100 in 100: Aaron Hernandez (53 of 100)

Hernandez is a Tight End who played for the Florida Gators this past season and was one of Quarterback Tim Tebow's favorite targets. Henandez was one of the Juniors that decided to leave school early for the NFL Draft. While at Florida, Hernandez racked up several yards in receiving as well as touchdowns. He started as a freshman in '07, and then 11 out of 13 in his sophomore year in '08, and finished in '09 earning the highest award for a tight end with the John Mackey Award. While he isn't your prototypical tight end, he provides the quarterback with an very solid receiving target. When he gets to the NFL, he will more than likely be used similar to that of a Dallas Clark for the Colts or Dustin Keller for the Jets. The strongest aspect of his game certainly was not his blocking.

Below, we'll look at his highlights and accomplishments. At the bottom of the page I will provide a projection of where we might see Hernandez drafted in April.

Star-divide

Hernandez has exceptional hands and this video certainly highlights that. To add to his exceptional hands, he has great awareness and concentration. He is fast for a bigger guy and runs his routes relatively accurate. He is definitely a player that can make an immediate impact at the next level.

SUMMARY AND PROJECTION:

I think that Hernandez's best fit is going to be with a team who likes to pass the ball and spread the field. Whether or not he ends up with a team that likes to do that is another story. He could be worked with on some of his blocking to make him more of a versatile player but I think the team that drafts him, will plug him in instantly as a pass catching tight end. There is small chance that he could be drafted in the 1st. With that said, here is where I believe he will be selected.

Possibilities -- 1st Round: Picks 20-32, 2nd Round: 33-64. Possible 1st Round Teams: Ravens, Bengals, Saints.

Hernandez is one of those players I really like, just not for the Niners. I see him as kind of a rich man’s Delanie Walker, if that makes sense. Sort of a WR/TE hybrid who won’t do much great blocking but could really be a great weapon for a team that likes to throw the ball. If the Niners didn’t have such good depth at TE I’d really like us to take him, in fact.

Idolizing Robb Nen since 2002...
