Niners Nation conduct and general decency

Over the weekend, we had a situation develop where individuals were attacking each other on extremely personal levels. I do understand that things can get heated, but the upside to posting on the Internet is that if somebody says something that bugs you, you can take a moment to think about your response and hopefully take the higher road. Unfortunately that is not always the case.

This is not a matter of who was right and who was wrong. That will only lead to further bickering. Instead, I simply want to reinforce the general code of conduct we have at Niners Nation.  When you join the site you have to agree to our Membership Agreement/Community Guidelines. I know most people don't bother reading it so I'm going to just mention it again.

The first sentence includes the phrase "please be respectful of your fellow readers." I realize that might be vague for some folks, but just to clarify, that means no personal attacks. If you have a problem with the way somebody expresses their opinions, you can state this, but do not call them an idiot or belittle their general existence. Make your opinion in a respectful tone and then move on.  On the other hand, if someone does attack you, that does not give you the right to respond in an equally childish manner. If you feel the need to respond, again, be respectful. Personal attacks simply not acceptable EVER. I don't think I can be any more clear.

Or as Dalton said, "Be Nice." And as far as when the time comes to not be nice, it only exists in game and draft threads (A small bit of language in this clip). Remember, we're all on the same team when it comes to the 49ers. We love this team and only want the best for them. If anybody has any questions, post them in the comments or email me at ninersnation@gmail.com.

guess I missed that thread… come on people – be nice.

If you don't like Brandon Medders you're not a true fan.

It was in several threads

but the bulk of it was in the spammer thread.

I definitely thought it was of poor taste

And then it really became a bit of a game for people i suspect trying to bait people into personal attacks

by HaloFanInDC on Mar 22, 2010 12:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I missed it, too, right until the very end. I guess people were so pissed off about their brackets that they just had to take it out on each other.

It’s ridiculous that I’m in the 92nd percentile with a bracket that has a maximum of, like, 600 possible total points.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

Thank you for this reminder

It is disturbing to read the name-calling.

by FanBelge on Mar 22, 2010 11:43 AM PDT reply actions

This is a good reminder.

Hopefully some of the assistant coaches take notice. They seem to be some of the biggest offenders.

by Natural Red on Mar 22, 2010 11:51 AM PDT reply actions

I feel as though they were some of the most active peacekeepers in the recent thread, personally.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

Wondering who you're talking about...

Sorry I tried to keep it at a minimal.

If Berry falls to 7....#7, #39, #71 = 2245 pts 49ers #13, #17, #141 = 2235 pts

1. E Berry 2a) M Gilyard, 2b) Calloway 3a) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah 3b) J Jerry/M Johnson OG 4. Deji Karim 5. Rafael Priest 6. Alex Daniels 7. Josh Hull

thanks

i actually really enjoy the relatively loose dialogue that you let take place here. i signed up for Golden state of mind a little after i had for this one, and my first post was about how terrible Captain Jack was for our team at the beginning of the season and dropped a C-bomb (c—p, is that even considered a cuss word anymore??) and i was warned for violating the blog rules three times, suspended from commenting for 3 days and warned that if it happened again, i would be banned. So consider you offenders here lucky to still be here

by itsAteamGAME on Mar 22, 2010 11:57 AM PDT reply actions

I’m not sure what word you’re talking about. C…p? I’ll give you a one-time exception on the swearing rule if you tell me just so I know what you’re talking about. I’ll let you know if it violates our standards.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by howtheyscored on Mar 22, 2010 12:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh… crap? Heck no, man. Say that word.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by howtheyscored on Mar 22, 2010 12:04 PM PDT up reply actions

You should have scene my thought process on this one. The word crap was so far away from my list of questionable words that it didn’t even come to mind. I was all like, “Cunp? Cocp? Crackep? What the hell could it be… ?”

I don't know about that, to the groin.

You should have seen it, too…. :(

If your are interested:

I am offering to help you improve your writing. I am not a particularly good writer, but I have had some experience teaching inmates at a minimum-security prison how to write well enough to pass the GED test. They were very successful with a 90% pass rate. If you would like to give it a try, contact me at bjcornelius65@yahoo.com. There was a time when I was completely embarrassed to have anyone read anything I wrote, but I learned how to write well enough to get by, and you can too.

Below is a fun-exercise for all. Off the subject a little but worth reading.

Strange comment!

I was seriously offering assistance because I was once where he is now.

by CorneliusJ on Mar 22, 2010 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I suppose it came off as a little offensive.

Likening to inmates and the like, I just wasn’t sure if this was the place for that. I don’t know.

And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

by James Brady on Mar 22, 2010 3:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Teaching inmates was my job.

I only mentioned it because that was where I got the experience teaching “writing for the GED.” I am now retired and have the time to do a little teaching online.
BTW: These were very normal guys (minimum security) who did nothing more than make a "mistake." I regarded most of them as friends

by CorneliusJ on Mar 22, 2010 3:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I dont think that is the way he meant it

He was simply stating his background and then offered his help privately which I thought to be a noble geture. I don’t know, that’s the way I interpreted it.

I did happen to notice some flack flying this weekend.

That isn’t the sport I’m interested in, so I always move on but I think that’s an important standard with this forum. Getting personal takes away from the objectivity of these thoughts we’re passing around and the quality suffers. Responding emotionally will build up a bias between people and that may carry on between them each time they post. You don’t want someone following you around, waiting for something they can pounce on, right? Best to keep it at an intellectual level – no grudges, no payback, no high blood pressure,…

I totally agree thats why i apoligized first to the niner nation

first because more than 99% of the people come on here to talk and argue ( respectfully ) about the niners and ‘’ I ’’ drug them into a gang fight starring me and a few others and that wasn’t cool at all .Regardless if felt i was being disrespected or not theres a way of going about things and going ‘’ eye 4 a eye ’’ is not it so i hope the nn and the individuals i was argueing with can let this be water under the bridge and get back 2 the niners the draft is getting close and as 4 me i got side-tracked im bigger than that and now its time for my character 2 do the talking not my words ’’.

by jayjonna415 on Mar 22, 2010 2:05 PM PDT reply actions

You were the bigger man today, Jay.

You apologized, and now I hope we can all move on and enjoy Niners Nation, because all of us on the front page work really hard making it as good as we possibly can.

NinersNation is still the shizzle...

whoops! i mean the best, #1 in my book. The best thing about bloggin here at NN is at the end of the day, we all love our 49ers.

I think know the guys that comment on here are way smarter than that, and even though i might not agree with everything, or you agree with me, I still like to see the opinions from everyone (and the stream links on game day), instead of just reading people call each other bafoons. If you, a 49er fan, needs to go online to argue another 49er fan, you need something better to do. C’mon guys this isnt http://www.silverandblackpride.com/ . Now a Raider fan, thats worth a few breaths and a few laughs.

Sorry everyone I’ve acted like a bit of a tool as well. Won’t happen again. I am just frustrated. As a Canadian I am quite fond of CFL alumnus Jeff Garcia and it has been devastating to hear David Carr will wear his #5. I took the news hard, but each and every day gets a little better. My apologies for taking it out on other commenters.

Yep, sure was a good game.

Especially because the US had no place being where they were. They took Canada to OT on their home turf when they weren’t even supposed to finish top five. I was happy, haha.

Do most of the people in the Bay Area cheer for the Sharks? Ugh, I hate the Sharks. Diehard Flames fan, although sadly they fell apart earlier this season and will probably miss the playoffs

I'd be a Sharks fan even if I wasn't in the bay area.

Just love the organization.

Remembering to put the toilet seat down.

Or treating others the way you want to be treated.

Geez, generally speaking, people are idiots.

"Sometimes"?

I thought that was their calling card. Of all the pro-league teams that are awesome in the regular season and suck in the playoffs, I can’t think of one that is a better example than the Sharks.

The Sharks =\ So painful to follow.

That movie is a guilty pleasure of mine

I remember seeing it on TBS or some similar channel a few months ago. Uncle Rico was one of the henchmen who ends up getting dance kicked by Swayze.

I miss the era when Hollywood could make those type of movies. An entire decade of senseless violence and gratuitous sex scenes featuring top actresses. Why did we flush it away, for Transformers 2?
