100 in 100: Jordan Shipley (61 of 100)
Jordan Shipley, Wide Receiver for the Texas Longhorns was Quarterback Colt McCoy's favorite target without question. These two hooked up several time throughout the course of both of their college careers. In the last two years, the two hooked up for 24 touchdowns which is a lot for that amount of time. They built one of those unique chemistry's that is hard to come by and hard to form. We've seen similar things in the NFL with our own Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, or even Steve Young and Jerry Rice. Shipley will need to end up in a situation similar at the Pro level to find a fair amount of success. I am not sure what he is going to be as far as comparison's or even what position he will end up playing. He could line up as a slot guy, or he could make a push to be a number two guy somewhere like a Wes Welker type of player; although I think of Welker as more of a number one than anything else. Brady and Welker had that same type of chemistry as well.
Shipley's best two years in college were his last two but he played 4 years beginning from his freshman season. Shipley also returned kicks and punts and was successful at both. It will be very interesting to see where Shipley ends up being selected, although I think I have a pretty good idea.
Shipley's stats, highlights, awards and honors, and projection are provided after the jump.
Here are some highlights from Shipley and McCoy at the University of Texas.
AWARDS AND HONORS:

SUMMARY AND PROJECTION:
I think that Shipley will be a good possession receiver in the NFL but I know for sure he will not be selected in the first round and I think it's a pretty big reach if someone takes him in the second round. I believe that Shipley will find his name being called somewhere in the 3rd Round. He is roughly 6'0" 190 LBS.
Possibilities -- 3rd Round: Picks 65-95.

Welker/Austin Collie...
Slot WR role will suit him fine for whomever takes him.
Round 3 sounds right.
I'm a big fan.
I think he may last until 4th. Anyone notice how he got some chances to run the ball Freshman year? Seemed pretty dynamic out of backfield if he was averaging 15 yds per carry. If you take the long carry of 40 yds out, he is still averaging 10 yds a carry.
40 time?
Does anyone know what he ran the 40 in?
Compared to Welker
Shipley was by most accounts a combine bust, running a 4.57 40.
Wes Welker was not invited to the combine but ran a 4.65 40 at Texas Tech’s pro day.
If he slips to the late third/ forth round, this would be a great pick up for the 49ers IMO.
"…during the first half of the 1985 season Rice continued to drop many, many passes when he was wide open."

Yeah but only as a return man
And if we don’t have a S by then, I would be more inclined to take someone like a Reshad Jones, who would likely be more productive in his position and can also return.
Stay local
Niners shouldn’t waste that high of a pick on a possession receiver. Niners should look at local wr Kevin Jurovich from San Jose State in the later rounds. He is the same type of receiver and ran a 4.4 forty today at his pro day. He looked good at the combine in the drills and didn’t drop a single pass at the pro day today. His vert was just over 37 and a broad jump over 10 feet. It will be interesting to see if his workout today gets him some extra attention being that there were at least 20 scouts watching his workout.

Do you know who
i could see picking up shipley is indy he just seems like there type of players good in special teams nice slot reciever no how to find the seems if not indy new england 4 exactly those same reasons .I likie him im a huge texas fan and shipley always played big in big games whether it was taking a punt or kick return back or breaking a bubble screen 4 one a long gain he’s a nice 3 maybe 4th round pick.
He's one of those
types the Welker Mccaffery possession type’s im think’n ……if they could grab in the4th rd theres the punt and kick cat we need …….would love Toby G in the third also ………….
Kewl
Shipley is a sleeper
Living in Austin, I’ve always known about him and liked him. He plays like Belitnikoff did – sure hands, smart and dependable. Used to think it was the chemistry between him and McCoy that counted most but when he caught 2 TDs against Alabama in the BCS Championship from the rookie Gilbert, he became really attractive. He would be a productive pick if he lasted to where the 9ers pick in the 3rd round. In the slot, he would compliment any speed flanker.

Dude knows how to get open
and would be a great slot receiver – a position we don’t have filled right now (otherwise why so much Delanie Walker?)… 3rd rounder is reasonable, particularly since he’ll return kicks, too. That said, a starting Safety, a RT, and LG are bigger needs, and we’ll see if he’s still around.
