who would you rather have Derek Anderson or David Carr? (Now with a Nifty Poll)
The Cleveland Browns just released QB Derek Anderson, Who would you rather have as your back up QB Derek Anderson or David Carr. Can you really honestly say that any signing is A slam dunk , isn't the gamble just as high , As drafting A college athlete into the NFL. Some players play worst on A different team, and all fairness to the 49ers the quality of A NFL QB is limited. Whether it's A back up QB or starting QB. The talent for the NFL isn't there
[EDIT] howtheyscored's note: I added the poll because it's an interesting question. You'll see I added a few relevant options. Just because I left this thread standing, though, let's not go crazy with the Carr threads. We do have an official FanPost for general discussion on David Carr.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Personally
Neither but if i had 2 choose it would be carr and if i coud get him 2 take off those damm gloves ( my pet peeve ) off .Derek anderson we can go all the way back 2 his oregon state days and he’s always been hot/cold and lately more cold than hot.
I'm adding a poll to this thread.
I decided to add a poll to this thread instead of just copying it over to our official Carr thread. For most of these FanPosts, I will just move them, but this one seemed like it could fit a lively poll. And the only way to do a poll is with a new thread.
I don't know about that, to the groin.
Anderson's been to a Pro Bowl while Carr hasn't...
but if you don’t believe in Alex Smith then the choice is Kevin Kolb in Philadelphia.
We’re moving to a spread? Kolb comes from the University of Houston. Young, but he’s got the upside and arm to thrive with guys like Crabtree and VD.
And his claim to fame is torching the Chiefs crappy secondary

Smith hasn't torched a crappy defense at all.
Equation= 1,2,2,3,3 is a lot better than 1,1,2,3 in a deep draft, especially when your 1 nets you E berry.

He also torched the defense of the World Champion Saints
Threw for more yards and TDs than Peyton Manning did against them. Sure, he also threw 3 INTs, but he’s a young QB and that comes with the territory.
Kolb has an arm and that’s been shown through his brief time in NFL games and college. Alex Smith is our QB, but if there were no faith in him…that’d be the guy I’d want.
LOL
Did you watch that game?
He was not very good in the 1st half and was a big reason why the Eagles got behind early (I remember one particular INT that really killed the Eagles chances of keeping up—it led to a Saints TD).
After the Saints were up big, Kolb just padded his stats (he threw like 50 times right?).
Saying Kolb torched the Saints D is like saying Alex Smith torched the Texans.
BTW: Just because the Saints won the SB doesn’t mean their defense is great.

I’d consider around 200 yards and 3 TD’s in one half aginst the Texans to be a torching.

When you're down by 21?
That last TD drive that put them within 3 was great but even Alex admitted that the defense was playing soft.

I don’t know about that criteria….
I could have found a more recent one, but I was too lazy.

+1
Just because a guy’s been to the pro bowl once, doesn’t mean they’re automatically better than a player that hasn’t. Anderson was horrible last year. The Browns desperately need a QB and they had no problem cutting Anderson. To me it’s a no brainer choosing Carr over Anderson.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.
True
But Carrs best year he had what 14 TDs?
Not saying either of them are good but Anderson’s younger and has actually shown signs of being decent.
I miss Joe Montana/Steve Young/Jeff Garcia

If I had to chose one, I chose Carr. He has better tangibles...probably intangibles too
Crowded elevators smell different to midgets.
Sign Anderson !
If it wasn’t for a disfuntional team, Coach and Mgt. thruout his Career, Maybe Anderson coulda been a contender. Last year was a train wreck for him. He would be better off somewhere base on his past experience..
Why not sign him and have him compete against Carr for the #2 position ? Makes sense to do that !

And absolutely no reason to want to leave Washington. He’s going to do better under Shanahan than he could do by signing with anybody else, and that’s going to make his price tag significantly higher for the next contract.
I don't know about that, to the groin.

Are you guys watching the same NFL?
The answer is easy….it’s Derek Anderson by a nautical mile! Carr had Johnson to bail him out of situations plenty of times. Poor Derek on the other hand was fed to the wolves with nothing but his wits and a loincloth! When Derek started last year, exactly who did he have to throw too? Josh Cribs? fast, but diminuative. Braylon Edwards? A primadonna AND an alligator armed, drop machine. Or maybe you wanna remeber that clown who skipped town Kellen Winslow? A blowhard, injury prone sucka@@ tightend. Picking up Anderson is a vast improvement over Carr anyday, and TWICE on Sunday.
P.S.: For all of you NN fans who so LOVE “Golden Boy” Alex, has it ever occured to you that signing EITHER of them means that no matter what Samurai Mike says, the Niners REALLY aren’t sold on him as their future?

Are you the guy that said "Smith doesn't inspire the O-Line?"

No....
Not that guy, but, if an NFL line needs to be “inspired” by their QB…..all of them need to be playing in the UFL.
