Joe Montana remains a beast
After a pair of busy days here at the site, I think it's as good a time as any to relax a little bit. Friday was busy with the Ted Ginn Jr. trade, while yesterday was busy with our third and final live community mock draft. They were probably two of our busiest days of the offseason for traffic and comments, so I think we need to step and take a breath.
I received an email recently from a marketing group called Feed Company that has put together a couple of YouTube videos involving Joe Montana. The videos are sponsored by a footwear brand, but there's no actual branding in the videos. Either way, the videos are really quite entertaining.
After the jump, I've posted the second video...

Best ever
Joe has everything you want in a QB: great accuracy, footwork, decision-making, and a determination to win and be the best no matter what.
Alex should be out there with him trying to learn all he can from the man.
It's a good point ...
… has No 16 ever been asked to help any of our quarterbacks since he retired? Not the one immediately after he left – I think we all know why that didn’t happen – but subsequent ones? Now would be a fantastic time to bring Joe back to give Alex some help.

Bill Walsh made Joe Montana
Montana would not have had the success he had if he was in any other system with any other coach.
Think Tom Brady with Bill Belichick for a comparison

and vice-versa
Bill Walsh and his system were a perfect fit for Joe Montana and his skill set, and Joe was the perfect QB for Walsh’s offense… they made each other.
I wonder how many draft “busts” have occurred, not because the player lacked the essentials to be a good NFL player, but because that player was drafted into a system that just did NOT match that player’s skill set, and the player was never able to get into “the” system tailor-made for them (for example, how often do we talk about a d-end being perfect for the 3-4, but not suitable for a 4-3? Or Taylor Mays may be better suited, in my opinion, to be a 3-4 weakside OLB, rather than a safety)
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
Good point about the system
it’s one reason the Patriots find success. They don’t go looking for the guy with the best talent but the one who fits their scheme the best.
It wasn’t just Joe Montana though.
Walsh turned Ken Anderson into a great QB in Cincinatti. He also did the same thing for Dan Fouts who was not a very good QB when Walsh got to San Diego but turned into a great one during his time there.

My understanding is that Joe and the Niners FO are not the best of friends.
I read and article several years ago regarding the NFLPA and NFL, The article had a focus on the level of NFL support for retired players. The article contented that the many retired players who had debilitating injury’s and the NFL wasn’t don’t doing enough to help with medical costs. Joe was featured in the article and outlined his complaints against the NFL and the team about not getting sufficient help with his back, knee, and elbow injuries that ultimately forced his retirement. I am not sure if these issues have been resolved and or if Joe’s relationship with the organization has improved.
And I agree that Alex could benefit from spending some with Joe ( and Steve for that matter)

"They don’t go looking for the guy with the best talent but the one who fits their scheme the best."
BINGO!!!!!!
“It wasn’t just Joe Montana though.” Agree 100%. That’s why I said “they made each other”. Walsh was already highly regarded as a quarterback/offensive coach, that’s why he got the niner’s hc job in the first place. But without Joe, would Bill have become “the Genius”? Maybe…. but maybe not. Without Bill, would Joe have become “Joe”? Again, maybe… but maybe not.
Of course we’ll never know for sure… either way.

Very funny!
I miss Joe Montana/Steve Young/Jeff Garcia

If Smith can become
half as accurate as Joe this up coming season we would get a playoff birth and he could earn himself a contract extension.
Beat Em To The Punch - Bill Walsh
awesome
"All during film, I'm calling him Bam-Bam, like from 'The Flintstones,' because he hits everything. He is the truth" - Chad Ochocinco on Patrick Willis
Heard a funny quote on NFL Network by Joe.
It was about whether or not you need a QB with a rocket arm.
He said, “I don’t throw darts at balloons. I throw balloons at darts.” A lot of modesty there, but he made the point nicely.
