Adam "Pacman" Jones' agent: Liar, liar, pants on fire?

I was wandering around the Internet and came across a story on ESPN.com that has my spidey-sense tingling. The agent for Adam "Pacman" Jones, Ray Savage, is saying that the 49ers, Lions and Bengals, all have expressed great interest in his client. That would certainly make 49ers fans think a bit. But wait....

Earlier today, Trent Baalke, the 49ers new quasi-GM (without the official name) met with 49ers beat writers and addressed various issues. Apparently, when asked about Pacman, Baalke said:

At this point there is absolutely no interest in Pacman. And I don't see that changing.

So who's calling site decorum on who here? I understand the need for Savage to generate some interest in his client to try and increase a potential contract. Is that all that's going on? If so, it sounds to me like he has over-played his hand, given Baalke's comments. On the other hand, Baalke could be playing his own game to potentially get Pacman on the cheap.

Whatever, the case, this is one of the more ridiculously entertaining non-stories since the David Carr press conference open thread. Speaking of which, tomorrow at noon pacific, we're going to roll out what we hope will be a weekly random weekend open thread with a title folks will hopefully find amusing. We talk about the 49ers so much around here, I think it would be nice to have a thread for discussion of everything outside the 49ers world. And with the NCAA tournament heading into the Elite 8 tomorrow, the thread could even be used for a discussion of what should be some entertaining basketball tomorrow.
