100 in 100: Jacoby Ford (55 of 100)
Clemson University has produced several top athletes in recent years in many of the schools atletic programs. Jacoby Ford is no exception. He has managed to make marks both in track and field as well as football. Ford broke several of the schools track and field records and was arguable the University's top sprinters. That is not where the buck stopped with Ford though. He was also on of the University's top wide receivers on the football team.
Most recently, Ford had a very good outing at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine held just last week. He had the fastest official 40-time (as expected), and did well at other events proving that he could potentiall be a threat at the next level. Showing his agility, Ford also was a top performer in the 60-yard shuttle.
In 2006, Ford played in 12 of 13 games and managed to rack up 15 receptions for 187 Yards (averaging roughly 12 1/2 yards a catch). It wasn't exactly huge numbers but Ford definitely helped stretch the field his first year playing for the football team there and things would only get better from there. In 2007, Ford improved his nembers slightly but he had more attention for his accomplishments in track and field where he opened the curtains to let the spotlight shine on him. 2008 and 2009 were the years that Ford would really come in to his own in football. In those two years Ford would pull down 111 catches for 1489 yards capped off with 10 toiuchdowns. Ford also has close to 500 career rushing yards on reverses and things like that. The Clemson wide receiver also has piled up several yards in doing punt and kick returns as well.
Below, we'll take a look at Ford's highlights, stats and I'll provide a projection at the bottom of the post.
In this video you will see Ford being used similar to that of a Desean Jackson type of player. He is going to be able to hurt teams in his ability on offense and special teams. He has very good hands and it goes without saying super human speed. I think it wil be very interesting to see how well his game translates in to the NFL.
AWARDS AND HONORS:
- Most of Ford's accomplishments have been in Track & Field.

SUMMARY AND PROJECTION:
With a 40-time like Ford had in the Combine, there's always a chance that Al Davis could take him with the 8th overall pick. But if things stay in the realm of reality, Ford should see himself being selected in the 3rd Round or so. There is a chance that he could go a little before that round and possibly a little after... it just depends on what the trends are this year. It seems as though every draft there is a specific position that is more popular. Ford is 5'9" 186 LBS.
Possibilities -- High Pick: 2nd Round: Picks 55-64, Low Pick: 96-110, Best Pick: 3rd Round: 65-95.

Having seen him play a lot, he’s fast, but he’s undersized and not very polished. He could maybe make an immediate impact on ST but I don’t think he’s polished enough to be an NFL WR yet.
That’s what a lot of people said about Desean Jackson too
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
people that didn't watch him play
The only concerns with him were size and attitude.

al davis takes him #8
book it
but i would really like to see us give our #17 overall to the ravens for gaither or our 2nd rounder but bushrod
DREAM DRAFT:
1a. Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
1b. CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson
2. Best CB available
3. Freddie Barnes, WR, Bowling Green

i just remember us skipping desean in 2008
and look what happened now
i say we trade the 2nd for bushrod, then trade the #17 down to the end of the 1st/beginning of 2nd and draft jacoby… then we can get the desean-like player to stretch the field
DREAM DRAFT:
1a. Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

Get this guy a Niner uniform, you can coach route running and you can coach reading zones, YOU CANNOT coach speed and it is a need on this team.
Still thinking we should trade up for Berry!!
Jason Hill is fast. Vernon is fast
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
I am saying we have speed, so we may not. Hill is good when he is inserted in to games and we already know Vernon is. So is EXTREMELY necessary to draft Ford? I’d say no.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
I didn't say Ford was a Need on this team, I did say that speed is. Davis is fastest player in pads on offense.
Davis plays TE so he typically will stretch the middle of the field, I think we need a speed guy that can get behind the defense, I don’t think Hill is that guy.
Still thinking we should trade up for Berry!!
It is extemely neccessary to draft a returnman, why not take a high speed guy with experience, I'd be aiming at Ford, let me say that.
Still thinking we should trade up for Berry!!
Speed kills just ask CJ2k

I’m not saying dont get him… I’d be happy as all get up… I was just stating that we do already have speed on the team

Can I come coach for you next season since the Dolphins will probably cut me lose after this year?

Most certainly, Mike. i will have a coach vacancy every year for the remiander of my time on earth.
If Goldson wants to be paid more than Rolle, offer him up in the deal for E Berry please.
Good, thanks Al. Job security for years to come… you’re like a cockroach, you’ll never die.

Listening to you two is priceless.
I keep wanting to put in my input but I would have to change sides in every argument.
Jason Hill can't even get on the field and Ford has kr/pr ability!!
Still thinking we should trade up for Berry!!
Trade for Bushrod!!!!

because if we get bushrod
then we don’t need to spend that #17 on an OT and can instead trade it down to end of 1st/beginning of 2nd and get hella more picks

I have an enormous man-crush on Jacoby Ford
Recent statistical analysis on this site indicates that we need a #3 receiver and a punt returner. I think Ford is our guy. He gives our offense an element we don’t have right now. He had a great senior bowl week. His combine was great. If he’s available in the third, I definitely want him.
Had to think hard about this
But think I have to agree. This team has no deep threat right now. We could have had one in J Hill, but I think that ship would have already sailed if it was meant to. It’s scary to think what kind of weapons we’d have with a COP back like Spiller & a speed burner with pass catching & running ability like Ford.

I like Carlton Mitchell a bit more than Ford
Mitchell/Steph Williams are my favorite 5th round-ish sleeper WRs. They both have speed, height, decent hands, and seem like potential deep threats in the pros
Here's hoping 2010 is the end of our drought.
Ford hands?
I know Drew you think he has good hands, but I have heard multiple times he has inconsistent hands.
Ball Skills 3 Can snatch the ball out of the air but is inconsistent in this area and traps the ball against his pads at times. Flashes the ability to catch the ball in stride.
3 is considered average hands.
