Love for "Mad" Mike

I wonder a lot about what type of fans San Francisco really has? I find it vexing that so many of our "Fans" have such short term memories. I continue to look around this site at some of the remarks made in fanposts as well as different articles that appear herein. And all I keep hearing is people downing "Mad" Mike Singletary. Our head coach. Ok....so he's only a "Rah, Rah" coach. Sure....he may not institute a revolutionary defense like the '84 Bears "43". Or install an unstoppable offense like the "WestCoast"/ "Air Coryell" offenses of the past. but, I do know he is a hell of better man than the guys who owned the job before he came along.

Does no one remember the awful teams we fielded with Dennis Erickson? Who was supposed to bring the swagger from his Hurriacanes era. Or how about that clown named Mike Nolan, who was supposed to reinvigorate our defense since he was such a defensive guru. In all the only thing he did was give us a fashion tip as he chose to wear a suit and tie instead of a "hoodie" or team jumpsuit. Both those losers had a great pedigree of coaching excellence. Yet, on the field, neither accomplished anything worthy of note.

"Mad" Mike has only had the reigns of the team for 1 1/2 seasons. But.....he has brought the teams defense back into the upper echelon of the league being ranked #3 against the run since a guy named Young ran our offense. Speaking of our offense, it has sputtured and coughed back to life after not being able to out duel a Pee Wee team for the past 10 yrs. Finally...."Mad" Mike has put his foot down on guys who were veering away from the ideals of what it means to be a Forty Niner. But yet, you "fairweather fans" are unhappy because he isn't an x's and o's kinda guy? GET REAL FOLKS!  Like any player, coaches get better over time and for a guy who was a D Coordinator with a Super bowl ring as his back up, Singletary has only shown steady improvement. Belichick didn't start off on top of the world, (although he will never admit it.). And it took several years of  pain in Tampa Bay and even more years of patience before Tony Dungy was able to fullfill his destiny of a Super Bowl winning coach.

If you need even more examples, look no further than Hall of Famer Mike Ditka. When he took over the Bears, they too sucked big time. Yet, the first thing he had to do was change the mindset of the team, then....make the rest of the changes that brought a championship to Chicago. A place that had missed it for at least 4 decades before Ditka took over. So, get off "Mad" Mike. And either give him your time, support and respect, or get off the bandwagon. And Stay off as "Mad" Mike and the REAL Niner Fans once again march down the main streets of San Fran hoisting the Lombardi trophy.

Out of context

At least here at Niners Nation, I haven’t seen a single post calling Singletary “Mad Mike”.
The people posting here seem to be supporting him.
Early in the season there were some questions, some people saying he was only a good talker and not a real team leader, but that’s definitely gone by now.
I haven’t seen a call for a different coach or a “he should be fired / shouldn’t have been hired” type of comment since October.

I added in paragraph breaks. In the future, for something this long, please use multiple paragraphs, otherwise people won’t read it.

As for “Mad Mike,” isn’t that Mike Martz? I honestly thought that’s who you were talking about with the headline.

I actually think you’re over-reacting to a few negative comments here or there. People are just trying to get a full picture of the man, and that picture is obviously not a perfect one.

From the author.....

Thanks Fooch for the feedback. However, I don’t think the picture on ANY coach can or will EVER be perfect. I just think after reading quite a few posts on here that folks have forgotten what a moribund team the Niners have been and how far Singletary has brought them back. Just askin for a ’lil love for the man.

approval ratings

Have you seen his approval rating around here? People generally seem to love the guy?

I don't hear people complaining about Sing.

His approval rating was through the roof even though the team finished with an 8-8 record.

Is he better than any of the other clowns we’ve had since Mooch?
Yep

Can he improve as a HC?
Absolutely

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Actually I think he has a pretty high approval rate through this site

The only criticizim I have of Singletary is...

He’s a relativily inexperience head coach who’s still learning in some areas. But overall I’m happy with the job he’s done.

Don't trust this guy. He lies.
