB (Drew K)
Haden in most people's minds is a top 10 pick. The only way I can see him living up to that status is by him being drafted by the Browns. With Mangini seemingly toward the end of the year having the ability to rally the troops, and Holmgren looking over his shoulder, Haden could end up the CB that some people feel he can be.
8. OAKLAND RAIDERS
Oakland (5-11) -Carlos Dunlap DE Florida- Al Davis strikes again, the athletic ability of Dunlap will have Davis salivating at his potential, but potential is all he is, another flopper for Davis. (rlott#42)
8. RAIDERS Taylor Mays, S (smileyman)
Lots of failed QB experiments in this draft. Jamarcus Russell's time in Oakland has come to an end. Gradowski played very good for them before he got hurt and I expect that they'll offer him the starting job next year and either draft a QB in the later rounds to be backup or give Charlie Frye that role. The biggest need for the Raiders (besides a new owner) is in their secondary. Taylor Mays is the perfect fit for them. He's hard hitting, exciting to watch and a big risk taker. If he has a great combine there's no way Al can pass up on him.
8. Oakland (5-11) Bruce Campbell, OT-Maryland (chikmagnet_565)
This pick was incredibly easy to make. The Raiders have a need at LT, Bruce Campbell is considered the Vernon Davis of Offensive Tackles. Learn how to draft for Al Davis: I'm including this because some fans seem to have trouble drafting for the Raiders. Al Davis always drafts need over BPA and he drafts the most athletic (fast) guys that fill his needs. LT is a need, who is the most athletic LT? Campbell, easy. Next.
8. Raiders -- Bruce Campbell (Drew K)
The Raiders need to keep their Quarterback upright no matter who it is next season. Their offensive line struggled last year and if their was a "mold" for any Raiders player, Campbell would fit perfectly. He is athletic and does well in run and pass blocking both.
9. BUFFALO BILLS
Buffalo (6-10) - Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma - This player was not expected to fall here, however in my mock he did just that. The Bills need a new QB. The OL has had it's shares of issues, but they started 5 players with less than a full season of experience between them, and were not last in pass protection. They will address the OL issues at a later pick with Bradford waiting to be chosen. (rlott#42)
9. BILLS Sam Bradford, QB (smileyman)
Neither Trent Edward nor Ryan Fitzpatrick are the answer at QB fo the Bills. They need help on their offensive line as well but this draft is deep enough that they can get someone in the later rounds. They pick up a QB and hope he can be their guy for the future.
9. Buffalo (6-10) Anthony Davis, OT-Rutgers (chikmagnet_565)
It seems Ralph Wilson has finally realized that being cheap isn't going to win him a Superbowl. He has vowed to do whatever it takes to make the Bills champions. Unfortunately guys like Bill Cowher and Mike Shanahan wanted nothing to do with him and his lousy franchise. He had to settle for Chan Gailey (the guy that was fired by the Chiefs in the pre-season this year). The Bills have a dire need for a QB, unfortunately all the good QBs are off the board at this point. They could also use a pass rusher, some DT/DE help, a WR, or an OT. Their DC position is currently vacant so we don't know if they'll run a 4-3 or a 3-4. This makes it tough to give them a pass rusher or a DT/DE. Which is too bad because I really want to give them Derrick Morgan but I feel that he's better suited to play in the 4-3. I decided to reach for an OT in Anthony Davis because I just don't know what the Bills are planning to do. Davis is a pretty good OT so they aren't getting a terrible player or anything like that. Feel free to give me tips as to where I should go with this selection because I'm completely baffled.
9. Bills -- Dez Bryant WR (Drew K)
With rumors flying around the rumor mill that TO wants to leave to go to the Bengals and Ralph Wilson only spending 1st round picks on QB's three times in the lonnng time (since the 70's) that he has owned them, I think they'll persue Vick in free agency since he can get cheap and be happy with a young WR like Bryant to compliment Lee Evans.
10. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Jacksonville^ (7-9) - Derrick Morgan DE G Tech - The Jags could easily go with Haden at this pick, but if they think like I do, they will have players like Ghee, Warren, Cox, and Wilson waiting in the 2nd round. Morgan is the best pass rushing DE or th 4-3 setting and will go to the Jags. (rlott#42)
10. Jacksonville Earl Thomas S (smileyman)
Surprisingly Jackonsville has a top 10 offensive line, though their pass protection leaves much to be desired. The team ranks 9th in the league in rushing (hello MJD), but 19th in passing. Their defense is awful though, particularly against the pass. I originally had them taking Tim Tebow for the tickets he can sell (and they might still go that way), but I think they upgrade their defense here. Earl Thomas will provide some much needed help in the secondary.
10. Jacksonville (7-9) Derrick Morgan, DE-Georgia Tech (chikmagnet_565)
It's no secret that the Jaguars need a pass rusher. They had 14 sacks as a team. OUCH! Morgan makes perfect sense here. Tim Tebow people: While I do believe that Tim Tebow would bring a lot of $ to Jacksonville, I just don't see the Jaguars wasting a top 10 pick on Tebow (who's looking terrible at the Senior Bowl so far) when they can take a great talent like Morgan.
10. Jags-- Anthony Davis OL (Drew K)
The Jags had a very tough time keeping Garrard upright but when they did, he did very well. If they can get and edge on that Oline, it will help MJD and Garrard be more effective.
11. DENVER BRONCOS
Denver - from Chicago^ (7-9) Rolando McClain - The new anchor of the middle of the field for the Broncos defense. I expect McDaniels to go with a new QB in this draft, but I think this is too high for Pike or Lefevour. (rlott#42)
11. BRONCOS FROM BEARS (6-9) Rolando McLain, LB (smileyman)
The Broncos are pretty set at offense. Kyle Orton won't end up in the Hall of Fame but he's a solid starter for them. Their offensive line is the best in the league, and any RB they draft will have great numbers behind it. They've got some great receivers as well. Where they really struggle is their defense, particularly their run defense. They run a 3-4 so I debated about giving them Terrence Cody, but Ronald Fields has been playing pretty good for them at NT. I think they improve their linebackers by picking up the best LB in the draft. McLain already plays 3-4 so won't have to adjust any and he's terrific against the run.
11. Denver - from Chicago (7-9) Rolando McClain, ILB-Alabama (chikmagnet_565)
The fact that Dez Bryant is off the board makes this selection much easier. Andra Davis is getting old and he's just not that effective anymore. The Denver Bronco's biggest weakness is stopping the run, McClain may be able to help. A DE could also be an option here, but they can't go in that direction without reaching.
11. Broncos -- Brandon Spikes LB (Drew K)
The Broncos would have rather had McClain with this pick but in my mock, with him going to the Chiefs, they will be happy enough to take Spikes here as well.
12. MIAMI DOLPHINS
Miami (7-9) - Brandon Graham OLB Michighan - A No brainer for the Dolphins. They have youth at a lot of positions on defense except for OLB. The Backers at the position now include Jason Taylor and the disgruntled Joey Porter. Porter can still be productive, but Parcells will not put up with the attitude that doesn't focus on team. Besides Graham has appeard to be monsterous and will ease the mind of the Dolphins for releasing Porter. (rlott#42)
12. MIAMI Bradon Graham OLB/DE (smileyman)
With Joey Porter making noises about wanting to leave Miami, and Jason Taylor getting up their in age Miami is going to be in a quandray in their OLB spots. Graham is a great pass rusher and a ferocious tackler and will provide immediate talent and youth at those positions.
12. Miami (7-9) Dan Williams, NT-Tennessee (chikmagnet_565)
Mike Nolan is cursing the Broncos for taking McClain right now. Williams is still a good pick though, Jason Ferguson is 35 and I think it would be wise to draft his replacement with this pick. A lot of people have the Dolphins taking a WR but I just don't see the Dolphins reaching for a WR right here when they can select a great player in Dan Williams (if Dez Bryant was available it would be a bit more interesting).
12. Dolphins -- Jason Pierre-Paul DE/ OLB (Drew K)
With a few pieces seemingly wanting to leave Miami, the Dolphins will need to replace them. Jason Taylor and Joey Porter may not be there next year and the Fins will needs to replace the pass rush if they do. JPP is probably the best pass rusher entering the draft this year.
13. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
San Francisco (8-8) Dez Bryant WR Ok St. The only thing that will make this pick change is if Bryant has the same agent as Crabtree. The Niners will now have young weapons at the WR position and will not have to make selections here for a loooong time. This is going to open things up for everyone on the field and make Smith's life easy. (Earl Thomas could also be the pick) (rlott#42)
13. SAN FRANCISCO CJ Spiller, RB (smileyman)
Scot McCloughan has stated that his drafting philosophy is BPA, and Spiller is arguably the best player on the board at this point. With two first round picks the 49ers have the option of spending a luxury pick and drafting for need. They pick up Spiller as a complementary back to Gore as well as to provide valuable assistance in the KR and PR games.
13. San Francisco (8-8) Bryan Bulaga, OT-Iowa (chikmagnet_565)
I really hate picking for the 49ers because the fan in me always gets in the way of seeing things as they are. I'm trying to look at this mock draft from a GM/Head Coach's perspective so I can get a better idea of what the pick may be. That said, I feel that Mike Singletary is pissed at the fact that he couldn't draft Michael Oher last year. He may tell Scott McCloughan that he doesn't care who else is available, he wants his OT so he can realize his "vision".
13. 49ers -- C.J. Spiller RB/WR/KR/PR (Drew K)
I put all those positions above because he can play them all. Scot M seems to be a BPA type of guy. With two 1st round picks, this pick here kills 4 birds with one stone. The offense was stagnate and could not move the ball at times. This will present headaches for opposing defensive coordinators because you can do so much with him.
14. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Seattle - from Denver (8-8) - Taylor Mays S USC- Seattle will need to address the OL soon, but Carrol will wnt to add his favortie safety from last season in Mays and take chances with later Tackle picks. (rlott#42)
14.SEATTLE Bryan Bulaga, OT (smileyman)
Having picked a solution for their secondary the Seahawks move on to their next biggest area of need, offensive line. Bulaga is the best tacle on the board at this point and should provide an immediate upgrade.
14. Seattle - from Denver (8-8) Charles Brown, OT-USC
It's the Seahawk's turn again. With a QB already selected the Hawks now have to address one of their remaining needs. This selection will probably be either an OT a WR or possibly a RB. I don't feel that there are any RBs worth selecting this high (Dwyer could possibly be a good fit but he's not worth the 14th overall pick) and Damian Williams and Taylor Mays were also considered here. Ideally I would like to give the Hawks a DE but Morgan is off the board and I don't know how they feel about Jason Pierre Paul.
14. Seahawks -- Trent Williams OL (Drew K)
Williams seems to have a lot of value being that he can play a few different positions. With the Hawks drafting a QB earlier, they will need some Oline help to keep whoever it is upright. The versatility that Williams brings to the table is the key factor in this pick.
15. NEW YORK GIANTS
New York Giants (8-8) Earl Thomas S Texas - The Giants have struggled mightily in pass defense and will hav to shore up the pass defense with a new ball hawking safety. (rlott#42)
15. NEW YORK GIANTS Brandon Spikes, ILB (smileyman)
How the mighty have fallen. The New York Giants won a Super Bowl mostly on the backs of their stellar defense (with a bit of help from an amazing catch by David Tyree). Now their defense is pedestrian at best and has let them get blown out by the Saints, the Eagles, the Broncos, the Panthers, and the Vikings to finish off the season. The offense can put up big points if they want to, but the defense isn't getting the job done at all. Spikes can come in and be an immediate upgrade at LB.
15. New York Giants (8-8) Brian Price, DT-UCLA (chikmagnet_565)
This pick can only be one of three positions: S, MLB, or DT. Can't Cover (C.C.) Brown was burned multiple times this season and Kenny Phillip's career is in serious jeopardy, Antonio Pierce is getting old and he too was injured this season, and the Giants DTs were not very good in 2009 which led to many changes along the G-men's defensive front this year. I considered Taylor Mays, Earl Thomas, Brian Price, and Brandon Spikes here and ultimately gave it to Price. I don't feel that Taylor Mays would be much of an upgrade over Brown, Earl Thomas' poor performance against the run doesn't make him a good fit in NY, and I just felt that Price was a better player than Spikes.
15. Giants -- Earl Thomas S (Drew K)
The Giants had major problems in the secondary this past season mainly at the safety positions. They will be looking to get back tot he top of that division and this will be one of the pieces they need.
16. TENNESSEE TITANS
Tennessee^ (8-8) - Sean Weatherspoon OLB Mizzou - After the knee injury to Bullock the Titans need to draft his heir apparent, and Sean Weatherspoon fits the mold. He will be a great player with and without Bullock to learn from. (rlott#42)
16. Tennessee* Sean Weatherspoon, OLB. (smileyman)
Thanks to VY's resurgence QB is no longer a position of need for the Titans. They obviously don't need help at RB, not with Chris Johnson smashing records left and right. When the second and third leading tacklers on your team are defensive ends you know youv'e got issues at LB. Tulloch is a pretty good ILB, but the OLBs for the Titans are not very good at all. I'm thinking they upgrade their defense here by getting one of the best LBs left on the board.
16. Tennessee (8-8) Jason Pierre-Paul, DE-South Florida (chikmagnet_565)
I strongly considered Joe Haden here but I ended up going with Pierre-Paul because he fills a bigger need at this point. Perhaps this will change after FA if TEN re-signs some of it's DEs (but even then, they are still too old at the position). Personally I don't believe in Pierre-Paul and I think he's this year's Aaron Maybin.
16. Titans -- Derrick Morgan DE (Drew K)
The Titans offense toward the end of the season seemed to be on the right track. They should be focusing on building that defense if they want to get back in to contention. Morgan will provide an immediate pass rush for the Titans on defense.
17. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
San Francisco - from Carolina^ (8-8) - CJ Spiller RB Clemson - Ah Ah Ah, not yet Mike, no OL with this pick either, with our KR/PR so atrocious, Scot Mc will accept Sing having the next two picks for the OL. Staley is our LT and we need a RT and we can find a starter in round 2 with help from our OL coaching additions. Clemson will take care of the KR/PR and will also be our NEW 3rd down back in passing situations. (rlott#42)
17. San Francisco (From Carolina)* Bruce Campbell (smileyman)
Bruce Campbell's history of nagging injuries drops him a little in the rankings, but not too much. This is an instant upgrade for the Niners and he'll start at RT, replacing Adam Snyder.
17. San Francisco - from Carolina (8-8) Joe Haden, CB-Florida (chikmagnet_565)
This was tough for me as a fan. I want Earl Thomas but the 49ers front office may like Joe Haden more because he plays a more important position and because he is "F"isical. I'm still clinging to a slight hope that McCloughan realizes Haden will be nothing more than an average NFL CB. But until then, it has to be Haden here.
17. 49ers -- Bryan Bulaga OL (Drew K)
With Bulaga still on the board here it would be very unwise to not draft him here. The Niners had major problems on that right side and Bulaga is just the mauling type of Tackle that we need on the right side. Snyder should be out and Bulaga in.
18. PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Pittsburgh (9-7) Terrance Cody NT Alabama - TOmlin has been the type of coach that doesn't like his players too heavy. But if you can carry the weight like Cody can, you have to take a player that will demand a double team in the run or pass. The Coach in Alabama subs him out as he sees fit, and so will the Steelers. They will stay atop the league in run D, despite losing their defensive anchor. (rlott#42)
18. Pittsburgh Dan Williams, DT (smileyman)
Polamalu should be back next year, so a replacement for him isn't an immediate concern (although they will n eed to address that soon). However they're running very thin at NT. Casey Hampton has been playing for 9 years. His contract is up this year and he's a Free Agent. He may or may not be resigned, depending on what he wants. The backup Chris Hoke has also been in the league for 9 years (and is really only good enough to be a solid backup). Williams will provide great depth for the Steelers and if Hampton isn't resigned they can move him in right away.
18. Pittsburgh (9-7) Earl Thomas,S-Texas (chikmagnet_565)
This was a weird pick for me. I wanted to give the 49ers Thomas and drop Haden to the Steelers, but I just don't see that happening. I've had Cody here for a while but I'm considering moving him ever since he weighed in at a massive 370 pounds at the Senior Bowl. I chose to give them Earl Thomas since two of their S are UFAs? Townsend (CB) is also a UFA and Gay (CB) will be a RFA
18. Steelers -- Mike Iupati OL (Drew K)
Iupati will compete to upgrade the interior Oline for the Steelers. He struggled a bit in the Senior Bowl but he is just the type of warrior that the Steelers will love.
19. ATLANTA FALCONS
Atlanta^ (9-7) - Joe Haden CB Florida - Haden will be the first CB taken off of the board, and is a need in Atlanta for the passing defense. (rlott#42)
19. Atlanta (9-7)* Patrick Robinson, CB (smileyman)
The Falcons have a wide open offense and are set at QB with Matt Ryan. They have an elite TE and Roddy White had almost 1200 yards receiving on the year. Their pass defense is one of the worst in the league and they have no depth at all at CB. Robinson will help out with that depth and should be a big upgrade for them.
19. Atlanta (9-7) Donovan Warren, CB-Michigan (chikmagnet_565)
This pick almost has to be a CB. But who? I don't like Donovan Warren, Kyle Wilson hasn't done enough to prove he's a 1st rounder and neither has Brandon Ghee. Perhaps a DE could be considered here? Everson Griffen isn't that good. Ultimately I went with Donovan Warren because I realized that it doesn't matter what I think of him. The falcons may consider him a 1st round pick and select him right here. I considered Spiller here because Turner was injured for a large part of the season and Jerious Norwood will be a RFA in 2010 (right?). I'll probably change this pick to Spiller once Donovan Warren's stock starts falling.
19. Falcons -- Sean Weatherspoon LB (Drew K)
The Falcons will benefite extremely from this pick here. The Strong Side Linebacker for the Falcons could use an upgrade. Stephen Nicholas may not be the long-term answer for the Falcons at that position.
20. HOUSTON TEXANS
Houston^ (9-7) Patrick Robinson CB Florida St.- Robinson could easily be the first CB takn off of the board after his senior bowl performance and practices. Houston will let go of Dunta Robinson, with or without a new CBA. (rlott#42)
20. Houston (9-7)* Jonathon Dwyer, RB (smileyman)
Surprisingly Houston passed for more yards this year than any other team (including Indy). Their rushing offense is not good. Their defense is solidly in the middle of the pack and they have no glaring holes in either run defense or pass defense. I think they look to upgrade their offense to become more two-dimensional. Jahvid Best's concussion history worries Houston so they reach past him to grab Dwyer.
20. Houston (9-7) Taylor Mays, S-USC (chikmagnet_565)
I'm guessing that Houston fans will not like this selection. But Houston fans aren't the ones calling the shots here. I gave them Taylor Mays because I really couldn't go anywhere else with this selection. There is no good DT available here and I honestly don't know squat about the Texans OL. Does Houston need some OL help?
20. Texans -- Taylor Mays S (Drew K)
The Texans may be looking to upgrade their secondary with drafting a safety. Mays is the best fit to fill a need that the Houston defense could use. They will wait and hope to land Jahvid Best or Ryan Matthews in the 2nd.
21. CINCINNATI BENGALS
Cincinnati* (10-6) Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma - The Bengals will add a lot to the passing game starting with the best TE in the draft. Say hi to production in the passing game. (rlott#42)
21. Bengals Golden Tate (WR) (smileyman)
The Bengals have a pretty good team. What they don't have is a passing threat opposite of Chad Ochocinco, nor do they have a threat at TE. The Bengals upgrade their offense by selection Golden Tate.
21. Cincinnati (10-6) Damian Williams, WR-USC (chikmagnet_565)
It came down to Jermaine Gresham and Damian Williams here. Gresham is without a doubt the best TE in the draft and Damian Williams is a tremendous talent. I went with Damian Williams because he doesn't have any injury concerns. Gresham, on the other hand, suffered a nasty injury that ended his 2009 season.
21. Bengals -- Brandon Graham DE/LB (Drew K)
The Bengals lacked a decent pass rush last year and Graham will add fire and leadership to that defense. They may aim to get a safety in the 2nd and with rumors flying around that T.O. wants to go play for the Bengals, this may be the wisest pick for them at 21.
22. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
New England* (10-6) Brian Price DT UCLA - The Pats need to fill the void that Seymour left, although I think he will return to the Pats. ( and I will LOL) I made the selection of Sergio Kindle in the community mock, but only because Price was off of the board. (rlott#42)
22 Patriots Jason Pierre-Paul (DE) (smileyman)
The Patriots need to upgrade their defense. Their offense is still potent but their defense struggled at times. They need upgrades at their LB spots as well as their defensive line. They grab Pierre-Paul here to help out with their run defense and pass rush.
22. New England (10-6) C.J. Spiller, RB-Clemson (chikmagnet_565)
Some (all) of you may say that there is no way Spiller falls this far. Well, I don't care what you think :P. I originally wanted to give New England Jerry Hughes, but you can't pass on a talent like Spiller with the 22nd pick. Hopefully they keep Spiller as far away from Laurence Maroney as possible so he doesn't pick up any bad running techniques
22. Patriots -- Patrick Robinson CB (Drew K)
With Shawn Springs missing time this year, injury prone, and 34 years old, the Patriots would be hard pressed NOT to pick Robinson with this pick. Belichick is the type of coach that makes potentially great players great. Robinson would be a good fit.
23. GREEN BAY PACKERS
Green Bay* (11-5) - Bryan Bulaga LT Iowa - The Packers have a diamond fall into their laps at the 23rd pick. A lot like the Ravens of last season. This pick is going to come at a price, as their need for an OLB is apparent. (rlott#42)
23 Packers Anthony Davis (OT) (smileyman)
Both of the Packers tackles are on the downhill side of their careers. Davis will be able to step in at either RT or LT and is a great value at this spot.
23. Green Bay (11-5) Trent Williams, OT-Oklahoma (chikmagnet_565)
Tough choice here. I could go a number of ways with this selection. Trent Williams is still on the board, Jerry Hughes makes sense since Kapman is unlikely to come back, some CB depth would be useful here also. I went with Williams over the above options because I know the Packers always draft BPA and I guess that right here Trent Williams is the BPA.
23. Packers -- Charles Brown OL (Drew K)
Aaron Rodgers got sacked A LOT last year. Part of it was his fault for hanging on to the ball too long, and the other half was on the Oline. With a bunch of Tackles already off the board, Brown will have gotten lucky to be moved up to this slot from an early 2nd round prediction.
24. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Philadelphia* (11-5) - Brandon Spikes MLB Florida - The Eagles will need to add another heat seeking LB in Spikes, and he will fit well in the blitzildelphia scheme. (rlott#42)
24 Eagles Ricky Sapp (DE) (smileyman)
The Eagles are set at offense with explosive WRs, good QBs, and a very good offensive line. They have major needs on their defensive front 7. They pick Ricky Sapp to help out on the defensive line.
24. Philadelphia (11-5) Everson Griffen, DE-USC (chikmagnet_565)
I had three options here: Everson Griffen, Navarro Bowman, and Sean Weatherspoon. I'm going with Griffen because Andy Reid loves stockpiling DEs and I think he'll fall in love with Griffen's upside. I think Bowman should be the pick here, but for now I'll leave Griffen because of what I said above.
24. Eagles -- Brian Price DT (Drew K)
The Eagles number one priority will be to upgrade their defensive line. We saw in the playoffs that the pressure just wasn't where it needed to be. Price will be a great fit in what the Eagles like to do.
25. BALTIMORE RAVENS
Baltimore* (9-7) Damian Williams WR USC - Ravens definitely need to aide the offense, as the defense continues to be the bright spot for the team. Ray Lewis n company wil now need more points to aide in their efforts to be a dominant team. (rlott#42)
25 Ravens Jared Odrick (DT) (smileyman)
The Ravens have a very good offense. They're set at offensive line, QB, TE, and RB. Their star WR is 36, and the #2 WR is decent enough, so I think they leave the offense alone in the first round. Their LT only recorded 31 tackles last year, their RT 35. Between the two of them they got 8 sacks. They need to upgrade that position and Odrick should fill a need for them.
25. Baltimore (9-7) Brandon LaFell, WR-LSU (chikmagnet_565)
I had two players in mind here: Jermaine Gresham and Brandon LaFell. I went with LaFell because Todd Heap stayed relatively healthy this season so he doesn't need to be replaced. However the Ravens are definitely hurting at the WR position, Mason threatened to retire before the 2009 season and Clayton is a horrible No.2. I'll change this pick if the Ravens acquire a WR through a trade.
25. Ravens -- Damian Williams WR (Drew K)
The Ravens are in dire need of some help on offense. Williams will be able to step in and give Quarterback Joe Flacco an opportunity to excel in to that elite class.
26. ARIZONA CARDINALS
Arizona Cardinals* (11-5) - Sergio Kindle OLB Texas - Although the offensive line needs to be addressed OLb is a definite need as their pass rush is worse than the Niners. They could possibly take an OT at this pick as they can't protect the QB or get to one. (rlott#42)
26 Cardinals Mike Iupati (OG) (smileyman)
The Cardinals are thrilled that Iupati has slipped this far. They can sign a young player to replace the struggline Reggie Wells at LG. Wells will be a free agent in 2011, so Iupati will be able to sit for a year if he needs to if he can't win the starting job right away.
26. Arizona (10-6) Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB-TCU (chikmagnet_565)
How lucky is Arizona? Two great players fall to them in the 1st round two years in row. Last year it was Wells, now it's Jerry Hughes. The Cardinals can get to the QB, but it's mainly because of the magnificent play of Darnell Dockett. Imagine how deadly their pass-rush would be with a guy like Hughes coming off the edge. There are rumblings that Anquan Boldin may be traded, Kurt Warner's future is still unknown, and Karlos Dansby may leave via FA. Those three situations could factor into this pick, but at this point I don't see how I could give them any player other than Hughes.
26. Cardinals -- Sam Bradford QB (Drew K)
With Warner out, Matt Leinart's abilities in question, and Bradford falling all the way to the bottom half of the first round, the Cards would be dumb to pass on the Oklahoma Quarterback here. They will need someone to step in and "lead" the Cards; something in which Warner had mastered. Bradford possesses that necessary leadership to be successful at the next level.
27. DALLAS COWBOYS
Dallas Cowboys - Daryl Washington ILB TCU - The Cowboys will need a replacement for Brooking and go with Washington. Why not Spikes? I think Washingotn is a better all around player and I think Phillips is good at finding LB's. (rlott#42)
27 Cowboys Carlos Dunlap (DE) (smileyman)
With both Spears and Olshansky underperforming (65 tackles and 3 sacks between the two of them), the Cowboys select Dunlap. Questions about his work ethic and desire dropped him to the bottom of the first, but the Cowboys are willing to take a chance here.
27. Dallas (11-5) Mike Iupati, G-Idaho (chikmagnet_565)
A perfect fit in Dallas. This gives the Cowboys the best interior lineman on the board that may be able to move to OT with proper coaching (although he didn't look so good at the Senior Bowl on day one). Terrence Cody was also considered here, but in light of his weight I have dropped him out of this spot. I also believe that reaching for a Safety here would not be a good move, especially not with Iupati on the board.
27. Cowboys -- Brandon Lafell WR (Drew K)
Lafell can step in and take over for Roy Williams right away. Williams did not produce and only complained the entire season. The Cowboys and Romo will need a second WR next to Miles Austin to get the Cowboys back to their dynasty years. Lafell has the potential to be the number one over Austin eventually.
28. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
San Diego* (13-3) - Jonathan Dwyer RB G Tech.- The Chargers will part ways with Tomlinson this season. After posting a 3.3 ypc avg. the Chargers will move forward. (rlott#42)
28 Chargers Trent Williams (OT) (smileyman)
The Chargers have needs at RB, but they have an UDFA rookie at RT. I think they look to upgrade this position since Williams fell so far.
28. San Diego (13-3) Jonathan Dwyer, RB-Georgia Tech (chikmagnet_565)
San Diego will have a very busy off-season. If there is no salary cap Marcus McNeill will be a RFA, Shawne Merriman will be a UFA (6 NFL seasons means UFA right?) Darren Sproles will be a UFA (yes?), Vincent Jackson will be a RFA, and a few other back-up WRs will be FAs. I'm not going to try to guess who they'll retain and who they'll let go. But I do know that L.T. is set to make almost $5 Million in 2010 and that he played poorly in 2009. I think he'll be out of SD and even if Sproles is brought back, I don't think he can carry the load all by himself. I chose Dwyer for the above reasons, he may not be an explosive back, but I feel that he would be a good fit in SD. There is a 99%chancece that I'll change this selection after FA starts.
28. Chargers -- Sergio Kindle DE/OLB (Drew K)
Lights Out is more than likely on his way out. The Chargers will want to bring back the same type of energy that Merriman once brough to that defense. Kindle is a perfect fit for an upgrade there.
29. NEW YORK JETS
New York Jets* (9-7) -Kyle Wilson CB Boise St.- After watching their CB's get carved up by Garcon, Ryan will still be having nightmares about his horrible CB play vs the Colts. He will be arrogant and take his CB with his first draft pick. ALthough I would take a WR, LaFell looks good here. (rlott#42)
29 Jets Kyle Wilson (CB) (smileyman)
The Jets have Revis island, but not much else. Lito Sheppard is on the downhill side of his career and there isn't much depth behind those two. Wilson's performance during Senior Bowl week vaults him into the first round.
29. New York Jets (9-7) Terrance Cody, NT-Alabama (chikmagnet_565)
Poor Jets, Bill Polian gave them a free ticket to the Playoffs but crushed their super bowl hopes a few weeks later. All this did was take the Jets out of the running for a top-notch WR in the draft. Aurelious Benn and Golden Tate are the best options left at WR, but taking either of them would be a reach. That left me with Jared Odrick, Terrance Cody, and Brandon Ghee. Odrick's stock is kind ounknownwn right now, some teams may have him in the 1st round, others may have him in the 2nd...We don't know, Cody has the weight issues, and Ghee has all thphysicalal tools to be a great CB, but for some reason he hasn't produced as well as I'd like him to. I'm tentatively going to give them Cody right now because I don't know too much about the stock of the other two.
29. Jets -- Dan Williams NT (Drew K)
Williams will give the Jets the youth and energy at that spot and is just the type of tough-physical player that Rex Ryan will like to have on his team.
30. MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Minnesota Vikings Tim Tebow QB Florida - TIm Tebow does get drafted in round 1. I think the Vikings coach would love to have a natural leader and a QB he will NEVER have to bump heads with. He will fit in with the running game and benefit from the AP machine in the backfield. (rlott#42)
30 Vikings Brian Price (DT) (smileyman)
With Pat Williams looking to retire, the VIkings will need someone to step up and fill that gap. Brian Price could be that guy.
30. Minnesota (12-4) Jared Odrick,DT-Penn State (chikmagnet_565)
-LOL Minnesota got Farve'd again! Ah well what else did they expect?- Minnesota is full of questions right now. Is Farve coming back? Are they really interested in McNabb? Has Childress given up on Tavaris Jackson? What's going thappenen with Ray Edwards? Is Pat Williams going to retire? What happened to Cedric Griffin at the end of the season? We don't know the answers to any of these questions. I'm baffled. Do I give them a guy like Carlos Dunlap? Tony Pike? Brandon Ghee? Jared Odrick?
30. Vikings -- Ricky Sapp OLB (Drew K)
Could they Vikes get any better on their pass rush than they currently are? Yes, is the correct answer if you were guessing. Sapp will add speed and power in that pass rush and depending on which side he will line up on in the NFL, they will have an even more fierce pass rush than they currently do.
31. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
New Orleans* (13-3) - Jared Odrick DT Penn St. - With 4-3 DT's disappearing in the draft the Saints reah for one now, rather than not getting one that can start. They add Odrick to improve the run defense. (rlott#42)
31 Saints Jerry Hughes (OLB) (smileyman)
The Saints could use some help with their linebackers. Scott Fujita is a free agent, and may not be resigned. He missed several games this year because of a staph infection and is in his 8th season. Hughes was an integral part of the TCU team that went undefeated during the regular season thsi year (only losing to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl).
31. New Orleans (13-3) Morgan Burnett, S-Georgia Tech (chikmagnet_565)
Sharper's situation with the Saints is iffy. If the Saints win the Super Bowl, it's possible that Sharper may retire. Either way, the Saints need a Safety (they could also use a LB). I'm going with Burnett for now but the 4th best safety ranking is up for grabs. (I considered Sean Weatherspoon here too).
31. Saints -- Corey Wootton DE (Drew K)
The Saints biggest glaring need is a LDE. Wooton currently plays that position and plays it well...very well. He will add a pass rush from that side that currently isn't there. I hope the Saints are picking 32 but either way they could still end up with this pick.
32. INDINAPOLIS COLTS
Indianapolis* (14-2) - Mike Iupat OG Idaho- Easily the steal of the draft, only because a player like Iupati goes to Indy. Their running game and passing game wil benefit from his addition. (rlott#42)
32 Colts Everson Griffen (DE) (smileyman)
Both DE for the Colts have issues with staying healthy. Freeney has missed 17 regular season games in the last three years and may not play in the Super Bowl this year. If he does play he'll be limited as to what he can do. On the other side Robert Mathis missed 6 games this year due to a quad injury and has also dealt with shoulder injuries. Griffen is the type of player the Colts like and should provide some youth and health to the team.
32. Indianapolis (14-2) Carlos Dunlap,DE-Florida (chikmagnet_565)
What happened to Jacob Lacey? He was toast last Sunday.
The Colts could use help at a few positions, CB probably isn't one of them though (Lacey and Powers are both rookies and I don't think they'll draft another CB). I think that the Colts ideally want an OT but I don't know if they'll reach for one here (I considered Selvish Capers). I'm giving them Carlos Dunlap because I think Mathis is a FA after next season(?) and I know the Colts would like to have a pass-rusher they can move inside.
32. Colts -- Jerry Hughes OLB (Drew K)
With Mathis and Freeney already in place for the starting positions at DE, adding a speed rushing LB to the mix could spell trouble for QB's for years to come. Hughes may not be an every down LB but given opportunities, he can be a dangerous force for the Colts.

It's in there
I forgot to take off the bottom comment. Btw, thanks for getting this up.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
There it is
Just wasn’t paying attention obviously
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
What has he won?
Any playoff games?
He is better than Smith, but is he a playoff QB?
Remains to be seen, and yet to be proven.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

how was the playoff loss his fault? yeah he fumbled in overtime, but it was the defense’s fault they were in overtime.

Who said that?
When the defense wins the game, the QB will get the credit, so if the defense loses, I am gonna blame the QB. It’s like Roethlisberger, Manning, Brady, it goes both ways, defense does their job the QB is annointed as the man. Defense flops, why not blame the QB. He had chances to put up more points, every drive was not a success.

Don’t try to justify a mistake other people make by making your own mistakes.
and my point was that don’t think there’s any hump for rogders to get over. he went into the playoffs and put up 45 points. you can’t expect much more from a quarterback.

This.
He could have done more, but 45 points should be more than enough to win a playoff game.

Technically, you can't define a playoff QB, it should probably be called a playoff team then.
Tribute to #42 Ronnie Lott
Tossing one out there
1A RB/KR/PR CJ Spiller – An offensive weapon we can’t pass up I feel.
1B OT Brian Bulaga – Take care of the RT position with a good player
2 OT/OG Vladmir Ducasse – Use him as a guard. Other options Jon Asamoah or Maurkice Pouncey if he falls a bit.
3 S Reshad Jones – A good player at a need position
4 CB Akwasi Owusu-Ansah – Fast, a ballhawk and a returner too.
5 DE/DT D’Anthony Smith, Michael Neal or Geno Atkins – Any of the 3 offer us a big man with Pass Rush ability.
6 WR Marcus Easley – Fast player just needs some work
7 OLB Justin Cole or Dexter Davis – Pick up some depth and pass rush ability at our LB position
UDFA: QB Bill Stull, WR Stephen Williams, WR Kelton Tindal (bring in this speed demon with size 6-2 192 lbs to give him a look)

Why are people so high on Ducasse?
3rd round pick written all over him, from what I heard of Senior Bowl practices and game.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They probably saw him mentioned by Mayock on NFL Network
I’ve never seen him as anything other than a serviceable G.

Actually I'm pegging him at Guard
I think he could turn into a very viable guard. Not pushing for him as a tackle though if he shows that ability then we have a worst case fill in guy. Pouncey quite possibly gone by then and Asamoah it looked like would be a bit `5 or so picks too high but essentially read that pick as ’Pick a guard"
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Feb 10, 2010 9:43 AM PST up reply actions
I wouldn't mind him as a G.
But not in the 2nd.
There are quite a few good Gs this year.
I’m sure the 49ers can wait a bit.

I can see your point
Here’s the guys I see would be around at our 3rd pick (maybe):
Mike Johnson
Mitch Petrus
Brandon Johnson
John Jerry
So how about swapping the safety pick and the guard pick. Pick Chad Jones or Morgan Burnett at safety in the second and Pick one of those in the 3rd?
That work? :-)
by ChesapeakeBay9er on Feb 11, 2010 4:15 PM PST up reply actions
Has to laugh
because I sit there looking at the draft and going “Ok Drew won’t like that I waited till the 6th to draft a WR. rLott won’t like that I went for OT in the first and that I didn’t go for Berry. And chik won’t like it cuz I went for Spiller” LOL can’t please everyone. Optimal would be to trade that second down for a late 2nd and an extra 3rd and take WR Taylor Price with the late 2nd and take Reshad Jones with one of the 3rds and get one of the guards with the other 3rd.
So then you’d have this as offensive picks:
RB/KR/PR CJ Spiller
WRs Taylor Price and Stephen Williams
OT Bulaga
OG Mike Johnson/Petrus/Jerry
And then on defense you’d have:
S Reshad Jones
CB Ansah
A Pass rushing DE
And a backup project OLB
plus we’d have Spiller and Ansah to help with returns and increase it’s potentiality immensely.

Combine will tell us a lot
Here’s my reasoning for Price over Ford and it’s quite possibly wrong.
1) Taller – Price is listed at 6 ft where as Ford is 5’9"
2) Bigger – he’s listed at 198 versus 5’9"
3) Route Running – I think I read somewhere that Price is better on routes not sure of that though.
On nfldraftscout.com they are both listed at 4.3x 40s. Price 4.36 and Ford at 4.37..minimal. I personally would like some height on my WRs but we’ll be able to make better assessments once we get some real times from the combine and pro days.
I for sure would not be crushed if we got Ford.

I don't think Price is a good player though.
He had a good week of practice at the senior bowl and all of a sudden he’s awesome?

I wouldn’t be upset at all if we got Bryant
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
Some people are shmucks and feeble minded.
What we need to do this draft is use our picks, unless someone wants to trade a 1 for a 2 and a 5.
We need to at least get two key positions filled in round one and here are the players I would except
Bulaga/Spiller
Thomas/Spiller
Thomas/Bulaga
Campbell/Spiller
Campbell/Thomas
Be/rry—JK
Berry/Spiller- It can happen.
Berry/ OLB Mich. (name slips right now)
Berry/Bulaga
Berry/Campbell
Bryant/Spiller
Berry/Bryant
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bryant/ Spiller is interesting. But I think at least one pick should be spent on an Olineman. If you use a 2nd and a 3rd on a RT and LG, that is certainly a possibility. Most of the top Guard prospects are RG’s though. That’s why I grabbed Iupati early on in the mock below.
If you only have 3 defensive selections, what would you spend them on position wise?
DL, OLB, CB?
CB, S, DL?
DL, CB, OLB?
CB, S, OLB?
There are a bunch of different possibilities, I guess it just comes down to who is on the board still.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
That would be unbelievable though with this for the next few years, especially if the line was upgraded as well:
RB: Frank Gore/ C.J. Spiller/ Glen Coffee
FB: Brit Miller
WR: Michael Crabtree/ Dez Bryant/ Josh Morgan/ Jason Hill/ Brandon Jones
TE: Vernon Davis/ Delanie Walker/ Tony Curtis
That is some fire power there.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
Guard is easily interchangeable.
There are enough to wait until the 3rd round. A lot of good OL, make it to later rounds.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I would rather have Iupati than take a chance on a 3rd round guard and Calloway could be the best RT prospect outside of maybe Trent Williams. That is kinda why I suggested Iupati.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
That 3rd round guard I have listed could be as good or better, h is flying under the radar
He is quick, strong, and an iron man.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the reason he's flying under the radar
is because he’s going back to school next year.

3rd round guards
tend to not be able to come in right away and make a difference.
Rachal didn’t start getting it until the last half of this year when he became a very good guard.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
Well whose line are you trying to build?
The Jets or the Panthers?
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
The Jets obviously
but I don’t know what that has to do with my comment that linemen drafted in later rounds tend to take awhile to develop.
I really can’t see this front office drafting Iupati in the first.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.

If it was me I’d grab two offensive linemen in the first round.
I think the FO goes with a tackle in the 1st and a skill player (RB/WR), and then a guard in the 2nd or 3rd.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
I dont think the Panthers current Oline is that much better than ours. Decent in Run Blocking not so decent in Pass Blocking
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
Not having a QB that is serviceable has clouded your judgement. They loss Gross for the season.
Blindside Veteran and pro bowler, their line should have did worse in the passing game. how the hell is their O Line not that much better than ours? They open huge holes for those backs to run through. The back up had plenty of time to throw as well, last season.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They gave up 7 less sacks than us. That’s less than half a sack a game. Like I said, not that much better in pass blocking. Their run blocking is better than ours but that’s it. The Jets were 11th in sacks allowed and 1st in rushing yards and that’s the difference between an average line and a number one line. That’s the point. At least stay on topic if you are going to continue to have issues with every single thing I say.

Before he got injured he was worse than Snyder (in pass protection).

The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
Not in that order
This order, S, CB, DE
Not whatever round, I wouldn’t go DE until 5th and not Safety or corner until after OT.

IF Berry falls to # 13
Then it would have to be either
Berry / Bulaga
Berry / Campbell
Berry / Williams

LOL Berry will fall to 13 when you drug the first 12 GM’s and make selections for them. Berry is going 3rd to the Bucs.
Andy Lee for MVP! Hey, that rhymes...
I do believe I heard people say that about Crabtree last year...
Of course Berry’s foot doesn’t hurt and he will probably do the combine… but, things happen

Then you would have Crabtree and Bryant likely becoming free agents the same year.
49er’s would be held hostage particularly if they both stayed with their current agent. Better to separate same position picks by a year of two at least.
by a year or two
It’s a year in between them, and extending players is also an option. i wouldn’t be counting all my marbles on Crabtree reurning either.

What good would that trio be if Smith only has -1.5 seconds to throw
Unless your assuming that the niners fix the issue via FA or prayers.

Smith had more than 1.5 seconds to throw last year. We have time and picks to address the OL issues.

Spiller soft?
When I watched a highlight real of Spiller, he seemed to avoid contact. Anybody else get that impression? I wonder if he’s up to the day to day pounding that is the NFL.
If juking a guy out of his cleats making him totally miss and running for a TD means soft,
then I am all for a “soft” RB.

1A. CJ Spiller RB (Clemson)
1B. Mike Iupati OG (Idaho)
2. Kyle Calloway RT (Iowa)
3. Brandon Ghee CB (Wake Forest)
4. Reshad Jones S (Georgia)
5. Stephen Williams WR (Toledo)
6. Justin Cole OLB (San Jose State)
7. Cam Thomas NT (North Carolina)
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
Don't like Iupati that early, we could take Thomas from Texas at 13 and Spiller at 17.
Then Calloway or Asamoah, and their are more options, than to reach for a G.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 defensive players and 4 offensive players. It addresses all major needs and gives us value for each player of each round.
Iupati is a LG and would be an upgrade over Baas.
Calloway upgrade over Snyder
Spiller beefs up the offense, special teams, extends Gore’s shelf life
Ghee could contend for a number two corner spot and definitely a 5DB spot. He would be mixed in and add playmaking ability on defense.
Jones could also contend for one of the starting safety spots.
Williams may be the sleeper steal of the draft, you already know that. Could be the number 2, at least number 3.
Cole is a fierce pass rusher and kills RB’s on the run. Would be a nice mix in and backup at OLB.
Cam Thomas could be the guy to replace Franklin when and if he leaves.
I think it actually addresses everyones wants and needs quite well. I don’t think Iupati is that far of a reach at 17. I am thinking his worth is somewhere in between 16 and 32 but I don’t see him slipping past 25.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.

I say that about Iupati, because of the situation with Baas, if we keep him, why spend a 1st round pick at 17 on a guard? That’s a reach. Then I also don’t think Jones makes it to the 4th round, and you usually are good about mocking players in attainable rounds.
How about this
13 Thomas- Texas S
1b. Spiller RB
2. Ghee CB
3. Calloway RT
4. Hudson OG FSU
5. S Williams
6 and 7 your picks sound fine there and our same needs are met. I would rather reach for a position that isn’t filled than one that is.

Iupati is just the best OG, and we have a need at G, but not a 1st round need.

I wouldn't
We have a need at safety as well as RT. How is it that a RT isn’t worth a 1st and G is? I would rather a CB be drafted than an OG. From where we sit as a team Guard is not even a top 3 need.

Spencer
is better than servicable and Clements did well also before he was injured with the exception of one game vs Atl. Brown showed potential. I am not saying it’s not a team need cause afterall Clements is getting old. I just don’t think spending anything higher than a 3rd would be the best case scenario because of our offense and Oline stinking so bad.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
It obviously depends on what has happened.
I wouldn’t like the 49ers to draft a CB in the 1st.
But if a guy like Wilson, Robinson, or Ghee is available in the 2nd , they should consider it.
Spencer is OK but the injury concerns are still there.
Clemments has struggled since he came to SF, he has had more than one bad game.
Brown has the talent to be the 49ers best CB but he just isn’t there yet (and might never get there).
Bly and Harris could leave and after that we’re left with K. Smith and M. Hudson.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

If our CB's are fine, I wouldn't mock or draft one in the 2nd round to be a fifth corner.
Although Ghee is a good pick and I think easily the 4th corner. We will see how good they are this year, as we will face good passing teams once again. i just odon’t agree to keep baas and then draft Iupati in the first, so I guess it remains to be seen, after what is done with baas.

With the addition of our new Ol coach and assistant, he can't be better than serviceable.
I could be wrong but wasn’t it you that said his RB was fine, just not his PB?
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what I thought
I’ve got a post coming out on Wednesday that goes into more detail.
Baas is a great blocker when he can pull. He can’t do straight ahead blocking at all, and he gets pushed back when he does pass blocking.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
Is it technique, or lack of ability?
We can’t answer that, the Ol coaches can, so reaching for Iupati, doesn’t sound good to me.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with both
We don’t know which it is—i’m guessing technique since Baas originally played center in college and we moved him to guard.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
Baas can’t pass block worth a pint of snot.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
So what's the answer to the OL coaches helping him change that?
Are we to not expect anything form our position coaches?
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's just assume our coaches are going to magically fix everyone
even players that aren’t good and have Zero upside and less potential. Coaches can only do so much.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
What do you know about OL potential.
Baas did play on a bad foot this year. Being so fat could have made him slower do to a bad wheel. If it is technique the coahces will address it. if it is not they still won’t take Iupati at 17, and it would still be a bad pick. You usually make a lot of sense, but I can’t even fathom how this pick came to be. How do you get Iupati, when he is neither BPA or biggest need?
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not going to even respond to this nonsense
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
It's not non sense
In no situation would he be BPA or biggest need to fill at 17. You don’t have anything to say, hard to believe, but it’s apparent.
SUCK IT PEYTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Raye singled out Baas' 1st first half of season issues due to foot....
…..and specifically stated he picked it up towards the end of the year when he got healthy.
Now I’m not saying Raye knows everything. But I don’t think the LG spot is as needed as RT. I’d like to get a dominate LG, but not before RT.
I say that about Iupati, because of the situation with Baas, if we keep him, why spend a 1st round pick at 17 on a guard?
So you want Baas to potentially start again? No thanks. It’s not a reach if he is projected a mid to late round first… even if it was, it’d be by what? 5 slots? That is not a reach in my opinion… not with a need like that. Rodney Hudson isn’t even in my top 10 no thanks to that as well. 4th Rd Guard is more than likely not going to be an upgrade over Baas.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
Ok he isn't in your top ten, so what.
Iupati isn’t worth that high of a pick on this team and you can’t convince me and some others differently. His projection has nothing to do with our needs. There really wouldn’t be a situation in which he would be BPA. So n o matter what you draft for he will be a definite reach.
Hudson will be a good OG in the NFL, quote the Raven, nevermore!!

Ok well Baas is not even an average Guard from what I have seen. He gave up sacks and wasn’t stellar in the run. So what if he pulls averagely, so do a lot of other guys that can pass block too. We need to upgrade and God forbid he starts again.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
his pulling is the best part of his game. many if not most of gore’s runs for more than 10 yards later in the season came on Baas pull blocks.

Rachal was the one that got better at it as the year went on.
Baas has been good at pulling for quite a while.
His technique in pass protection is not very good though.
Occasionally he doesn’t set his feet correctly and gets pushed back.

From what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong.
His lapses in pass blocking is what you dislike most. Or is it his footwork? I just don’t see how you want to replace him so bad, when Staley, and Rachal have been just as bad at times. Staley wasn’t even our best LT last season.

I don’t like the way his helmet looks like he is wearing a beanie.
On a serious note, yeah his pass blocking is not good and it wasn’t good before he had the injury as well. He has been on the team since ’05 and been a liability most of that time.
I agree about Staley and Rachal but that doesn’t mean I have faith in Baas. Staley and Rachal have upside and are young still. Baas is to that age where he should have had it by now.
The Tim Tebow Story "A Bust In The Making" ...Part 2 Coming After The Draft...Stay Tuned.
How old is he? i think 29 without looking, and that helmet is scary.

I seen a leg and asked who it was. It appears there are two niners blocking those DT. There is also some slight evidence Smith had more time to throw than 1.5 seconds, what was the play outcome?

Rachal was going down
Heitmann picked up both blocks. Completed pass to Crabtree for 20 yards.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
How much more time did he need.
To complete the pass that is. I don’t know if 1 play makes him great either, he whiffs too, but it probably isn’t his fault. he doesn’t know anyone on his line that well.
Tribute to #42 Ronnie Lott
Don't remember
I think it was a fairly quick pattern—maybe 10 yds or less out and that Crabtree picked up the rest on YAC.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
Heitman doesn't whiff too often.
BTW: Does anyone have a picture of the time Baas stepped on Alex and forced him to fall which resulted in a “sack”

Seattle just got Forsett who is the same style runner and averaged 5.4 YPC. They got him in the 7th Round and his salary is very low for the level of production he gives him. I think it is very unlikely that the Seahawks draft Spiller.

that it would be a nice lil stab in the back and noted that a lot of mocks seem to think that the Seahawks want him at 14. I think that others overblew my comment about it and thought I was giving more value to it than it was meant. I meant it more in the “Yes! Got ya! we just have to outplay the seahawks. if they get an OT at their first pick we get spiller. if they get an qb at the first pick then we get bulaga and they still have to get an LT so we get spiller anyway. the teams between our picks are the seahawks, giants and maybe the titans. unless somone trades in, the only team that needs a tackle or runningback is the seahawks. if we want spiller and bulaga, and they’re there at our first pick, we can get them.

I wanna see offense !
I was very impressed with our defense this year, and feel we can get some help in the later rounds. I hope the first three picks are offensive… Spiller, Bulaga, Gilyard is my favorite scenario..
I like your mock
1a Spiller
1b Bulaga
2 Thomas (I’ll be surprised if he makes it to pick 49)
3. I love Asamoah but I’ll be shocked if he’s there in the 3rd. Ducasse will be a very good guard and should be there.
4. I think it will be ither Chancellor or Rolle in the 4th. Rolle’s commitment will be fine for the length of his rookie contract which for a 4th round pick will probably be 4 years. At that point we can see what he’s developed into.
5. Looove Freddie Barnes. I think he’ll be the biggest steal of the draft.
6. Not familiar with any of your picks
7. Same, though I doubt we draft a TE, with the recent signing of Tony Curtis to a furture contract.
Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.

Yes Drew K, Tim Tebow will probably get picked in the first round.
I know ... it's hard to believe (that I'm that old)!!
But it’s true. My dad took me to see my first 49er game in the 1950 season — although neither team was very good that year (both had losing records), the 9ers beat the Green Bay Packers at Kesar Stadium in Golden Gate Park, something like 28-14. I remember most of the 9ers starting lineup but the only Packer I can recall was their QB, Tobin Rote. Many of you won’t believe it, but that was in the 9ers fourth year in history — founded by two Italian brothers right after the end of WWII (1946).
I’m old, but I don’t feel old, am still very active physically and mentally (at age 71), and love the 9ers as much today as I did in 1950. Over the years had the opportunity of living near some of the players, talking with them at neighborhood parties, and even having our kids “play catch” with some of them (particularly Montana when he was in his first two years with the team)
.
Love the website. Keep up the good work.

Changing My Mock Up A Bit
1A) Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
I know that we need to solidify our line, and we all know our biggest concern is a RT. I would want to draft him with our, 16/17 pick, but if the Seahawks don’t draft a linemen with there 6 pick I think they could steal this guy from us and he impresses me a lot with his strength and upside.
1B) Earl Thomas, S, Texas
Another strong need for us, and with us already filling a huge gap on offense, we can fill a huge gap on defense now with solidifying our secondary with a true ball hawk safety. Now I’m not saying that our secondary is completely filled, but our safety position with Dashon Goldson and Earl Thomas, seems like a very pretty idea.
2) Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida
It’s a long shot to think he might drop all the way down to us here, but let’s dream. Let’s say Takeo plays one more season and we can get him to mentor the younger Spikes to replace him. Keeping our ILB’ing corp one of the best in the whole NFL.
3) Jon Asamoah, G, Illinois
It can’t hurt to keep building our line with stronger, younger, more reliable guys. Jon Asamoah seems like an instant upgrade for our running game. But we’ll have to see how he turns out.
4) Brandon Shipley, WR/KR/PR, Texas
I watched this kid play during the All Star games on ESPN 2. He has great hands and set records in Texas for receptions. They’re comparing him to Wes Welker and he seems like he would be a dream #2 WR for us. He’s also a steal falling to the 4th round which unless he amazes at the combine, he will fall to the 4th.
5) Eric Olsen, OG, Notre Dame
Grab another OG that has potential so we can get some competition going for the OL.
6) LaGarette Blount, RB, Oregon
Seems like he might have an attitude problem with that punch he delivered in the Boise State game. But he’s a great running back and he’s got a huge upside, and would be a great change of pace while still being a hard hitter as well. A great future in front of him.
7) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB/KR, IUP
We need more help in the secondary, and this speedy back can also return the ball on special teams. With 5 return touchdowns last year seems like an instant special teams upgrade. The fact that this guy might go undrafted seems laughable, his special teams help alone will help. But a CB as well with that speed, well maybe its the madden in me that says please get him niners.
A little constructive critisism
Spikes — I think you said it, but I can’t see him falling all the way to the 49th Overall pick. I think it’s more than a long shot… I don’t think there is any chance.
Shipley — It’s Jordan
Olsen — I don’t get why you have two guards in the draft here. We could use that pick for a CB or DE, NT, OLB etc..
Blount — Slow and has attitude issues
Ansah — Probably not going to be a 7th Rounder. I am thinking more of 3rd to 5th.

6.Anthony Wiseman CB Maryland
7. Danny Batten, South Dakota State - DE
Does what I wrote say that? Or does it say 3rd to 5th Round? I have Ghee 2 slots ahead of Ansah on my board. CB’s go as fast as WR’s do in the draft, so it’s possible. Usually there are about 10 CB’s or more in some cases off the board by the end of Round 3.

First Choice if not available Second choice
1A Joe Haden CB Bruce Campbell OT
1B C J Spiller RB KR Brian Price DT
2 Jerry Hughes DE OLB Jahvid Best RB KR
3 Maurkice Pouncey OC OG Corey Wooton DE
4 Ciron Black OT Donovan Warren CB
5 Jacoby Ford WR KR Roger Saffold OT OG
6 Myron Rolle S Darrell Stuckey S
7 Donald Butler ILB Stafon Johnson RB
I chose Maurkice Pouncey in the third round because hes the best center to come out this year . We also dont know if Cody Wallace will ever be more than a backup in this league . It seems that whenever Ive seen him on the field which was rare anyway , he was always on his backside looking up. Besides Pouncey also plays guard pretty well . Corey Wooton in the third round may not happen and probably wont , but he is still recovering from a knee injury and teams may not be willing to take a chance on him in the first two rounds. We also took Ray McDonald when he was injured, because of his upside . And I would say that it worked out pretty well for us. I also think that Ciron Black will make a great right tackle and will be a steal in round four!!
Im looking for constructive feedback!! MENSA
I don't know about that, to the groin.
OT has to be one of the 1st rounders. If we go Haden, Spiller or Price then there is a big fall off to the next best OT.
OT is the biggest need so I would drop Haden and pick up either Campbell or Bulaga and Spiller with the first two picks

if it works out that way we should get clausen. only 1 qb in the first round, JPP in the top 5 and jackson as the second CB off the board? a lot of this just doesn’t make a lot of sense.
by hellaninersfan on Feb 10, 2010 6:40 PM PST up reply actions
his draft makes almost absolutely no sense
his arguments supporting his choices don’t help out much anyway
Mcshay's explanation for mccoy over suh
“The Rams have a poor track record when it comes to drafting defensive linemen early, and now they have a tough choice to make between the stronger, more instinctive Ndamukong Suh and the quicker, more disruptive McCoy. Coach Steve Spagnuolo is looking for defensive linemen who can penetrate, which is why we think McCoy could be the top overall pick.”-Todd McShay
I am unable to compare the two, because I have only watched Suh.
So is he wrong or right? Does anyone hae McShay’s last mock before the 2009 draft? I have Berry falling to the same spot, maybe I don’t know much either!!
Mocking.............
1a- traded for Eric Berry
1b- CJ Spiller RB Clemson
2 traded to acquire E Berry
3. Calloway, Selvish Capers, Jason Fox
4. Mike johnson OG, John Jerry, Asamoah
5. Stephen Williams, Jacoby Ford, Freddie barnes
6.Anthony Wiseman CB Maryland
7. Danny Batten, South Dakota State - DE
Sorry FloridaDanny, I owe you one, I just don't know what it is!!
Mockin it up/ First 5 picks...
1a- Dez Bryant
1b- CJ Spiller
2- Morgan Burnett
3- Ciron Black
4- Jacoby Ford
Dez Bryant- It’s hard to say with all the talent on the board, and other needs.. that we pick up another receiver “like last year.” But I’m going for offensive power, I like J.Morgan but I don’t want to wait around for him to emerge into something better. I believe in stacking a position and with Bryant out wide left and Crabtree out wide right is a scary thought for any secondary.
CJ Spiller- This is my favorite pick for the 49ers, He is a dynamic player who will help in so many ways. RB/WR/KR/PR he can do it all, and will be a great complement to Gore, eventually becoming his replacement in a couple years. Please grab this guy!!
Morgan Burnett- 6’1 210 lbs/ 227 tckls 14ints in his career at Georgia Tech. He is very modest and believes in hard work, Singletary will like his work ethic. He has good size and likes to hit. I love the thought of having two hard hitting safety’s and with Burnett/Goldson that is exactly what we’ll have.
Ciron Black- With the pick of black in the 3rd I would expect him to come in and work hard to become the starting RT. I know he got beat a couple times by grahm in the senior bowl, but he shows a lot of potential. Maybe keep Sims at RT until Black or someone else shows they deserve the spot. With NFL coaching and an off season to prepare I would hope to see that down field blocking from Black to let our RB’s run free.
Jacoby Ford- Our new KR/PR. He brings speed to our return game. Being a fan of CJ Spiller I would like to see him return some kicks also. But would want it to be Fords job, with spiller on occasion. Not only would he return kicks, but be that speeeed slot receiver that we desperately need to help open up the field. With him streaking down the field it would open up a lot of routes for Bryant and Crabtree.
In conclusion..
I was very proud of the 49ers DEFENSE last year and thought they had a lot thrown at them(being on the field so much) and did a great job. Greg Manusky was good at utilizing all his players on defense and I think our D will only improve. With this mock and the addition of Burnett as a starter will improve our secondary. And hopefully a healthy Nate Clements next year our defense will only get better. Maybe even adding someone in FA, or the later rounds. Or find some talent on our roster like we did with the emerging Franklin and Brooks(Brooks= 14 sacks next year HA). Balmer could be that guy…
When it comes to our offense I was very pleased with some players.. Davis.. Crabs.., but we seemed to struggle on 3rd down. Our line needs to improve and if we manage to hold onto Sims (who did a great job for us) I wouldn’t mined him as our starting RT until someone else steps up, and have Black play RG. Another thing is we’re missing that spark, or “home run threat.” That’s why with this Mock I stressed OFFENSE and with Bryant, Spiller, Ford that is exactly what we get. These players would open up our offense and give us those home run threats. The spread would be unstoppable!
WR2 Bryant TE V.Davis slot WR Ford WR1Crabtree
RB Spiller QB RB Gore
If my dream comes true, Alex Smith will make the pro bowl next year!!
-Thanks for reading, and thanks to all the people who post here, you guys are very knowledgeable and I enjoy reading your post. GO 9ERS!!!!
Regarding Black
Kinda worried there but maybe you have a point. First off Simms doesn’t play the Right he backs up at LT (see: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/teams/depth?team=sfo ) and we have Adam “Turnstile” Snyder as starting RT and Chris Patrick (an entirely unproven commodity) as his backup. I feel that we should find a solid reliable can’t miss guy at RT it’s our biggest need. It worries me to have someone there that we think wil “work hard to become the starting RT”. We could also use some help at OG I feel but hopefully we get some in FA, I’m really hoping we make a play for Amano or some other good guard.

My concern with draft too
We aren’t really addressing our huge need at RT by taking one with question marks in the 3rd. We need a sure fire, starting RT. Also, I like the Spiller pick, but why grab him, AND Ford? And why do you want Ford to return kicks when you have Spiller? Lastly, I’m ok with Bryant pick (prefer not though), but him AND Ford? You are filling up positions with no needs, and that’s not a luxury for us at this moment. To spend a 1st rounder on a COP back, a 1st rounder for WR the 2nd year in a row on and a 4th rounder on a WR just to return punts? I like the offensive focus, but just too much. I like Ford, I like Spiller, I like Bryant, just not on board with all 3.
Sing said that they were looking to get more than one good KR/PR in either FA or the Draft this year
So in that case Spiller and Ford would work.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
I wanna see some speed!!
Spiller and Ford would be the fastest guys on the team. But it is true that we need a sure thing at right tackle. To be honest Black is prob not that guy.. the logical thing to do is grab a RT with one of our first round picks that really has some talent. I just wanted to draft an amazing offense, we need offense!!
Alright here's my Mock Draft with a tad bit of Analysis
Feel free to criticize
1A) Anthony Davis – LT Rutgers
I was never a big fan of Anthony Davis but since scouts have been gushing about his huge potential and run blocking ability after he was able to get healthy again, I put Davis on the spot. From watching highlights of him, he seems to be susceptible to speed rushers and inside moves, but if he can fix those issues and be consistent, he will become a pro bowler.
1B) C.J. Spiller – RB/KR/PR Clemson
Ah where to start with the infamous 5’11 195 lb. blazer with world class speed who seems to be a human highlight film every time he touches the ball whether it be returning punts, kicks, or playing as tailback. Wait I think I just described him…
2) Kareem Jackson – CB Alabama
For all I know, he has been a solid corner for his entire career in Alabama alongside Gilbert Arenas…er Javier Arenas. Has great size for a corner and is the most physical corner in the draft. If you watched the BCS game, he was excellent in coverage and was extremely physical with Jordan Shipley. Scouts have him running a 4.5, but I want to see for myself if he’s capable of running a 4.4 (which I think he is). He’s also good in run support and his size so he should help in that area. Jackson can help SF immediately whether it be as a nickel or starter. This is a huge stretch, but by focusing solely on his technique, Jackson might be able to become a Darelle Revis type player in a few years down the road.
3) Demaryius Thomas – WR Georgia Tech
Tons of potential but lacks polish. In polish I mean route running. He’s not as smooth as he can be coming out of breaks and doesn’t seem to sell his routes very well. He also played in a triple option offense so I’m not sure how much he benefited from that and how it affects his draft positioning. His speed is also questionable, at the next level. In addition, I’m not sure how many routes he ran at tech, but I’m guessing it wasn’t a lot so that could very well affect his draft status. Regardless of every possible negative thing I said about Thomas, Thomas has huge potential and could be a star. He’s 6’3, has great hands, and is just as physical as a receiver can get. He looks a lot like Andre Johnson and Andre Johnson is the best receiver in the league right now.
4) Mike Johnson – OG Alabama
He is a steal if he falls this far, but he is a solid to great all around guard. He can move really well, is a good blocker and a solid pass protector. He has been mocked to go as high as 2nd, but I think he could fall to 4th. He seemed to be rattled in the BCS game, but after he calmed down he started to become a force. Again, I’m not sure he will even make it past 2nd, but the 49ers should take a guard in this draft so I’m leaving Johnson here for now. If Johnson goes before this pick, the 49ers should select Eric Norwood from Southern Carolina because he is the next Dwight Freeney.
5) Sean Canfield – QB Oregon State
He’s tall, accurate, has a good arm, and I believe he ran a pro-style offense at Oregon State. He can read zone coverages well and could develop into a good qb. He will provide competition to Alex Smith, Nate Davis, and Shaun Hill and can maybe show enough in the off-season to stick around the 49ers and become the qb in the future if Alex Smith or Nate Davis don’t take a hold of the position.
6) Keaton Kristic – OLB Oregon State
My goodness. This guy is a STUD. Hes great in run support and is fantastic in coverage. He’s a beast OLB and I know teams rarely threw the ball his way.
7) Dexter Davis – OLB/DE Arizona State
He stock fell after a darn good junior year, after he posted 11 sacks for the 2008 season. This could be due to the fact that Arizona State had a beastly front 7 defense in 2009. Davis could be the answer to Sopoaaga as a starter at DE, or he could be our OLB. Either way, he’s a good passhrusher who should excel in the NFL.
Basically, this draft covers a lot of our needs and although it doesn’t include a Safety and a Tight end, I don’t there are any real good ones by the time we draft. Look out for Anthony McCoy from USC and Dennis Pitta from BYU. They look real good especially Anthony McCoy, but scouts are beginning to rate McCoy as a 1st and 2nd rounder already. I’m not a fan of any of the Safeties this year besides Eric Berry, but next year there should be some good ones in Rahim Moore and DeAndre McDaniel.
The Ultimate Realistic Mock Draft
1A) Anthony Davis - RT Rutgers
1B) C.J. Spiller - RB/KR/PR Clemson
2) Kareem Jackson - CB Alabama
3) Demaryius Thomas - WR Georgia Tech
4) Mike Johnson - OG Alabama
5) Sean Canfield - QB Oregon State
6) Keaton Kristic - OLB Oregon State
7) Dexter Davis - OLB/DE Arizona State
1A) Anthony Davis – LT Rutgers
I understand the selection—it makes sense. I’d prefer Bulaga, Campbell, and Williams for RTs over Davis. Davis seems like he’d be a better fit at G that T in the NFL (problems with kickslide, etc). This does seem rather high for a RT though.
1B) C.J. Spiller – RB/KR/PR Clemson
Love it. Will he be there at 16/17 though? I doubt he will be after the combine.
2) Kareem Jackson – CB Alabama
Nice selection but I doubt he becomes a shut-down Revis-caliber corner. I’d prefer Ghee, Wilson, or Robinson over Jackson also.
3) Demaryius Thomas – WR Georgia Tech
Would absolutely love it but he won’t be there. He’s a large and speedy WR but he’s quite raw. He reminds me of DHB—a Height-Weight-Speed specimen (minus drops and inability to grasp the football). If coached and developed properly, he can very well be a Vincent Jackson, even Andre-caliber WR.
4) Mike Johnson – OG Alabama
Fantastic pick if he’s there but I seriously doubt he’ll fall this far. John Jerry of Miss is a more realistic consideration in the fourth round.
5) Sean Canfield – QB Oregon State
It would be a good pick if we weren’t a team that 1.) is on the verge of the playoffs and can’t afford to drop a valuable backup. We can’t make t 2.) already had Nate Davis as its development QB with huge potential. I don’t think Davis will be ready to be a primary backup, let alone start, in a year.
6) Keaton Kristic – OLB Oregon State
Don’t know much about him but if he’s a dominant force, I doubt he’ll be there. Is he really a late round prospect or a mid round one? If so, Cole of SJSU is more realistic.
7) Dexter Davis – OLB/DE Arizona State
Good pick, but do you really need two late round OLBs? I feel like we have a pretty complete group at OLB.
OVERALL ANALYSIS:
Good draft. Only critique would be no safety or defensive end and some stretched out picks at points in this draft.
Here's hoping 2010 is the end of our drought.
7th round is a toss up
But I do believe OLB is something we will need to address for the future. Haralson is not that good in coverage and will eventually become a 3rd down rush linebacker. Thomas is raw hence the drop to 3rd, and he has even been projected as a 4th down player. Robinson and Wilson could possibly be gone by our pick, but as I said, Jackson is more physical and can shutdown a guy. There is another CB flying under the radar in Domnique Franks and he is potentially better than all the cb’s except Haden. I am having doubts about WIlson and his fluidity in changing direction. His coverage is also an issue for me. Brandon Ghee maybe gone by the time we pick if he indeed runs the fastest 40 time out of all the corners. I drafted a QB because our QB needs to be addressed someway and the 49ers could draft someone to at least challenge for a spot. Keaton Kristic is a stud, but almost every mock I’ve seen him in has him extremely low in the 6th or 7th round.

Ok Berry for some reason drops to # 13
Then we trade our # 16/17 down to around # 25 and find that Bulaga is there for us
in the second round we now have two picks and Spiller, because he was ill and couldn’t do the combine falls to us at our 1st second round pick.. Then we still have the other 2nd rounder for a good OG.

rlott, I am using the same voodoo I recommended to you above. :-)
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
I would as happy as any one else if the 49ers drafted Spiller, but I think that we fans want him more than the 49ers front office does.
Almost every single NFL fan wants Spiller on their team.
Except maybe Baltimore, Jacksonville, and Tennessee fans

- I have concern that none of the three OG candidates may be available at Pick 79. Here’s a way to improve our odds:
Propose to the KC Chiefs (who need WRs for Cassel) that we swap their Round 3 / Pick #68 for our Round 3 / Pick #79 plus their choice of ONE of the following:
• Brandon Jones, age 27, Round 3 / Pick 96 in 2005 by Tennessee
• Jason Hill, age 24, Round 3 / Pick 76 in 2007
• Josh Morgan, age 24, Round 6 / Pick 174 in 2008
• D. Zeigler, age 25, Free Agent in 2007
The difference between Pick 68 (250 points) and Pick 79 (195 points) is 55 points; this equates to a pick at Round 4 / Pick 119 or 120.

Don't think those WRs, especially Morgan is worth only 11 spots in 3rd round.
That’s just crazy. Morgan and a 3rd, should get us at worst, their 2nd.

Apparently there is an unclosed bold html tag somewhere in here and I’d need to delete the first bold comment to fix it. I don’t want to get rid of comments so I figure the problem will be fixed when a new thread opens up.
