What value ? Michael Robinson
Yes I know he's a special teams stud and that has value, and I know he is a popular player. That being said , his seems like a wasted roster spot to me ! I mean he doesn't run like a true RB ,and he sure isn.t a QB. He also isn't a wide out, or even a true fullback ! He can do a few things "adaquetly ", but seems to shine only on special teams.
So do you think the niners would be better served by designatinghim as a special teams player only ,and getting a real RB in his place ? I know discussions on the blogs center around a breakaway threat like Spiller , Best ,or McCluster, and rightly so. We are sorely lacking a dynamic RB, and game changer ,which should be addressed with one of our higher picks. But as I see it , we really need two RB's, one explosive , and another ," a power- back" , to get the tough yards ,and move the chains.
So the questions are:
#1 How high would you rate Robinsons value outside of special teams on a scale of 1 - 10 ?
#2 Would this be a good roster move ? Would you do it ?
#3 If so , who would you choose as a power back to replace him ?
If this has been discussed previously ," bear with me", Im still pretty new to the site !
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

1) I dunno, a 6? He should comfortably make the roster but is not irreplaceable
2) Robinson has little influence on this team’s runningback situation.
Designating him as a “ST guy” doesn’t mean anything.
3) The OL moves the chains. If a power back falls in their laps, great. There are more pressing needs.
Robinson is valuable because you can only keep 45 guys active. In addition to his ST coverage work, on gamedays he can serve as the emergency 3rd RB, backup fullback, and kick returner.
You can get other guys in there that can block on special teams just as well.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
I don't know about that
Michael Robinson could easily be the best special teams blocker/tackler in the NFL.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Robinson
He’s like that guy in fantasy baseball who can play catcher, 1B and 3B. He’s not only “adequate” in special teams he’s great. He was so good he beat out Kory Sheets last year, and HE WAS OUR FUTURE!

How About
They Trade Him For Antonio Cromartie And A 6th Or 7th Round? If They Were Going To Trade Him To Detroit For Maurice Morris, Michael Robinson Would Be A Shoe-In…Then We Could Focus On CJ Spiller And An OT…
Lets see
He can play QB RB FB WR KR ST-specialist…
He’s simply a great football player and has made plays all over the field on offense and ST.
I think Raye was working him into the offense last year when he came back after injury. We may see more of him this year – if Raye can call more than 5 plays.
Robinson is pretty crappy on offense, but he’s very good on ST.
He has some value in that he can be a backup at a lot of positions, which can free up roster spots elsewhere (especially useful for game day active spots). The down side of that is that he’s a pretty marginal backup and really an emergency-only option.

Why do people continue to say the 49ers do not have an explosive RB?
Gore may not have the 4.37 speed that Spiller & Best have but he is still very much a explosive back. In 8 of the 14 games that Gore played he had at least 1 play go for more than 30 yards on the ground or in the recieving game. People are obsessed with break away speed but forget that you have to be patient and set up your blocks to take the ball to the house. Gore is a really good back that is only 26 years old. I like Spiller & Best but I would prefer a explosive reciever where the 49ers are lacking. Golden Tate is fast and can return punts & kicks so why not look at him? Crabs big physical with great hands/ then add a speed burner like Tate 4.4 at the combine/ add V Davis and that is explosive!

Think he could play Strong Safety ???
He has the bulk , and we know he can tackle, by his ST play. Only question is can he cover, a TE or RB on a pattern ? It was said he was one of the best athletes to come out of that draft. We sure need SS help. What do you folks think ?
