Maiocco reports McCloughan considering stepping down as GM
Sorry to ManBearPig21, but I don't have the power to promote your FanShot to the front page. Either way, this is some weird news, let's wait around and see what happens, shall we?

Was gonna do a story with a bit more info
MIchaelClutchtree also posted the same info
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
There's not really a bit more info.
I don’t know, usually Fooch will just grab it and promote it until the story story comes out. But be my guest on handling the story when it’s all said and done.
And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
I might try to put something together on the broader implications for tomorrow morning
that might be the best way to handle it.
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Yeah. If something else happens tonight, feel free to either update this with more info
a la “Smileymans note: Maiocco is…” etc. If I’d have known you were doing something I would have let you to it, but obviously I didn’t know or anything, haha. Side note, did you ever get that microphone?

Do You
think something is going to happen tonight? Like a midnight surprise? Or are we going to have to wait until tomorrow? I hope something happens soon, i don’t want to be left in the dark tonight.

Absolutely
the wrong time for this. If the 49ers did force Scott M out, why did they wait until so late in the game? We are in the midst of an important off-season for this franchise and only weeks away from the draft. What type of stability does this show? Absolutely none

Horrible timing whether it was initiated by the Niners or McCloughan

If
initiated by Scott M, then i want him out of the organization yesterday. If initiated by the 49ers, i want and demand an explanation RIGHT NOW

Maybe Singletary is angling for a dual GM/Coach job?

Terrible idea
It didn’t work for Nolan and won’t work for Sing.
by 9thevolution on Mar 18, 2010 8:35 AM PDT up reply actions
I can't sing pushing for that
Singletary already had a hard time taking the head job spot from Nolan, plus I think he realizes he doesn’t have the eye for the talent. Because when Willis was drafted, he admitted that he didn’t see what Scotty saw….
I don't think he'd make a good talent guy
As far as running the rest of things I think he’d do just fine. Just wouldn’t trust him in evaluating talent.
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Yeah, I think he's a good businessman.
I really do. Great negotiator, etc…. but not someone I’d want to have the job of GM.

Here's the pertinent bits from Maiocco's blog
McCloughan met Wednesday behind closed doors with the 49ers’ upper management at the 49ers’ team offices in Santa Clara, sources said. The group included Jed York, executive vice president of football and business operations Paraag Marathe, vice president of football affairs Keena Turner and Michael Rossi, a retired vice chair of BankAmerica Corp., who works as a senior advisor to the 49ers.
McCloughan left the 49ers’ team offices after the meeting and files were relocated from his office this afternoon.
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
That is exactly
what i said in the original fan shot. If this is proven true, then it appears Scott M was forced out. Have to wait for more information before i jump to an end conclusion. That said i see it pointing to him being forced out.

So...
Sing obviously wanted Spiller and McC wanted no part of him.. so he steps down? That’s a bit much.
Why buy the cow, when you get the sex for free?
by return2greatness on Mar 17, 2010 10:11 PM PDT reply actions
Could be it
Could be that Sing wanted Spiller and Iupati and McC says—Spiller’s too small a RB and I don’t want to draft a guard in the first round which led to a power struggle.
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Or McCloughan could have done something bad.
And it’s on a timed trigger for the media.

Why buy the cow, when you get the sex for free?
by return2greatness on Mar 17, 2010 10:18 PM PDT reply actions
Most likely thing would be a power clash
Sing wanting to draft certain guys and McCloughan saying no and the owners siding with Sing
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Would have been one hell of clash if the bosses had to fly back all the way from London early to fire someone. Disputes over the draft board 40 days prior to draft seem like an over dramatic response.
I think it’s something else. Like he got caught talking to another team about a job, served with another tampering charge, etc. . . . if the resignation rumor is true.
Why side with Sing? McC has been pretty good IMO. Who says Sing is a better evaluator of talent? What If we pick the players Sing wants and they suck?!?! I can’t deal with this right now!!!!

I'm not buying that.
If McC is GM then he should have final say no matter what. I love Sing as a coach but let’s be real… this is the guy who admitted telling Nolan that he didn’t think Willis was that good when they drafted him.

Well, I don't mean to discredit Maiocco.
He is one of the best on the 49ers scene, but what I’m saying is Maiocco has sources he trusts. We trust Maiocco to be a reporter, but we don’t know a whole lot about how he evaluates people. I wasn’t speaking to this particular event, I’m just saying… yes, this kind of stuff is made up CONSTANTLY. But I’m still up for a reason, and that reason is that Maiocco said that something big was going down tonight.

C. McC is being forced out, not stepping down.

Agent: McCloughan won’t voluntarily step down
Scot McCloughan’s agent says the 49ers general manager has no plans to step down from his post. “Scot McCloughan is not resigning as general manger of the San Francisco 49ers,” Peter Schaeffer said in a brief telephone conversation. Schaeffer said he had spoken to McCloughan five minutes earlier.
News of a possible resignation was reported earlier this evening by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, which, citing sources, reported that McCloughan, 38, was considering stepping down from his position. According to the report, McCloughan met with top 49ers officials Wednesday afternoon, including president and CEO Jed York and Paraag Marathe, the team’s vice president of football operations. The report goes on to say that McCloughan left the facility this afternoon and files were relocated from his office. It is not known what prompted the meeting.
If McCloughan were to step down – or more likely, if he were forced out – the 49ers would be without their top football decision maker five weeks before an NFL draft in which they have two first-round picks. The top candidates to succeed him would be Trent Baalke, the director of player personnel and Tom Gamble, the director of pro personnel. Marathe, who has handled player contracts in recent years, would be a candidate to run the business side of the operation.

It’s what he didn’t say . . . like he is the the 49ers GM, no questions, instead of qualifying it. He is an agent right? You’d think he’d know how to squash the rumor if completely false.
It also doesn’t say that McCloughan wasn’t considering it. It just says that he’s not going to do it.

This is not good
for stability purposes and the fact that I agree with McCloughan’s philosophy. We need big players because they provide durability to the team. This is not a good sign for the 49ers especially since I don’t see any good replacements. In addition, why not let a GM do his job? You hired him to run the player operation so why have a power clash with him? For Jimmy Clausen? Next year’s draft is DEEP with QB’s. You’ve got a ton of great qb’s coming out in 2011 like Jake Locker, Jacory Harris, Andrew Luck, Ryan Mallett, Pat Devlin, and Case Keenum. Why settle for a guy in Jimmy Clausen who seems to be missing the it factor? Plus I think we NEED to see what we at the very least in Alex Smith right now.

It Has
been reported that Scott M has had issues at team functions etc… with drinking, but that cannot possibly be entirely sure. If he is having issues handling himself that is an issue because he does represent and should represent the organization with the utmost class. As it is this should be an in house thing and that is why the “rumors” have not received much play in the media, simply because no one within the organization will speak on or off the record about it. Of course this is just my take.

Fooch is out of town

Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Man that reminds me of the last time I was in Vegas. I drove from Houston to Nevada straight 20 hours for work, en route to the bustling biker gang mecca of Ely, NV. My boss told me just to grab a hotel room and stay in Vegas so I could grab some supplies for our oilfield survey job. Problem was I was 19 at the time, with my boss’ dog, and that posed a serious problem- you either have to be 21 to book a room in Vegas, or not have a mutt with you. After like 2 hours of driving around looking for a room, I was about to pass out from exhaustion, and finally pulled up to some scummy motel across from the MGM Grand called the ‘Happi Inn.’ Being a naiive teenager, I didn’t find anything suspicious when the hotel manager asked how many hours I’d be at the motel for, and charged me based on that. Needless to say, the horror show that was my room turned me off of that city for the rest of my life.

every time I’m down there he puts me up for free.
Nice thing about driving to Vegas is that the Nevada cops don’t care how fast you’re going as long as you’re heading towards Vegas I once passed a cop going 95 mph and he just waved at me.
Coming back the other way is a different story
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Man, I think that’s true for all of Nevada. After that night I was driving as fast as I could to get to Ely, all truck windows down, trying to get the smell of Happi Inn off me. I was pulled over by the state trooper outside Ely going 30 MPH over the limit, and when he came up to me, I explained I was Canadian and I was thinking kilometers. He let me off. About 5 minutes later when I was actually in Ely, I was going maybe 15 over the limit because it dropped super quick without noticing, and was pulled over again. For some grace of God, I was let off scott free by that one too.

I’m a history buff and even though I can suspend disbelief for most historical movies I just couldn’t do it for that one.
I realize it was based on the graphic novel, but I still hated it.
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
I guess..
at the time i hadn’t really seen a butt kickin movie for a while and i needed to see some hard core but kicking and that was delivered
Loosely based on the graphic novel… which is roughly 3 pages long.
The historical stuff didn’t bother me. Basically everything that happened within the city limits of Sparta did bother me.

I'm at San Luis Obispo for college
I wore red today. I noticed that I’d never be able to do that back home.
Oh I'm having a blast here.
Going to be done by the end of summer though so I’ll be sad to leave.
This talk about clothing colors reminds me of the time one of my Mormon friends got in trouble for gang activity because the JHS campus security thought she was wearing too much red.
yeah
i went to johansen.. i had an awesome pair of shoes during my sophmore year.. wait wat am i saying.. i always have awesome pairs of shoes… well anyways they had red shoe laces so i had to go change them..
I remember the little Hello Kitty-like frog shoelaces were banned at Teel.
When did you graduate from Johansen?
2008
I hated my experience at Teel.. I went there for 7th grade after leaving Stroud Elementary.. I had bad anxiety attacks that had me in the office everyday crying to go home.. pathetic but yet it was tough on me.. i’m good now
Teel is tough on anybody.
Pretty good teachers while I was there but the rest of the management was awful.
I was class of 05. Heard things changed a lot after I left.
yeah..
my first 2 years there everything stayed pretty much the same but people starting whining about health so slowly they took everything worth eating away lol.. first the student store stopped selling candy, the bottled sodas weren’t sold.. they switched from pizza hut pizza to organic cardboard flavored pizza.. it was terrible.. forced us into selective eating lol
Alright that's pretty sad.
Especially considering they started doing all the fast food and candy stuff while I was there. Didn’t take them long to take it all away.
sounded like a great job to have
the way i see things.. if you have a job that you don’t make any contact with ghetto people your making pretty good money :)
Do they still have the carnival in the summer

Friend of my dad's bought a meth house after the cops raided it.
There were definitely telltale signs of usage.
when you say he bought a meth house after cops raided it.. you mean the house was already cleaned out and foreclosed right??
Foreclosed
Somewhat cleaned out.
Meaning there was cat poo everywhere and the bathroom was pretty much destroyed. Basically the cops came in and took all the drugs and anything that could be used to make more. Furniture was removed too, although that’s assuming there was any to begin with.
Doors were just trashed from when the police broke through because the guy was so paranoid he had two or three deadbolts on all the interior doors. Cameras out back for surveillance on his shed where he was growing pot.
Nice place once we fixed it up, but that took nearly a year to do.
dang..
cat poop is the worst too.. did you think the cops left a dead body in the house when you guys walked in and smelled the horrid cat mess?? lol
It wasn't too bad.
I think it was just one room that was like that.
The bathroom definitely smelled like there were chemicals mixed though. Haven’t used it since so I don’t know if they ever got the smell out.
Really. I live down by Enochs High.

But each one gets better and better. I’d love to be an administrator/moderator of some sort on a community like this, but I couldn’t for the life of me come up with a decent article worth anything insightful.
But you guys who can do a great job of it.
Come on over and help start up the community at my mag's website.
Haha.
And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Maybe
I can’t make any promises of course, especially since I’m still in school, but despite all the things I supposed to be doing I still find a way to make myself bored somehow.
What is this mag about? Sorry if you’ve explained it to others here before.
Oh I probably couldn't help much.
I specialize in “general” posts. Which is pretty much why I’ve probably made more posts in this thread than in all the other threads combined. I’d also abuse my mod powers because it’s just more fun that way.
Ahaha, I was mostly joking.
I haven’t even linked the site here. I don’t want to be one of “those” people who promote their stuff elsewhere.
And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
lmao sorry jveezy!
Did you want a link or something?! ‘Cause I’d post it if asked!
And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
No I just seized the opportunity to post that gif.
I have enough communities to deal with online between here and StR and others. Also that school thing that keeps nagging at me.
I have a final tomorrow and I’m here posting at 1:33AM about absolutely nothing.
i don’t know why, i just say 9..… Fooch won’t put me on the front page :( :( maybe this will show him. JK

Good morning!
LondonNiner checking in on the train into work. As a member of the Legendary David Carr thread I couldn’t miss this latest open riff chat. So what gives? We signed Madonna and ScottMac has resigned because Ninjames wants us to draft a Las Vegas lesbian? Or did I misunderstand?

You got it pretty close.
Don’t forget that Ninjames is undoubtedly a playa, Howie doesn’t like fun, Fooch is short and something about beastiality. But for the most part you got it right, I wish you could have been around for the whole thing, but being in a completely inferior country/time zone.. well…

Let's see
guaranteed health care, pound stronger than the dollar, guaranteed 4 weeks paid vacation every year (or is it only 3?), consumer protection laws that let you take back CDs if you don’t like ’em.
Of course you have to put up with bad food and lousy teeth.
Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010
Oh My
You would think with that universal healthcare the royal family could afford a dental plan

There is that
Maybe it’s like US based health care plans where they don’t cover dental at all

Pretty Close
Don’t forget the movie 300 won’t be historically accurate until it adds a scene with Richard Gere and his gerbil.
We got news
Scratch that . . . just Tim’s article.
If McCloughan is headed out as 49ers GM, could Jed York make himself football czar?
After reading that I’m dumbfounded.. if Jed York becomes the Jerry Jones of San Francisco I’ll go nuts.
Hopefully Jed carries out the same
philosophies McCloughan had… Or else this roster will possibly be so unbalanced, it will tear the team apart and the 49ers will be built like the Warriors.
My Ultimate Realistic Mock Draft for 49ers
1A) Anthony Davis - RT Rutgers
1B) C.J. Spiller - RB/KR/PR Clemson
2) Kareem Jackson - CB Alabama
3) Demaryius Thomas - WR Georgia Tech
4) Mike Johnson - OG Alabama
5) Sean Canfield - QB Oregon State
6) Keaton Kristic - OLB Oregon State
7) Dexter Davis - OLB/DE Arizona State
Well..
If all else fails and the draft isn’t what any of us hoped for than we can blame everything on Jed..
and i hope that he pulls through for us if he becomes GM as well
I Could See It Now
with the 13th pick the 49ers select Tim Tebow
with the 17th pick the 49ers select Jimmy Clausen
York “You can never have enough QB’s” God that is going to give me a nightmare tonight… even worse than the Richard Gere, Bestiality, Lesbian, 300 combination

if that was the case
as soon as those picks were made I’d call the cops, because Jed would be bound to get arrested for position of hallucinogen.

If he gave us an especially deep Physics lesson one day
he’d finish it off by saying, “If you want to know more, you can go to this place on 9th street. It’s called The Brave Bull.”
Best part
Someone drove by it and recognized the name so they parked and walked up to check it out and reported back to the entire class saying “Uh. I went to that place last week. Sign on the front door says ‘Homosexual bar and grill.’” And when it finally clicked that Tricky D (that’s what we called him) used a gay bar as an Easter egg in his lectures it totally cracked us up.
I doubt anyone went for a Physics lesson or to even check it out.
I think it was just a drive-by “Hey isn’t that the place Tricky D keeps mentioning?” type thing.
I’d have to say he was probably the funniest teacher I had there. Also in hindsight, being able to sleep through my college physics classes because of what I learned in his class made me realize after the fact how good of an actual teacher he was too.
quite a character huh??
I never understood his condition.. he seemed to tall to be a midget but too short to be average.. plus he isn’t even Mexican lol just kidding everyone who is of Mexican decent “my gf is 100% Mexican, not even legal and that’s the truth” .
I think he told us he was missing half a chromosome.
So I think it was just stunted growth or something. He said that in response to someone saying “Like Mr. Hammari” during a lesson about drawing tall people and short people.
f'd up ..
I would never insult someone like that..
Yeah i could understand why he would have that condition if he was missing half a chromosome
He actually took it pretty lightly.
It was all in fun. He said some other joke about his height in response as well but I can’t remember what it was.
Isn't that place not there anymore?
I have bad memories about that area, and no it’s not related to the actual brave bull or anything surrounding it lol.
And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
No, I just mean.
There was something that happened outside of there. Someone close to me, etc.
And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
oh really.. i'm sorry man
My girlfriend lives by there and i hate having to go into that area each day because it’s so ghetto and most of the people living around there are gangsters or hate the world
Well
i am going to bed, have a lot of crap to do tomorrow. I surely hope me going to bed means that i am actually waking up from this nightmare…

You can always retake your classes.
I refuse to take Calculus ever again.
It’s really sick that they make people take that class.

I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice.
