Someone really wants Chester Pitts on the 49ers??

After looking like a fool "with my pants on the ground" with that post of what I'd think Singletary would go for in the draft I thought to myself that I have to be a little more insightful with my posts. So here is something to look forward to for those who wouldn't mind having Chester Pitts play for the 49ers.

Apparently Takeo Spikes really wants Pitts on the team. After the jump you'll see the hard evidence I have to back this up.

Star-divide

On Takeo Spikes Twitter page I noticed he sent a couple messages back and forth with Pitts, encouraging him to join the 49ers. Here is one of them, as seen in the link below.

Here is Chester Pitts' Twitter page if you browse through the first page of Tweets you'll see a few conversations he had and some things he had to say about how everything as gone so far during his time spent here.

somebody

has to go to block for the NN groupie’s favorite SPILLER* on the 5-7 running plays he’ll have maybe.

*if drafted before OL, DB/S, OLB, KR/PR, DL

by 11allstar on Mar 20, 2010 3:59 PM PDT reply actions

Spiller would be the KR/PR

And if we signed Pitts then we could focus on RT and safety with our other first and the second round pick. I think OLB and DL are secondary needs as we have solid if not spectacular players at those positions.

Good

I hope he signs here

I miss Joe Montana/Steve Young/Jeff Garcia

drafting a KR/PR in the first round

worked for the Bears but we have other needs that can be readily addressed in the first like, OL and DB (CB/SS). There are soooo many KR/PR’s out there that to take a BU RB/KR/PR in the first wouldn’t make sense.

I like Spiller. But I love Best.

If neither of those are available (and most likely wont) there will be plenty of guys out there in rounds 4/5/6 to address this need.

by masa11284 on Mar 21, 2010 12:49 AM PDT reply actions

It worked for the Bears one season. 1st round picks are suppose to be blue chip players for the franchise at least 4 years and hopefully 6-8 years. KR/PR have a shelf life around 2 1/2 years. Hester isn’t a returning anymore. He’s an average 3rd WR on a Bears roster with gaping holes.

To add on, no one outside N.O. thinks Reggie Bush is worth $4 million let alone the $8 million they are going to pay him. He is maybe in the upper tier of returners and sadly that is now 50% of his job because COP backs are gimmicks and easily thwarted by defenses once they have some tape on the plays going to be called.

by bignerd on Mar 21, 2010 2:41 AM PDT up reply actions

I disagree

I think COP backs are more than “gimmicks” right now as teams look for anyway to give them an advantage. If they can add the occasional game changing play then it is definately worth a shot. Bush is much more valuable for N.O. than other teams as they know how to scheme to put him in the best situations.

And with Spiller I think he would be starting in two to three years, as it is only a matter of time before Gore becomes too battered to continue. The pick would help both in the present and the future.

by Joshuahss on Mar 21, 2010 9:53 AM PDT up reply actions

CJ Spiller will be 23 in august.

If he’s starting in 2 years, he’ll be 25.
Frank Gore is currently 26 and you think he’ll be done in 2 years?

By that logic, Spiller would only be a starter for 3 years before he’s replaced?

1st round pick on a 3year starter?
No thank you.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Turns 27 in May, and yep!

by Drew Kerr on Mar 21, 2010 1:26 PM PDT up reply actions

This is where I disagree

if we get Spiller and use Gore like we did last year he’s got another 4 years left in him. Long as we keep his carries to 250 a year or less he’s good for a few more years.

I don’t think so, LT started to drop off around that age and he was healthy more than Gore has been in the same stage of his career. I think he’s got two years max before he starts the fizzle out…. even if we got Spiller.

by Drew Kerr on Mar 21, 2010 5:24 PM PDT up reply actions

LT is 30 now

When he was 27 he had his best year rushing ever. I think he’ll turn in a 1000 yard season next year and maybe one more after that behind that Jets O-line. Gore is 25 and has had far fewer carries than LT.

2009—223 attempts, 730 yds. 3.3 ypc
2008—292 attempts, 1,110 yds, 3.8 ypc
2007—315 attempts, 1,474 yds, 4.7 ypc
2006—348 attempts, 1,815 yds, 5.2 ypc
2005—339 attempts, 1,462 yds, 4.3 ypc

There's no need for you to post stats

I look them up before I comment if I am unsure of something. The last two years, there was a major drop of in production. Look at his YPC and YPG.

Yeah LT had a good year when he was 27. Gore is 27 in May. So 2 years from now…even next year, he’ll be at the same age LT was when the decline started happening.

Nope

Born May 14th, 1983… that’s 26. He will be 27 like I said above.

Still very young.

And in his prime.

OL fell off before he did

If Berry falls to 7....#7, #39, #71 = 2245 pts 49ers #13, #17, #141 = 2235 pts

1. E Berry 2a) M Gilyard, 2b) Calloway 3a) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah 3b) J Jerry/M Johnson OG 4. Deji Karim 5. Rafael Priest 6. Alex Daniels 7. Josh Hull

Gore has nowhere near as many carries as LT

And I doubt he will be close when he turns 30.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Mar 23, 2010 11:16 PM PDT up reply actions

By that logic though, why draft a RB in the first round?

Spiller would start 4-5 years?

If I were GM, I'd be looking at making the defense a top 5 defense.

by rlott#42 on Mar 21, 2010 3:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Huh?

Read it again. He asks “you think he’ll be done in 2 years?” .. I said “yep”. Where do you get 4-5 years out of that?

I think he's talking about Spiller

why draft a RB in the first round that will be done in 4-5 years?

Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010

by smileyman on Mar 21, 2010 5:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I dont see how he would be done 4-5 years. I expect Gore’s production to start declining after next season. And if Spiller ended up being like a Chris Johnson or even a poor man’s version, it would be a good idea to trade Gore while there is a bit of value. The Chargers got nothing cause they had to sign him to a big contract when they shouldn’t have. And it’s a good thing for them that there was no penalty to outrigh release him; that may not be the case and there may be a cap in place when it’s time for Gore to go.

by Drew Kerr on Mar 21, 2010 6:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Chargers made a mistake of not taking high value for LT and keeping Turner.

If Berry falls to 7....#7, #39, #71 = 2245 pts 49ers #13, #17, #141 = 2235 pts

by Drew Kerr on Mar 21, 2010 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions

This just seems ridiculous to me.

But that’s just your opinion.

I think Gore is a far superior RB when compared to Spiller.
We can never agree as long as I believe this.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Mar 23, 2010 11:18 PM PDT up reply actions

If Spiller proved himself early on, chances are Gore would be traded in a year or so… at least that would be the smart thing to do. If you have another RB getting the job done or who is capable, get rid of the other one while there is still any value on the table.

Too many freaks, not enough circuses.

i'm not surprised

imagine what VD and Crabs could do with a little Pitts

"All during film, I'm calling him Bam-Bam, like from 'The Flintstones,' because he hits everything. He is the truth" - Chad Ochocinco on Patrick Willis

I know this has nothing 2 do pitts but i was looking

in scout.com and karl paymah ran a 2.44 at the combine plus he made all-city in high school at receiver and ran track .Yea he hasn’t really made a impact in the NFL but he has talent and again this has nothing 2 with pits but i feel paymah has some worth whether it be on ST or in dime packages maybe run him in some receiver packages with that speed.

by jayjonna415 on Mar 21, 2010 8:14 PM PDT reply actions

2.44 in the 20 yard dash, right?

But yea, he is definitely fast. I will be interesting to see what are coaches due with him, be they put him in slot, or PR/KR. They should really make use of his speed

by J L Perez on Mar 21, 2010 10:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, he is. but he was a receiver in high school, and with his speed maybe we could give him a try at KR/PR, or Slot. It’s not likely to happen, since it looks like he was brought in to replace Hudson.
