Could our RT be hidden on our roster, whats up with ALEX BOONE?
I know he was on the practice squad all year, but I live in OHIO (buckeyez1) and watch alot of OSU and Alex was pretty good in college and his combine #s from last year were right up there with the top linemen in the draft. The only thing that dropped him down in the draft was his off the field problems(drinkin too much beer). One would hope that being on the practice squad for a year would hone his tech. I don't know if this is the answer ,but I thought it would be worth talking about.

I think it’s his footwork that needed some changing. He may be in the mix, but even in preseason last year, he was getting beat pretty badly. He’s a physical beast, I’d love for him to get everything together and turn out well though.

I wonder...
the exact same thing. If he can play at guard, you can throw him in for depth and let him develop his technique without worrying about somebody grabbing him from the PS.

He's going to be competing for the backup OT spot.
Probably with Chris Patrick or Bary Sims (if he’s re-signed).
Maybe if he shows some major improvement he’ll earn the starting job, but I doubt it.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.
I think that Solari will be able to get Boone on track.
I would love to see him come through and play more at a high level.

Hmmm...
Good question, I always wondered how his development would go…It would be interesting to see if he’s progressed at all. I thought him and Sheets were savvy picks, I was bummed when the Fins signed Sheets…
i was bummed too..
until i started reading articles on why the niners made the decision..sheets ran all right, but didn’t do other important things needed at the position. Primarily this was picking up blocks on the blitz…qb’s get seriously injured when guys whiff like that..Plus, I never really saw sheets’ pass catching abilities out of the backfield..he didn’t play any special teams…and when he went to the fins I don’t think he played at all..i’m not losing sleep over this decision..its the midseason rossum cutting that has me wondering if they’d be in the playoffs had he stayed and presumably stayed/got healthy or had they traded for a kr/pr.
"qb's get seriously injured when guys whiff like that"
Just ask Steve Young. Basically his career was ended by a RB not blocking on pass protection. It sucks to think back on that.
I know!
Whenever someone says “RBs don’t need to block they only need to run” I reply that Steve Young would beg to differ haha
Whenever someone says “RBs don’t need to block, they only need to run” I don’t talk about football with them anymore.
I know what I'm talking about, I started at right guard for the 1992 College Park Falcons.

i hope he is
he is huge. He could be a good RT. The team will probably be watching him with the new O-line coaches and hopefully can crack the roster
Go 49ers
Age and experience
He is only 22… he has some years to develop in to something good eventually.

This is true...
and where we got him, he could be a career backup and that’d be fine. The question is, can he step in and be a legitimate starter at RT this year and save us the trouble of using an early pick at tackle. If that’s the case, we could solidify some other positions early and be set for a long time.

Takeo Spikes
said he has got the better of him at times in practice. So he does have potential. They need to take him off the practice squad though if he does have that potential so nobody else steals him from us.

WHat about Chris Patrick?
And also both he and Boone are listed on the roster on ESPN (I know it’s in no way “Official” but that would seem to indicate he’s not on PS).

I dont know about Chris Patrick. He is somewhat small for a tackle (280). It’s good to be mobile at that position, but when defenses can chuck you cause you’re too light, that may not work out well. He may be a practice squad guy next year and they may promote Boone to a back up role on the 53.

Oh yeah he's small huh?
Hey then let’s trade him to the Colt’s for a 6th! LOL

Good to hear
We also have a competent OL coach for a change, so I’m hopeful that he’ll come along. Still think we should grab a RT in the 2nd or 3rd though because we’re not gonna be able to make the judgement before the draft.

Sims
seems like he’ll leave and go be with Foerster. This is going to leave us down 2 tackles and with Snyder the only RT on the roster who played at all last year. That’s not good.
I don’t want to enter the draft needing two Tackles. I hope Solari and Ray Brown can work some magic on these kids. Sure would give us some flexibility in who we draft. Wonder what Solari is telling the FO/Singletary about what he thinks of the guys currently on the roster/PS?

I hope he’s telling them to draft him a better guy….

sure would be nice
if the new OL coach was hired in time to actually practice with the current OL’s before FA/Draft time. That way he really knows what he has to work with (or get rid of).
