49ers host free agent OLB Travis LaBoy
Back in February reports surfaced that OLB Travis LaBoy visited the 49ers. While nothing much happened after that, the 49ers announced today that LaBoy will be at their Santa Clara practice facility today, and will appear in the media trailer at 11:30. No word on whether we'll have an epic press conference for it!
We've had discussions about adding a pass rusher in the draft, but LaBoy, if healthy, could be a decent option. Of course he's missed a lot of time due to injury, so it's a role of the dice (albeit, probably pretty cheap).

The team could use an extra OLB
but I’d rather see it addressed with Brandon Sharpe in round 5 or 6. He’d have to make the cliche transition from college DE to pro 3-4 OLB, but he racked up a huge amount of sacks in the Big 12.

Wonder what's up with him
He had some amazing numbers in his senior year. But he’s projected to go on some boards in the 7th or even a UDFA. Wonder why. The highlights I’ve seen of him show that he’s played at least a little bit in a 3-4, so maybe it wouldn’t be a huge transition. But yeah if those numbers look like they would translate well to the next level I’d be happy with him.
I don't know of him, I bet he is at a small school or a school without a lot of hype around it's program.
Let me see that Belly Roll........ - Major Payne
Not a small school
He went to Texas Tech. The only thing I can see about him is he only played one full year in the NCAA, but he did record 15 sacks in that one year. So impressive, but basically unproven. Kinda small to play DE at 6-3, 254. He will likely be converted to OLB as he has some experience with pass coverage.
another free agency nugget
Colon’s agent is gauging interest from 49ers
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
Colon
It’d be nice if they provided something more. They mention the 49ers and Packers in the headline but then nothing else. I’m assuming the agent said all this, but they never provide a quotation on it.

LaBoy was so much better in a rotation which is the main reason why the Cardinals got rid of him, they wanted a 3 down player.
Well since we play LBBC he should be a perfect match for us

LaBoy, O Boy ?
How many Back Ups do we Need ? Is he a practice player or is he going to replace someone ? Get Real !!!!!
He'll likely compete with Lawson and Haralson for playing time.
With Lawson set to be a FA next year, it makes sense to bring in a guy at the same position.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.
